I tried to find a source for this and a bunch of articles have exploded onto google news today with the story. Most point to a report by Sporting News. I found the report by Sporting News, which cited their source as a report by the Los Angeles Daily News. The LA Daily News website has no related article but their USC blog writer had a one line entry that said:

We hear the Seahawks spoke to former USC quarterback Matt Leinart about joining the team next season.

LinkAnd that is how one little sentence without a source or any substance turns into over 45 online articles reporting that the Seahawks are interested in Matt Leinart.
