College football. I can’t believe the stupidity of these players.  I am unclear if this is

somthing he can be suspended for. Does anyone know?

also since I’m sure someone will ask , can they provide the link to his official twitter?  I don’t know how but this is clearly worth figuring out before my draft tomorrow

 
Would say a non story, but his younger brother was arrested for illegal gambling a year ago. So even if he gambled legally, tweeting would be poor judgement.

Yes agree. Good info , will research the brother case.  I actually tweeted to him poor judgment 

 
From what I understand, NFL players can bet at a casino and on horse racing, but not on other sports correct? 

Each year NFL players get a handbook outlying what is okay and not okay with relation to gambling for their conduct policy 

There is undoubtedly a violation of NFL conduct policy. There is no way this is a non story. and no way he gets away from this without any kind of punishment from the commissioners office

My thoughts precisely. I have the six pick and think Fournette competes for a top 3 finish but my limited understanding of the conduct code is exactly what you wrote.

May take Hunt instead now I don’t want to deal with a player facing suspension like Elliot last year on my team 

 
There's a very real possibility he was just kidding. He posted a picture of a bunch of $100 bills laid out to form a "U" and thanked the hurricanes. Maybe he won it gambling. Maybe he had a stack of cash and wanted to troll fans. 

Eta a picture of the "proof" he tweeted of his gambling. I think this is a nonstory unless more comes out.

What did Hornung and Karras go down for?  Was it betting on NFL games?

ETA - yep, NFL games.

In any case, the NFL is very explicit and lets players fully know what is and is not acceptable as far as gambling is concerned.  If betting on college games is off limits, you can bet he’ll be suspended.

He's a pro now. This is like Pete Rose betting on college baseball. Not the biggest no-no. 

 
A no time did he admit to winning that money by gambling.

Seems weak in terms that he did something wrong.  It take more then this stuff to get suspended.

my two cents for those who think his isn’t proof, your right, but an investigation will 

likely result in the proof , nfl has sophisticated investigators or he will just bite bullet and take a suspension.  What a fool to tweet this for about 2500 since he makes millions.

I disagree. It could be argued he's condoning gambling as his tweets imply that's how he got the money (though he never says he gambled nor does he show proof he gambled), but other than that the tweets themselves don't violate any of those rules. 

All he needs to do if the NFL asks is say he was trolling fans and they don't have much to go from.

The rule is clear cut.  I don’t see how you see otherwise.

That he won that cash by gambling is only inferred from the tweet I read.  That point appears arguable, but he’s certainly got some explaining to do.  Even if it didn’t have to do with betting, the tweet was not very bright given how easily it could be interpreted as such.

Are they betting?  If not, they are simply running a business ( actually investing in a business).  Do you think that anyone could get leverage over them so that they would do something to influence the outcomes of games as a result?

That's a pretty big arguable point though. The rule is pretty clear. What isn't clear is if he actually gambled. I agree it was dumb to even call attention to himself like this, but as it currently stands it's far from clear he violated any rules.

It can be argued he's condoning gambling even if he didn't actually gamble. That's against the rules. They might fine him under that section but I doubt the NFL wants to push that specific angle too much considering fantasy sports do the same thing and it's not uncommon to have NFL players play those. 

 
Definitely needs at least a game. 

This has nothing to do with facing Fournette week 1.  :oldunsure:

 
This could turn into a problem and a suspension, but there will need to be an investigation first. This is a worry for next year, I doubt anything is decided this season

It has nothing to do with influencing a game. The NFL for years rejected the brand alignment with the underworld of gambling and kept it all at a distance. But now that public perception has shifted and there is money to be made, they are embracing it and profiting. 

What I reject and take offense to is that when it comes to gambling the league's personal conduct policy lags so far its balance sheet.

Didn't Gronk run endorsement adds for either FanDuel or DraftKing a couple years ago?  Absent actual evidence Fournette gambled, I don't see how Fournette could get in trouble for condoning gambling if players could get paid to endorse those sites without repercussions.

Goodell has that covered too

Legally-operated fantasy sports games (i.e., contests in which participants assemble imaginary 

teams comprised of real players from professional sports and compete based on the statistical 
performance of the real players) are generally not considered to be gambling or a gambling-related 
activity for purposes of this Policy, but the participation by NFL Personnel in fantasy football
games is subject to certain limitations as set forth below.
NFL Personnel may not (i) accept prizes with a value in excess of Two Hundred Fifty Dollars 
($250) in any season-long fantasy football game, (ii) participate in any “daily” or other similar short duration fantasy football game that offers any prize (regardless of value), or (iii) participate in 
any fantasy football game (including daily, season-long, or any other game format) in a jurisdiction 
where such participation is prohibited by applicable law or regulation. Policy restrictions are 
intended to avoid any appearance of impropriety which may result from participation in fantasy 
football games by individuals perceived to have an unfair advantage due to their preferential access 
to information.

Those aren't considered gambling because they take skill to win. 

That's a dumb line that I don't think it's really true but it's arguably consistent. Which is why I think Fournette might end up getting fined here. But I don't think much more is going to come from this unless he left a trail of evidence so blatant he's just unbelievably stupid. And I don't think he is. But the fact he even tweeted this makes that a plausible scenario.

If it’s anything like Elliott’s multiple issues they investigated last year, they will take a long time investigating before coming to a decision on if something needs to be done. Unless it’s a really serious matter where there is a clear wrong doing, like with Ray Rice, the NFL moves slowly. Zeke took over a year, Aaron Jones took almost a year, Jameis Winston took over 2 years, Robby Anderson is still in limbo, it’s one thing if someone is getting suspended for something internal like PEDs or failed substance test, it’s another thing when they try to suspend a player for something that is more public. I think he plays all his games this year unless he comes out and admits what he did, which would be kind of stupid

He's pretty stupid (or flaky).  I remember last year when he sat a game for not waking up for team meetings, and then he tweeted this (note the laughing emojis).  #badoptics

I wasn't attempting to argue they're not different things. They definitely are under the laws the NFL made up. But I don't think the NFL would really want to make a huge deal out of suspending a big time NFL fantasy player for kind of promoting gambling by posting a vague tweet when they themselves profit from fantasy sports in a huge way. The fantasy community would riot and shred the NFL for their hypocrisy. The NFL knows that community is a cash cow. I don't see them angering the nerds unless it's something causing a level of outrage they can't ignore (like domestic violence cases do). They can easily ignore this with some trivial fine at most. 

 
i honestly think hes just playin...rubbing it in Miami's face and pumping up the LSU fans...no way he goes on twitter and does that knowing what everyone else seems to know...his teammates would kill him...its just a joke...a dumb joke ...but a joke just the same...mark my words

At this point in the season, probably only 1 in 12 "nerds" would get angered by a suspension, the other 11 are probably hoping for it, and hoping it occurs the week they are facing Fournette.

I'm not sure that particular document is relevant. It is applicable to Employees of the NFL and related companies as defined on page 1 which does not appear to include the teams.  I assume Fournette is employed by the Jacksonville Jaguars.  I would think any gambling restrictions for players would be in the CBA.

Correct.  Unfortunately, the current CBA allows Goodell equivalent powers to Thanos.

 
Somehow facing Fournette in two leagues this week. Come on Goodell. Bring down the hammer!!!
