LeSean McCoy - How does Vick affect him? (1 Viewer)

I think today's announcement that Vick is the starter for the foreseeable future is fantastic news for McCoy owners.

1) The way defenses have to scheme for Vick means using a spy and keeping linebackers in coverage for the West Coast quick slant offense and keeping Vick from taking off and heading to the corner. With Kolb, they could pin their ears back and clog up the middle. I think the field will be a lot more open for the style running game the Eagles liked to use with Westbrook.

2) Vick's not Tom Brady or Joe Montana or Peyton Manning. McCoy will be his second read in the flat a lot when they're holding the pocket and playing safeties over the top of Jackson and Maclin.

I think this may push McCoy to potential top 5 RB status in fantasy, especially PPR.

agreed :blackdot:

I think fantasy owners are overreacting due to Philadelphia playing the Lions, one of the worst defenses in the league. That was McCoy's 1st ever 100 yard rushing game...ever. Great job and all, but I'm not ready to put him in the top 5 in the league because he beat up on the Lions.

I honestly wish I could pry him from an owner in any of my 3 leagues.

I remember how good Warrick Dunn looked with Vick there. Atlanta was the best running team in the league for one reason, Vick, and it wasn't because of his legs only. His presence on the field alone makes defenses play differently, opening up lanes for the running attack.

I think McCoy will be a top 5 RB by seasons end IF Vick stays the starter. I think this week alone just made Pierre Thomas and McCoy studs.

Vick elevates the running game because defenses must commit a spy and that puts certain LBs and or Safeties out of position and you can catch them with delayed hand offs as well as fast hand offs thru both A gaps. Dunn was a good player but Vick might have extended his career a bit.

McCoy certainly is looking like a better option week after week. I like it.

I mostly agree with you. I think it upgrades McCoy a bit but not in the top 5.

I am thinking McCoy is a must start now. I am starting him this week with Arian Foster and benching my "Stud" #2 draft pick Steven Jackson..

The Falcons dominated as a running team for years but it was spoiled by the fact they had a full on RBBC back when most teams had single backs. These days that RBBC would be commonplace and those guys would get regular starts. Now, Vick only has a single back in the backfield that gets any carries. To me, that bodes very well for Shady...

I concur.

At first I was down on the change because I assumed Vick himself will be splitting carries with McCoy, you have sold me on it being a good thing though. Benching Bradshaw for him.

I agree....DWill say hello to my bench...Shady welcome to my starting lineup ....
I'm in the same boat as you are, and have come to virtually the same conclusion. From this point forward until I see a reason to do differently, McCoy and Best are now my #1 and #2 backs and D-Will and Moreno can fight it out for my flex spot every week.
