Lets Boycott the Draft (1 Viewer)

if the fans want to make a statement, here is the easiest way to do it.

dont watch or attend the draft.

this can be a powerful way to get the fans outrage out to the media.

why wait months to try and get fans to boycott a pre-season game.

lets do it now.

twitter & facebook it.

if we all change the channel for one night we can create a clear message.

Big football fan here, I dont understand where the outrage is coming from? Its a business, negotiations can be difficult. It hasn't affected me as a fan one bit yet. I will be watching the draft as usual.

I'm kinda bent at both sides. But not these kids. I hope the owners and vets don't wreck the spirit of the sport (TEAMWORK) for these kids. Gotta love being all amped up and stepping into this mess.

This reminds me of that part in Jerry Maguire where Tom Cruise tries to get the office to go with him and nobody goes except for Renae Zellweggar. Hopefully you will find your Renae.

I'll be watching for sure, my wife's cousin will be getting drafted and I can't wait to see where he goes and if he makes the first round or not!

I knew there were some, and probably more than elsewhere.. but the number of absolute suckers on this forum is astounding.

So many of you are hook, line, and sinker... head over heels... being played. Like the wives picking Team Vampire or Team Werewolf, only I think the wives know it isn't real... just fodder for gossip.

The NFL is in the business of entertainment. You have been duped.

I think the responses here will be the same responses that we will see during the season. The fans can be upset all that they want, but in the end the ratings will be strong because we want to see football

I'm not sure the message will really get through as clear as you seem to think. They fight is between those two parties and the issues don't magically disappear b/c fans are pissed off about it - they already know that fans are pissed (which is why we get spin from both sides).

I'm with the owners so I'll be tuned in and DVR'ing all the way.
Im with the players and Ill be tuned in all the way.Im not even bothered if the college players dont show up.
I may actually prefer that they don't show up. I want to watch them play football, not sound like a fool after being drafted.
This. Normally when a network starts interviewing a player, I switch to the other network.

Have you lost your mind? I'll be watching the draft as if nothing has changed....which come September, nothing will have changed. There will be no strike.

I'll be watching as well. It's fun getting excited about the teams and players. Then we get to speculate about how they will do.

Give up one of my favorite weekends of the year to make a statement that will not be heard.....nah I'll pass

Um, no.

This is the only real highlight sports wise for me after the NCAA tournament, and before September.

Not going to let the strike ruin it for me

Right. Besides, nothing will ever beat the Brady Quinn disaster. Watching his girlfriend inch further out of the building as another name got call. Priceless.

When you boycott the draft and the 1st game still takes place as scheduled in September, are you going to feel foolish?

Red Apples, I am with you. And I hope even though you don't seem to be getting alot of support in this thread, I can tell you that I have heard several sports guys say the same thing (I think Peter King was one of them).

I think what a lot of people aren't understanding here (or are just unwilling to miss any of the all mighty draft)is that this is CLEARLY the one biggest and best chance we have as fans to really get the attention of the NFL.

The NFL does not care in september how much the real fans that are following this every day go through and get upset about any of this. Because, in September, or whenever else they decide to play again, people are going to come running back...at least thats what they expect because of our behavior.

HOWEVER, if we all drew a line in the sand, at this early juncture, and REALLY got some momentum behind this and made a REAL impact (media started picking up on the story, etc) and then, by some magical way it actually happened and a significant number of people did NOT watch the draft and people were openly all over the news saying they were not watching: well that my friends would be the shot heard around the world.

IF the NFL actually saw with their own eyes that the fans were fed up with this enough in APRIL to actually say "get your heads out of your butts and get this done" it would frighten them to death. Right now they bank on us rolling over and slurping right back to them. But if they saw a real effort, they would fear losing followship and revenue enough to make them take notice.

The NFL does not want to lose our dollars. The players don't either.

Imagine what the news would report if the NFL had to realize that the fans demanded more and the ratings were pitiful and they weren't invulnerable. Just a year ago when they switched to this format, they did it to (surprise) generate more revenue/following. There were people a year ago saying that this could become like a national holiday; as big as the first round of the NCAA's...must See tv that became an annual event.

And here we stand with the chance to make it happen and people are scoffing at the idea. Saying things like "you'll be a fool if you di it because there isn't going to be any missed time". A year ago at this time EVERYONE said we would never get to THIS point. There was too much money at stake. This was too good to give a black eye. And now we have a decertified union and venom is spewing from the mouths of each side more and more and we are going to court. This MIGHT get ugly people. Don't pretend that you might not lose some season this year.

So why not do a small non-violent silent protest to show where you stand? What do you have to lose? One night of tv that might be meaningless fi there is no league to play in? What do you have to gain? The attention of the entire NFL as you support your fellow fans?

Red Apples, i am with you.

Silly question....but will there still be a draft even if the owners and players don't agree on something by then?

i love the draft. i set aside time every year to do a home project and have the TV on all day. mel kiper is part of Spring for me.

A fan boycott of the draft does nothing. If the fans really wanted to hit the NFL and the NFLPA where it counts, lets take our $9 billion and go home.
