Let's talk about Rashard Mendenhall (1 Viewer)

He is currently ranked as RB#08 in my .5ppr league, averaging just under 18 points per game. He is getting about 22 carries a game at a 4.62 ypc clip.

His receptions aren't great (only 5 through 4 games) but he has hit paydirt in every game but week 2 at Tennessee. He is apparently the team's goal line/short yardage back, which people were debating prior to the season starting. This all while he's had everyone but Joel from accounting behind center. He now is getting his pro-bowl QB back after a bye week and going against Cleveland at home to start things out.

Where does everyone see him moving into the fat of the season? What impact does Ben bring to his production? They'll most assuredly pass more, which may hurt his value. However, because of that, teams can no longer stack 8 in the box against him and he could theoretically produce more with his opportunities.

His production has been admittedly a far cry better than I thought it would be without a QB. I think he has a good chance of finishing as a top 3 RB by season's end.

Agree? Disagree? Could care less?

Discuss.

He's top 10 going forward, and that's all I'm willing to commit to. I'm not sure I trust Arians to run the rock since Ben is back.

Oh, and playing Clev isn't a slam dunk for Mendy this week... They have yet to give up a RB rushing TD, and they've faced Thomas Jones/Charles, Rice/McGahee & Turner/Snelling.

I vaguely remember reading reports of Tomlin demanding that the offense run the ball more after last year.

:lmao: Mendenhall is a big reason why the Steelers have been good even with Ben out. While it might be tempting to think "With Ben back, they'll throw more = less carries for Mendy" - I don't think so. With Ben back, they will throw more effectively, score more points, yielding longer drives and have bigger leads. All of that will also mean more success in the running game. Honestly though, I don't think Mendy's numbers will jump significantly. He'll likely still see about 20-25 touches/game, they just might be a little bit more effificent. I also think we'll see a few games where he's racked up 100+ and a score or two, where he is laughing it up on the sidelines, while backups clean up with a big lead.

For some reason I just have/had a negative connotation with him. Maybe it's the the way Ray Lewis ended his season after his ran his mouth a bit two years ago. And I did not have a high regard for Pitt's O-line coming into the season.

But he slowly moved up my draft board during the summer and I had him around RB10. If I was drafting now I would put him in the top teir of RBs going forward. After CJ2K and ADP I would put Mendenhall right in the mix with Gore, Foster, McCoy or whoever else you want to put up there. And I would not be surprised at all if he ends up as RB1.

He's done as well as he as with sub par QB play and being the focus of the defense. Big Ben's return will lead to more scoring opportunities, should open up the running lanes even more, and will should help his reception numbers as well. I expect Mendenhall to be a lock as a top 5 pick going into redrafts next year.

I'm a Mendy owner. I like to evaluate players matchups going forward. I do this by checking the "points allowed to RB's by team" stat. I just give them a plus or minus rank...plus being matchups against teams 1-16 (favorable) and minus being teams ranked 17-32 (tough matchups). Mendy has 6 favorable matchups (this is thru week 16) and 5 tougher matchups. Of the tough matchups 2 are against CIN who is ranked #17 (right on the borderline).

Thats pretty friggin good schedule going forward...not to mention he is an every down/goal line back. I think Ben is just gonna help him going forward by keeping DEF's honest. I see him finishing near the top 5 and I'll take that considering I got him in the second round.

Been getting offers for him...but I think he's a keeper unless I get a deal that blows me away.

I remember reading reports that people in positions above Tomlin were demanding that they run more. I thought this was from the top down.

Sorry, didn't mean to make it sound like it was; I was simply stating his next matchup. Looking at his remaining games, however, gives even more reason to think he should excell..Cleveland-Tough Matchup

Miami-bottom third against RB's

New Orleans-Fifth worst against RB's

Cincy-Tough Matchup

New England-Neutral matchup (middle third against the run)

Oakland-Worst team against RB's

Buffalo-Third worst against RB's

Baltimore-Tough matchup (though it should be pointed out, he had his best game so far against them, gaining 88 total yards and two scores)

Playoff weeks:

Cincy-Tough Matchup

Jets-Very Tough Matchup

Carolina-sixth worst against RB's

Check out the bolded games, he plays against the 1, 3, 5 and 6th worst rushing defenses. I will say though, that his playoff schedule is a bit brutal.

The guy is a workhorse, 5 games, 5 TDs, 27 carries Roethlisberger's first game back. Has only gone under 20 carries once and it was for 19. Very solid back, love to have him.
