Lets talk CJ Spiller- (1 Viewer)

Denver can get at the QB...even if it isn't a designed screen to Spiller, I can see a good number of dump offs or check downs.I see no reason why 12 - 14 carries and 5 or 6 catches would not provide some really nice value here. Gailey may want to limit his touches a bit, but he also wants to keep his job.
Which makes Spiller a decent play in PPR. Not sure that I like him that much in non PPR......can't see him getting over 80 total yards and maybe a TD. Can't see him getting over 15 points in nonPPR. More like 10 points is what I would expect.

Buffalo Bills Rushing Offense vs Denver Broncos Rushing Defense (Great Matchup)C.J. Spiller had a nice game (again) last week, with 12/91/1 rushing and 11 targets for 9/76/1 receiving to his credit - but the great game was not enough as the Bills' D allowed 30 points to Miami for another 'L' in the win-loss column. Over the last three weeks, Spiller has finally become the player the Bills thought they drafted two years ago - a big-play, dual-threat back (38/220/2 rushing, a 5.8 yards per carry average, with 22 targets for 15/105/1 receiving). There will be a major battle for the lead back position up in Buffalo once Fred Jackson is able to play again during 2012 (assuming he doesn't move on from Buffalo during the offseason). Tashard Choice is rounding into a nice change-of-pace option up in Buffalo with 5/15/0 rushing and three targets for 3/41/0 receiving to his credit last week. The Broncos' rush D is ranked 20th in the NFL averaging 125.4 yards allowed per game, with nine rushing TDs given up to date. New England pounded them for 36/141/3 on the ground last week; Chicago had 38/159/1 rushing at Denver two weeks ago. These guys are not playing good rush D entering the final two weeks of the season.Spiller is on fire, while the Broncos are fading fast in this phase of the game - advantage, Buffalo.
....okay, I'll start him

Here is a quote from his coach yesterday.Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey said Tuesday, Dec. 20, that he does not want to overwork RB C.J. Spiller. 'He really didn't play the whole first half, the whole two-thirds of the season. I don't want to put 25-30 carries on him right now,' Gailey said. 'At some point, he may get 25-30 carries, but if he's going to be involved in the passing game, he's going to touch it 15-20 times and that's what he needs to do.'This worries me because unless he breaks a long run or pass reception, his numbers will be down. I went with D. Thomas over him last week, which was a mistake. I might just go with Spiller this week.
You should be thrilled if your RB gets 17.5 touches/game. I also don't buy the idea that Spiller has a carry limit, coaches say that stuff all the time but where the rubber meets the road they go with the hot hand every single time. If Spiller is hot he will exceed 20 touches.

With Felix dinged...Spiller it is at RB2.

Flex and WR spot up in the air with Dem. Thomas, Harvin, Dez, Felix, Morris...

Ugh...that bye week really killed me losing Jennings and Murray.

spiller is a huge talent and probably needs about 10 touches a game to be a destroyer of opponents an crusher of fantsay tems that are against him if he gets loose on the outside you can count on him taking it to the house and probably running back to the other endzone and then back to the original endzone if that was possible because hes 21 point tds type good take it to the bank

Another nice performance. Not sure he is a true lead back but I have been impressed these last few weeks.

He's the real deal. Give him 12-15 carries a game and 3-5 receptions and he's a top 15 FF rb.

No need to waste a bunch of money signing a 31 yr old coming off a season ending injury to a big deal. If he'll stay for cheap ok, but spending a lot on him is a horrible decision.

Jackson still has another year left on his deal. He will be in Buffalo at least one more season and I bet he gets a one or two-year extension this off-season.

Yes, but I could see him holding out and trying to get one last payday, which buffalo will, and should pretty much laugh at.31 yr old rb's are very bad big investments. If he's ok playing under his current contract then of course he'll be back in buffalo, but I have a feeling that's not the case.

Nix told him they'd redo his deal in the off-season and Jackson was satisfied with that. Given Buffalo's track record with resigning their own veterans (Kyle Williams, Chris Kelsay, Terrence McGee, etc.), Jackson knows Buffalo will be his best offer. And even if they can't come to an agreement, Jackson will be in Buffalo for 2012. There is no logical reason that he'd be anywhere else. They wouldn't let him go for nothing, particularly because he's still their best player.

Any idea what the criteria is that will keep Spiller as WR eligible next season?

McCluster came in as WR/RB after playing WR in 2010... and Spiller became RB/WR.

For example I am contemplating keeping Spiller and Fred Jackson in my 3 player keeper league. If Spiller plays just a Darren Sproles role that makes for a nice RB2/WR2 combo with the threat one becomes a true RB1 at some point.

I'm not certain, but I imagine it is the position that he receives the bulk of his starts in. This year was aberration as they needed Spiller to fill in at WR due to injuries and Jackson handling the workload. Next season, the Bills will have their depth back at WR and Spiller will more likely be assuming a greater share of the carries in the backfield.

From Buddy Nix interview:

On his thoughts of the developments of RB C.J. Spiller:

Everybody’s been surprised, I guess, about C.J. except us. We always knew, I think, what we had. Everybody talks about ‘he’s learned to run, he’s learned how to run,’ and obviously all of them learn things. But with C.J., the opportunity is what he needed and he got it when Fred [Jackson] got hurt and he’s what we thought he’d be. I’ve been one of the few, I think, and I wish I’d wait a couple of years to say this so I can say ‘I told you so,’ but I was one of the few that thinks that C.J. can run inside and be a workhorse kind of back. I don’t think he’s a 25 or 30 play a game deal but I think he can run inside the tackles. He’s done that. He’s stronger than you think he is. He’s 200 pounds. He’s a tough guy. Of course obviously his biggest asset is his speed. When you look at Chris Johnson from Tennessee, Chris is 10 pounds lighter than C.J. and they’re built a lot alike. So it’s according to who you have. I hate to bring up guys from before you guys were born (laughs) but James Brooks was 180 pounds and he ran over a 225 pound linebacker. Some of them are wiry and that’s kind of the way C.J. is. He’s really strong up top and he’ll mature and just keep getting stronger. I think he can be everything we thought he’d be.

On Fred Jackson:

On if there has been dialogue with RB Fred Jackson since the season has ended:

Does anybody in here know how long Fred Jackson’s contract is? You do, John? He’s a Bill for 14 months, a year from March 13th. Now, Fred and I have talked. We want to extend Fred. I’d like for Fred to finish his career as a Bill. He’s meant a lot to us. I’ve got great respect for him. I tell him that. We’re going to try to get something done. Does it matter if we do it or if we do it next week or a month from now? As long as we get it done before the season starts it’s all the same, really, seems to me. And it’s not like he’s going to get hurt playing now. But we do want Fred back and we do intend to try to workout a deal with him. I’ve told him that and I’m going to tell him again this week before I leave here. And just to re-assure him that what we said is what we’re going to do.
