Let's Talk Defense/STs... (1 Viewer)

The most surprising units that have stumbled, FF points-wise, more than expected are:

CHI (how many more starters will get injured?)

BAL (Ray Ray, more like No Way)

DEN (Champ who?)

MIA (Long lost are the days of FF defensive dominance)

The units that have surprised me the most are:

TEN (without Pacman and despite a sporadic offense)

DET (maybe more defensive line coaches need to cruise naked through fast food joints)

NYG (after their horrid start, who would have thought?)

My list of the top 5 defenses/STs in a standard scoring league (i.e., 2 points for INTs & FFs, 1 points for sacks, points for keeping opponents score and yards to a minimum, etc.) are:

1. NE

2. PIT

3. DET

4. TEN

5. DAL

Whatcha got?

I think the NY Giants have to be in a top 5 at this point. They get lots of sacks and have been on a tear.

Chicago and Baltimore are definitely not rewarding people that wasted an early pick on them. Chicago just lost too many people to injury (or idiocy if you count Tank Johnson). Not 100% what Baltimore's deal is. Old age?

Add to the disappointment list:

Chargers got tore a new one @ Minnesota after they seemed to be on the upswing. They still have the chips to be a good unit down the road but the Colts game probably won't help.

I really thought the Bengals DST would be a sneaky pick but holy hell do they stink.

Defensive scoring varies wildly. Some leagues reward Return TD's, in which case Chicago has still been a premier team. For leagues that penalize for both points and yards, and don't award Special Teams points, they aren't even worth starting.

If you are looking for an underrated Def for fantasy purposes, might I suggest Oakland? And the Broncos have done so poorly, they might be a worthwhile WW pickup, in case they pick it up in the next couple of weeks. I like their matchups for weeks 12-15 (@ Chicago, @Oakland, vs. KC, vs. Houston).

Baltimore has not been that bad. Last week was bad for them, but they have been getting me double digit points every week. I agree on NYG and do not put Detroit in that list. Washington has been suprisingly good too (except for the NE game)

Why not DET? They seem to be getting the turnovers. MIN? I have them both and playing the M/Us might be the way to go but Minny's defense is a wee bit weak in the passing phase...

The rest of the way, I have NYG and GB and plan to use them:

Week 10: GB vs MIN

Week 11: GB vs CAR

Week 12: NYG vs MIN

Week 13: NYG@CHI

Week 14: GB vs OAK

Week 15: NYG vs WAS

Week 16: NYG@BUF (cold and BUF will be out of contention)

GB is not great, but they're solid and opportunistic enough against bad teams.

The tandem of GB and/or WAS can be used to supplement your D/ST for matchups:

Week 10: GB vs MIN

Week 11: GB vs CAR

Week 12: WAS @ TB

Week 13: WAS vs BUF

Week 14: WAS vs CHI

Week 14: GB vs OAK

Week 15: GB @ STL

Week 16: GB @ CHI

Week 16: WAS @ MIN

In all of my leagues, defenses get 6 points for return TDs and get penalized for giving up points and yards. Kind of a wash in CHI's situation.I like both MIN and GB in weeks 14-17. Having both would be a nice combo.

I like MIN the rest of the way.
I do too, despite the fact that the QB situation is scary. The way I see it, MIN will stick with their best offense plan (running the ball) which will eat the clock. If they can put together decent drives and not go 3 and out too often, that should keep the defense fresh.
