Holy ####!

I had heard late last week that there was reports that the NCAA had given PSU a choice: Immediate bowl reinstatement with scholarships next year, or immediate scholarships and another year of the bowl ban(essentially, the opposite). Everything that I read said that Franklin wanted the scholarships. Ultimately, it was not his decision, though.

Regardless, that's awesome.

I didn't understand the scholarships thing...It says that we will return to a full compliment of scholarships in 2015-2016...that's next year, no? What good would it have done us to get those back now, mid-season?

I'm not entirely sure. This was all rumor through "an unknown source within the NCAA". Which means none of it may be true. Maybe there never was a choice.

Quick!!!!!!

Ray Rice is getting all the attention, no will will notice us lifting our ban.
Until we not so silently win the Big 10...

One can hope, right?
Vegas isn't laughing at me now with my $10 bet that PSU would win the B1G this year.
This will be awesome.

If Rutgers can pull off the upset it would devastate the hopes of all Penn St.

RU baby!
After everything PSU has gone through this past couple years, you think a loss to Rutgers is going to be the thing that devastates us?

Seriously? If we win 6 games, enough to become bowl-eligible, we'll get picked up to play in a bowl. Our fan base is too big not to. Not to mention, even a loss in the Beef O' Brady's Bowl is more than we would've expected. A loss to RU isn't going to really dampen our spirits much. I don't think people who aren't PSU alum can really understand how tough the last few years have been.

Exactly. No PSU fan thinks now that the ban is lifted we're competing for the national title. 6 wins and a bowl this year is a miracle season.

I don't know how many are on scholarship right now, but 85 will be next year. So PSU will likely have the #1 recruiting class in the country with 40 recruits.

You guys know a lot more than I do.

I was just going on the possibility of being 3-0, maybe ranked just outside the top 25 and a gift of being bowl eligible in a year where the BIG10 is chitting the bed early.

Don't get us wrong...we all want to beat Rutgers. 3-0 is a lot better than 2-1. It'll be fun for some of us PSU folks living in Rutgers territory too, like msyelf. I think our street is having a viewing party, so it should be fun.

Awesome.

This is Rutgers Bowl for 2014

Never was into CFB all that much, here and there last 10-15 years but really fun to be in BIG10.

Gotta get out to a game this year.

 I'm thrilled you guys are in the Big10. Mainly because we'll get a PSU game 40 minutes from where I live every other year now, but also because I think the program is a good fit...or will grow into a good fit. I would totally be at the game this year were it not for the newborn (PSU class of 2036).

If you look at what's left, Rutgers, UMass, NW, MD, Indiana, Temple, and Illinois are very winnable games. If they lose to Mich/duhOSU/Sparty, that's 9-3 and good for a New Years Day bowl (like the Gator Bowl).

And to be honest, Michigain and OSU haven't exactly been setting the world on fire thus far. I think especially OSU will get better as the season progresses and they adapt w/o Miller, but still...

I think it would be riotously funny to make the B1GCC, even if we got our doors blown off...just to annoy the sanctimonious SOBs who wanted the program dead and buried.

Hey Shiek: Did you get those UMass tickets yet? That's the first home game after the sanctions are lifted. I bet the prices will skyrocket now, GB.

James Franklin brought the 49 players who stayed and are still around up in front of the rest of the team today. The rest of the players and the coaching staff gave them a standing ovation.

I just thought that was a pretty simple and pretty cool move.

Do you happen to know where I can read a list of those guy's names? I know they must've been mostly Freshmen at that point in time...I don't know that I've seen a list recently.

Sorry, I dont. The story I read was just a quick blurb to mention the sentiment, not even worth linking to, really. Here it is, though:

I must apologize. I didn't realize you were a Rutgers fan and just ribbing us over the upcoming game. I thought you were just trying to take shots at PSU. Now that I understand, your posts make a lot more sense. That's my bad. :bag:

Yeah, it's sort of BS, but the emotion from that memory could cause PSU to lose tomorrow night. As I remember at the time, McQuery audibled out of the run to that play. He saw it was wide open and changed the play. Paterno or Fran Garner didn't call that play. Why would they? You can see on the video that Paterno isn't excited and looks down at the ground right after it happens. He knew it would be a point of contention and yet he knew he couldn't yell at his QB for audibling into a wide open TD. Especially since it was a young QB who would be the starter for several years.

I think his failure (in this instance, before the Sandusky incident) is that he thought Graber would KNOW that neither he nor Garner would ever call that and that it was the QB making the right read. So then he got pissed when Graber got mad at him.

Been reading Jay Paterno's book. Quite the page turner; he's going to be nearby on 9/22 and I may go see him.
Whatever you think of JayPa, and for most people it's not good, he's really a hell of a writer. Excellent column in the local paper for years.

 I saw it somewhere and decided to repost it in here, as I found it interesting that it was the last matchup. I don't think those directly involved with the game will/are thinking twice about it (or even know about it). It'll have no affect on the outcome.

Oh, don't take me the wrong way. I just think that's how the Rutgers fans have passed it down to their grandchildren. :)
