Lets talk Razors (1 Viewer)

I recently shaved my beard and was given a Dorco 6 Plus and I am not 100% sold on them. The price per cartridge with the numerous deals that show up on Slickdeals seem to make them an attractive choice. Any better options out there? Oh and I have zero interest in going the hipster way and using a straight razor.

Tried the 6 as well as the 3 and actually liked the 3 better. The 6 kept getting clogged .Still to me nothing beats the yellow Gillette fusion blades , hate the cost.

And to top it off every few years I end up buying the latest and greatest electric even though it always ends with me not liking electrics.

I'm with you.  Though I got the 4 blade.  Yeah, gets clogged up and seems like it dulls within a couple shaves.

Was thinking of going the 2 blade and only using them a 2-3 times.

Aren't these supposed to be the same as the Dollar Shave Club?

Done the dollar shave club bit, and the blades were awful.  Was a Fusion guy before and went right back.  Absolutely the best shave of any blade I've ever had.  Hate he cost, but I'd rather sacrifice that for a quality/comfortable shave than to pinch pennies and have a low quality/uncomfortable shave.

So how many quality shaves do you get from each cartridge?

I use a double edge safety razor. It took a few sample packs to find the right blades for me. Now I buy 100-200 blades at a time and change them pretty often.

I did the double-edged safety razor thing for 10-15 years, on and off, occasionally trying the latest cartridge from Gillette or (more recently) Dorco before going back.

A few months ago, I tried the Dorco Pace 7, and I've stuck with it. It's the best razor I've ever used. There's a surprisingly large difference between the six-blade system and the seven-blade system. The seven-blade cartridge gives a much easier, smoother, closer shave, and the blades last a lot longer as well.

Try the 7. You can use the same handle as the 6 Plus, just get the cartridges for the 7. See if you get the same results I did.

While you're at it, try Cremo. It's very cheap and is the best shaving cream I've used.

Isn't the cartridge a little big to get around small places - up close to nose, etc.?  I have a #### ton of these 4 blades to get through ...may have the wife try them.  I see the 7 blade aren't super cheap either.  I am sick of lame shaves though.

The 7 is smaller than the 6, oddly enough. The 6 Plus comes with a trimmer on the back of the cartridge for hard-to-reach places. The 7 doesn't need it because those places aren't so hard to reach with it. (Which is evidence that the significant difference between the 6 and 7 isn't the number of blades, but the different design.)

This is what I have done. I made the switch 7-8 years ago maybe. I'm still using the same Merkur razor that I bought for around $30. I spend about $15 on blades for the year.

Shick Hydro is the way to go at CVS.

Every couple weeks I get a 30% off e-mail coupon then pair it up with their 3 bucks off 12.00 of  Shick products at the coupon machine.

This is the best shave

Been thinking about this as well.  How tough is it to change over to one of these?  I am pretty careless with my razor and think I would end up slicing the hell out of myself.

I currently have a Shick Hydro, Fusion M5, Harry's, and a double edge with feather blades.  I still love my fusion.....

I wanted to like the hydro but hated the lubricating strip they used

Recently switched to Harry's. It's fine and I'll probably stick with it because I have a habit of forgetting to buy blades.

Agree with those saying that fusion is the best.

I agree. I really like the Hydro 5 blades. I found the Hydro 5 disposable razors are a better way to go than the handle and replacement blades. The blades are the same and it is cheaper to throw out the whole razor than just the blades after they are done.

I've only full on shaved once or twice since my military days.  Never go shorter than George Michael.
I didnt shave over the Christmas weekend and the wife asked me to keep the Wham look. I fully expect that she is yanking my chain and trying to get me to walk around looking like a #####.

$41.80 for 16 carts??? I did order some Cremo.

I switched about two years ago. I watched a video on YouTube on how to do it. I was very careful at first so it took longer than normal. Now I can shave as fast as before. In those two years I've cut myself 2 times. One of those times was because the head was not tight and it rotated on the down stroke.

By far the best shave I've had. Buy a sample pack of blades to find out which one you like best as there is a huge difference between blades.

Love the shave and the savings.  Give it a shot you won't be dissapointed.

very easy.   they're way sharper than your standard cartridge, you don't need to push hard against your skin,  just glide it over one pass and move on.   You can go back for a 2nd pass later but you don't want to sit there and shave the same spot 5 times up and down, your face will get irritated.

Yeah I tried switching from the Fusion to Dorco and they're crap. Fusion is worth the price imo.
my thoughts exactly. my wife signed me up for DSC last year. while i got used to the Dorco after a month, the fusion is significantly better for me.

Yep.  And I've settled on the feather blades

Have been using Harry's for the past couple of months and like them.

Thanks!  BTW - what is your favorite blade?

Astra is a good middling blade. For a newbie, you could start there and do worse. I made the mistake of getting a super sharp one at first and it wasn't a good start. I use Personna Blues now and are pretty happy. But you can buy a sampler pack with a few styles to audition.I use a blade for maybe 3-4 days before replacing so 100 blades last me a year for less than $20. I recommend also getting ProRaso creme and a decent badger brush. Again, for a novice, you can get a Tweezerman brush from Amazon without spending much and do just fine.

Where do you find these?  My second favorite after Feather

Yep.  And I've settled on the feather blades
Started double edge shaving about 6 years ago and started on feather blades. Tried others but nothing else compares. They are one of the sharpest and most aggressive.  If you use the right products for beard prep/shaving soap, you will get an excellent shave. Not for those looking for a 60 second shave.

one thing i dislike about the DE experience is what happens when i take a break from it. DE is great for everyday shaving but skip more than a day? it's a savage experience shaving again. i didn't shave over the past 4-5 days and took a razor to it this morning. i had more nicks this morning than i might have in a month otherwise.

I have used the Hydro 5 but the 3 seems to work just fine and is cheaper.  Yesterday I had a 30% off at CVS, then the coupon machine spits out 5 dollars off any purchase of 18 or more of Shick products. Whenever I get these I buy if I need them or not.
