Which one of these best describes you ?

A) I target players who I think will have huge years even if it means reaching a little ?

B) BPA no matter what ?

C) I only pick players lower than their current value.

Lat year I decided early who I wanted because I felt they were going to have big years. I was picking 8th and had an idea where these guys were going ( 12 team PPR, redraft ) . I targeted AJ in rd 1, Wayne in rd 2, Welker in rd 3, Owens in 7 and Schaub in rd 9 or 10. I filled in the others with need and value. What are your thoughts on this strategy ?

Make this a poll, but I don't see much of a difference between A and B if you value players who could have huge years ahead of others. I don't mind reaching a little for "my guy", but I always rank "my guy" ahead of others anyway so it's still BPA.

Sorry, I meant BPA according to mock rankings.

Gotcha. Just my  but only complete idiots go purely on mock rankings. Nobody here is an idiot, so (B) won't get many votes.

I like to use a combination. Early I'll draft by looking at the best available and then maybe move down a bit if its a guy that my gut says is going to have a great year, but primarily best available. Then as I have my starters and a few backups, I will go on gut picks.

Draft in Tiers. Rogers, Brees, Manning, Brady, Schuab, Romo. Romo is my target and I will keep track of the players before me at the turn. If Brady, Schaub and Romo are available and 3 teams are ahead of me before the turn and one has QB already I'm waiting until after the turn and addressing a better RB/WR. i do the same for TE usually the next time around. No team will spend two picks on stud TEs or QBs.

I draft based on who is the least likely to bust or get hurt... so I sort of fit into C where I reach a little. I avoid the speculative players and players who only have one good year under their belt. If you can end the season with 4 or 5 of your top 6 picks still producing while others only have 3 of them left, you're at a huge advantage even you didn't get the best possible players.

To prepare, I rank and tier players at each position (using various sources plus my own judgment) and use VBD to get an idea of the relative value of players at different positions. When I pick I look a round or two ahead and guess who will still be available then, and I usually don't pick a guy if he (or someone at the same position who I like almost as much) will probably still be available for my next pick (unless it makes sense to take two guys in a row from the same position, or if I see a huge dropoff in value and don't want to risk losing my guy).
