Lets talk Vince Young's value. (1 Viewer)

I am wanting to know what everyone's take is on Vince Young. For someone who is supposed to be mobile he sure didnt look it last week.

In my 12 team keeper league passing tds only equal 4 pts while rushing equal 6 thus the Vick, McNabb, and Young? are more valuable.

Vince does not really look fast and I said it before that I feel he dominated in college against some less than stellar defenders.

Is the NFL speed too fast for Vince and his legs?

i know its an extremely small sample size but Young didnt look very elusive last week against the Cowboys. Again, very small sample but last week he was running into defenders everywhere he went, and didn't seem to have Vick like quickness in avoiding potential tacklers. I dont know if he will eventually pick his spots and know when to run, but I didn't see it last week with him at all

Exactly. In college he faced slower, smaller defenders. These lb linemen are fast in the NFl and he is going to have trouble running I think.

Unless you have some UT alumni in your league Vince has almost zero value right now.

He was clearly tentative running the ball against Dallas. Once he gets comfortable, he'll be more aggressive with it. He's never going to be Vick fast, but he is plenty fast and elusive enough to add value on the ground. Once he learns to turn it up and use his strength instead of running sideways and losing yards, his numbers will improve. He had some success running in the preseason. He had some success scrambling around against Dallas, it was the designed runs that looked weak and took too long to develop. They'll improve on that. I would expect him, over a season, to average 4-7 points per game on his rushing stats which definitely helps his value.

4.58 at UT pro day, but I'd bet he could hit 4.5 judging from what I've seen on the field. Pretty good lateral movement and juking ability for a guy his size.

If you're going to draft VY in a keeper league, then give up on him after 1-2 starts, you really should probably find a new hobby. Seriously, you knew the guy was a project, you can't jump ship after 1 bad rookie start against a good defense.

Something I've learned to help me evaluate players fantasy values is to trust what I see with my eyes. I was at the Rose Bowl two years ago TX vs. Michigan.

Young killed in that game. I remember twol plays toward the end where he turned the corner, I'd never seen anybody move that fast. So not sure what his 40 time was blah blah blah, but the guy has football speed, that should not be questioned.

I think he will be a much better FF QB than real-life NFL QB, and will prob. put up stats to warrant being a QB2 the second-half of the season.

Um, those corners are much more tighter in the NFL than college. Period. Much less who is or isn't around that corner shoudl you turn it.

Thanks, I understand that concept. What I'm saying is I've never seen an NFL or college player turn a corner and accelerate the way I saw VY. He just hit the corner and took off in a flash. There is a reason he went #3 in the draft, and its not because of his throwing mechanics.Just saying, you can critique VY's passing skills from here to eternity, but I just don't think his speed and running ability should be questioned at this point. They are the reason he was a top prospect.

I think your conjecture on Young's speed declining by comparison is a solid point.

However, he should be able to make some plays with his legs. He's a lot bigger than Vick is, so although he's not as quick or as fast, he can get a few more yards with his size.

If you're talking immediate value, I'm honestly looking for something like 40-50 rushing yards a game from him, and probably about a 1.5-2TD/Week average for him. While the Titans won't be scoring much, when they do it'll be Young, either by ground or by air to Big Ben.

I didnt draft him. We can only roster 2 Qbs thus he is on waiver. I almost dropped Culpepper for him but held C Pep.

Never seen? You need to watch more football. VY compares well with Culpepper. VY isn't going to run away from LBs. He's not going to turn the corner on anyone. See all those runs by Bush where he tries to turn the corner, and ends up running out of bounds for no gain? And Bush is a lot faster then VY. VY is a mobile QB. He'll get yards with his feet, and his arm is pretty strong. They'll probably run some of that shotgun option for him, roll him out a bunch, move the pocket. But he's going to be a pocket passer. At best, I'd put him at McNabb type rushing numbers (400-500 yards). He won't sniff Vicks numbers, he's way slower, way less quickness, way less acceleration. Vick ran 4.2s. 4.5 is a big freakin difference.

I agree he's no Vick, but do yourself a favor and watch the Rose Bowl vs. Michigan and then tell me than VY is not fast. He is much much faster than Culpepper.

After watching Young in college I was also suprised at how slow he looked last week.

In college it seemed Young always had a head of steam and used his long strides, in the NFL the players are faster and he can`t seem to get it into gear.
