An Open Letter to ESPN Fantasy Owners from Terrell Owens

By Terrell Owens

September 4, 2007, 10:11 PM

To All ESPN Fantasy Team Owners,

2007 is going to be a great year … for me and the Dallas Cowboys.

I came into training camp in excellent shape, feeling good about our prospects for the season and proud to be part of the great Dallas Cowboys tradition.

I want to help your fantasy team win its league title … and that means generating huge statistics. This year our offense is set up to make big plays. We worked hard during the preseason and we're going to connect on a lot of touchdowns. Coach and I are on the same page. He understands my role and how I can help us win.

So here is my pledge to all ESPN fantasy owners who draft me in 2007:

I will catch the ball.

I will score touchdowns.

I will have a great season.

Did you see the preseason game against Houston? One touch, one touchdown. That's how it's going to be all year long. I'm aiming for 100 catches, 1,500 yards and at least 20 touchdowns. With our quarterback passing the ball, this is entirely possible.

And speaking of my QB … you might as well draft him too, because he's going to the Pro Bowl this year.

Put me on your team and you won't be disappointed. I am going to help you win your fantasy league this season.

Sincerely,

Terrell Owens, No. 81

100 catches, 1,500 yards and at least 20 touchdowns = 370 points in a PPR league.

I have him at 281 and I'm higher on him this year than most, I have his ceiling at 300.

To put this in perspective, Dodds has Steven Jackson at 347 in a PPR and that includes 1408 yds rushing, 70 receptions for 581 yds receiving and 12 touchdowns. So basically 2000 yds, 70 receptions & 12 TD's and TO predicts he'll be 23 points better than that. 332 has been his career best to date, six years ago back in 2001 when he had 93/1412/16.

I'm glad he's confident but I don't think he'll even remotely come close to his own expectations.

You don't say!

Seems ESPN are finally taking this fantasy football stuff seriously after restricting themselves with Insider content and embarrassing themselves with deficient draft software in recent years. They've always been great with promotion. (WHICH IS ALL THIS IS)

As crazy as that prediction is, he was almost on that kind of pace when he broke his leg the year Philly went to the Super Bowl. And I'm betting he posts close to a career year in '07.

Crazy? Perhaps. But you gotta love the attitude if you're a T.O. owner.
Are you sure? I mean, this kind of attitude can lead to getting frustrated if you aren't getting passed to enough, and we all know what happens when TO feels left out. I like to see this attitude out of about any other player.

I have him at 273 and as the #1 Wr on my board. I drafted him in the 2nd rd after taking Steven Jackson in the 1st I also took Gates in the 3rd and Benson in the 4th :coffee:

Can't help but crack a smile after being denied Romo and TO for Laurence Maroney in my 12-team keeper league. :lmao:

Nope, it's statistically impossible.Owens should worry about one number: sixteen.

He's managed to play 16 games just twice in the past eight years, only once in the past five seasons.

T.O. defines a wasted draft pick.

I'm a genius taking him #2 overall WR in our draft. Thanks to my league mate who inexplicitly took Steve Smith as the #1 WR allowing me to get T.O. who obviously will have the best WR fantasy #'s ever!!!!!!

sigh... you clearly didn't see Steve Smith's 2000 yard prediction. He didn't specify the number of TDs though so it's a toss-up.

Chad Johnson also predicted 2000 yards and a lot of TD's.

It seems the only top WR who hasn't predicted crazy numbers is Marvin Harrison. Does this mean they all far outperform Harrison, or will he once again come out on top despite no bold predictions?

I think TO outscores Marvin this year.

last year in my league harrison was first with 186, wayne was second with 174, owens was third with 172. and that was with the statue for the first half of the year.

and he's managed less than 13 tds 3 times in 9 years...I had Owens in virtually every league, and have targetted the hell out of him again this year.

Take into consideration he was the #2 receiver...while leading the league in drops.

I think he's huge this year.

100 catches and 1500 yards are very doable. 20 TDs is definitely stretching it.

But, I definitely don't view him as a wasted pick

Ummm... wouldn't that project out to 16 catches for 16 TDs?

Pales in comparsion to drafting Manning in the 1st.

:lmao: Get your own schtick!PS- If I draft Manning tonight I'll agree with you though

If by "defines a wasted draft pick" you mean "led my WR corp to the league championship last year" then you're absolutely correct.

I can't wait for the annual mid-season meltdown/faked injury from TO.
I have him backed up. If it happens and I'm 8-0 already because of him, I'm happy.
Not this year.I think he has finally grown up.What injury has TO faked? link?
Supposedly he always fakes his camp injuries, it's such a pain in the ### when he's getting me 80 yards and a td in the regular season. That midseason meltdown last year was such a pain in the butt too. Outside of Philly, I don't really remember a "midseason meltdown"I remember countless midseason TOUCHdowns, but only 1 meltdown.

what's he supposed to say? "Take Marvin over me"?

I remember when asked like 7 years ago Corey Dillon said he should be the first overall pick. He was at best an early second rounder that year.

So when Steven Jackson -- whom I also drafted — states that his goal is 2,500 yards from scrimmage (which has never been done), people are like, "Yes! Great attitude! He should be the No. 2 pick in the draft!" But when T.O. makes lofty statements, they talk out of the other side of their mouth and claim he's a bad pick — even in the third round, which is where he usually went. :bag:

I'm glad to have both players on my squad.

 Me too. Reggie Wayne as a WR1 is nice too. I love that trio.

Not sure who else they've recruited, but Steven Jackson is going to be answering WDIS questions on ESPN this season.

Just saw an iterview with TO. Jim Gray asked him about the letter "Isn't that rather brash?" TO's laughing response: "It's fantasy football." This is, as others said, promotion -- not legit goal setting like SJax's 2500 yd. target or Chad Johnson's 2000 yd target.

what's he supposed to say? "
How about nothing ie just shut up?Wait I forgot for a sec who we were talking about, LOL @ that idea - yeah and just stop breathing while you're at it Owens - never mindOddly I like having him on my team. Either he does well which helps my team, or he sucks, and him sucking is fun too.

when has he done that besides when he was benched by the Eagles? He's finished 3rd, 2nd, 2nd, 12th (got injured), 4th, 32nd (benched but was on a top 1-2 finish) and 2nd over his past 7 years.

That's crazy, man. We have the same team. In my 14-team league, I took Jackson, Wayne, Owens ...Good luck!
