Carson Palmer 28 years old. Born: 12/27/1979

Eli Manning 27 years old. Born: 1/3/1981

In the fantasy scenario, the surrounding team (players, coaches, office) has to be considered.

In the NFL scenario, it could be as an addition to your favorite team -or- the first player on a brand new team.

 
I've been a Palmer homer for years. But it's time for him to do something with the talent he's surrounded with. I know his line hasn't been the best and Goodell loves suspending his defensive teammates, but the guys he has at the skill positions are some of the best in the league, he has a lot of speed there, and he was the number 1 pick in the draft. Take some ownership of the offense and produce Carson, your team needs a leader. You're not a kid anymore.

 
Palmer both ways, and I don't see that being close at all. This is Superbowl Hangover at its finest.

 
I like Eli and think that he will do very well in 08, but its Palmer twice.

The above is basically where I am at. If Palmer is as good as most of think he is, he should be doing much better. Imagine if Eli had two excellent receivers? Palmer needs to step his play up as he has not played that well with what he has.That being said, Eli is an above average QB that might be taking strides to move into a clear top 10 guy...but, I expect top 5 from Palmer. Note: I am not saying I predict Palmer to do better, but if you asked me if he is a top 5 QB, my answer would be he should be.
 
I'll be the devil's advocate and take Eli. Manning seems to be improving while Palmer is stagnating. It could be the coaching that is at fault but Palmer has some great WRs, a very good RB and good o-line. I think Palmer is a fine QB but it is time to step it up.

:coffee:What great RB are you referring to? Kenny Watson oh yea he's future hall of famer. Both OTs were down last year, with a bad center, a very poor running game and a french army that gave him bad field position. Not to mention a malcontent WR and a terrible TE. Other than that yeah it was a great situation last season, but seriously Carson is the best QB in the division. The other guy in the division is just a injury prone game manager who hands off the ball and is a great sell high in ff because his defense set up those ridiculous amount of TDs. All he's really good for is 1. hand offs 2. riding the defense evident by his 32nd in pass att/gm and 60% of the attempts of Carson Palmer. 3. Making excuses Eli is a decent QB he doesnt have the upside of a palmer, and really cant even hold his jock strap but he'll be a good #2 QB

Funny how you try to turn this into a Palmer vs Roethlisberger debate. I am not going there.Palmer has MUCH better WRs than Manning, his TE was hurt and I don't believe Manning's RBs are future HoFer's either nor was Manning's o-line anything to write home about. He still managed to win the games when they counted.I am not discounting Palmer's abilities, I SAID he was a fine QB but football is about winning and the Bengals have had one winning season during his reign. Certainly not entirely his fault but you aren't going to be considered a great QB if your team doesn't make the postseason.

I do have to question though when people keep saying that Palmer "needs to do more all the talent he's surrounded with." Uh, what do you mean? The Bengals really are NOT a very talented team. All this supposed amazing talent on the Bengals consists of Palmer and his 2 WR's, that's it. The line is ok but nothing special, they have average RB's, and the defense is extremely UNTALENTED. Marvin Lewis also seems to be slowly getting exposed as perhaps a questionable coach. Palmer himself makes up 1/3 of this "incredible talent" that the Bengals supposedly have.

Of the 3 qbs you are referencing....two have Superbowl rings and one doesn't. Oh yeah Palmer is the one without the Superbowl ring!!!!! Nice try, your bait is getting old and smelly just like Cincy's wimmens.

Norris, I agree with you about Carson being better than Eli, but I have to question you belittling Roethlisberger so much. I and many others rate Ben higher than Palmer, and to say he's nothing more than an "injury prone game manager" is a bit silly.

Seriously. Im as big a homer as they come, but there is a reason the Steelers are paying this guy 100+ million. Not sure about the third point where he is making excuses, but anyway. Roethlisberger has done much more with much less than the Bengals. I will admit that he was a game manager two years ago, but he has since shown what he is capable of. The Steelers know he is much more than a game manager. I dont mean to turn this into a Ben thread so carry on.........For the record, I think Carson is the better fantasy QB, but until he can show that he can win a game by himself, Im going Eli for the real deal.

 
Dear goodness. This thread had NOTHING to do with the Steelers.

At another board a top 7 list NFL (not fantasy) for 2009 and beyond was posted by members.

Continually I saw Eli rated right next to Carson. Both came in at 5-7 frequently.

I was curious if this held up here at FBG. I added FF because thats the general gist here.

Eli between 5-7 NOT FANTASY???? That's a joke. I hate to come right out and say that certain sportswriters are stupid and/or that I'm smarter than they are, but in this case it's just obvious. Please, they need to keep that silly ##### at home. Eli Manning was top 15 and no better before the SuperBowl, and one game cannot possibly boost his stock so much even if it's meant for 2009. Eli is a slightly above average QB who played brilliantly in the SB, but otherwise the rest of his team played the biggest part in getting him there. He reminds me of Brad Johnson after 2002. If his last name were not Manning and if he didn't play in the biggest market in America, he would not be receiving nearly as much acclaim. Besides, it's impossible to rate anyone for 2009 at this point so I don't see the reason for doing so.

I made my comment earlier, but when someone says Eli is only getting this publicity because of one game, they are mistaken. People put WAY too much stock in a SB ring. The Giants won as a team just like Roethlisberger got the ring when he did everything he could to lose the game and had the worst performance of any SB QB (but got a ring). Football is a team game folks.As for Eli, the publicity he is getting was for having an extremely solid playoff run. He played well in all the games (and on the road); this wasn't about one game at all.

Palmer still deserves the nod in both cases though.

There was a time when Palmer was seriously one of the most talented/promising younger QB's in the league. He had the arm strength and the accuracy (just ask Madden! lol. Popped in Madden '07 the other day and Palmer is by far the best QB to build around, 98 arm strength and 96 accuracy---goes to show how he was perceived at the time, a year before this poll was put up).

He's a great what-if question, honestly. Injuries killed him.

He was never the same after the shot to the knee by Pitt ended his playoff game early.

In 2006 I took him as the #2 QB in a start up over Tom Brady. Palmer was coming off a season as the #1 QB at age 26. Brady was coming off his first fantasy season higher than #10 (#2 that year) at age 28. He looked to be the best young QB in football at that time.
