Lions homers, Thoughts about Furrey. (1 Viewer)

Thinking about maybe picking this guy up. Did he start? Did he look good? Bradford not doing much and I think this offense might get better as the season rolls along.

:blackdot:

Bradford was cut in my dynasty league before the first week of the regular season. I picked him up hoping the offense would eventually gel this season. Now he goes and gets knocked out of the starting line up. I am hoping he wins the starting position back from Furrey.

he used to play for Seattle and what is funny is that he is listed as a safety I believe at nfl.com .... obviously the Lions need a WR that was a S before after their horrible 3 WR pick ups in previous drafts

HELLOOOOOOOOO Lions' homers, any one home???

I thought they hung around at least thru September.

I like the dude. Det. has a ton of WRs, including the recently added old man Hakim. Not sure how the position will sort out over the year. Seems like the only for sure guy is Roy, eventhough he ain't producing. Furrey got lit up vs. the Bears. Didn't see if he's on the injury report. He seems to take a lot of shots, but must be tough if he's a safety.

 Doesn't Furrey play for Seattle?
No he plays for Detroit
Wow there are actually players ( PLAYING ) for Detroit , or do they just attend games and get creamed week after week .What a joke of a organization , they are and will be for a long time one of the worts team in football. They had good first round picks for the last 7 or 8 years and they havent picked anyone decent yet ( And yes i include Kevin Jones in there )

He never played for Seattle. He was the #5 WR in St. Louis for a couple years before converting to safety (a position he'd played in the XFL and the arena league) last season. Detroit gave him the opportunity to play WR again so he took it.

Oh, Jeff Backus is pretty good. Aside from him, You have to go back to Luther Ellis and Herman Moore to find a 1st round pick who made it.

Bears fan hear, so not a Detoit homer, but I watched the guy last week and all I can say is he's tough, and Kitna seemed to look for him more than Roy in pressure situations... the guy isn't big though, and the way he played, he was taking a LOT of punishment... he may be a bit too feerless for his own good as far as staying healthy goes, but I'd have to say that he was the only Lion that showed much fire, and he impressed me...

I think I'm taking a shot. Got 5 WRs this week, of which 2 are on a bye and one is hurt.

5 reasons why he could have a good game:

1 - He's tied for 2nd in targets on the team.

2 - Kitna hasn't had bad games so far on paper and his completing 2/3 of his passes.

3 - The two #2 WRs to play GB this year were Colston (4/58/1) and Berrian (1/49/1). Not great, but definitely serviceable. D.Clark was the #2 rec for the Bears in week 1, though the Lions don't involve the TE much.

4 - Also, gotta think that Woodson will cover Roy, so that leaves Al Harris on Furrey - Harris is listed as questionable this week.

5 - Green Bay is 3rd worst in the league, giving up 292 passing ypg.

Since the Cotcherys, Berrians have been snagged up in my league so he seems like a good gamble this week.

Downside if obviously that this guy isn't even really a WR, but he's playing well regardless.

:goodposting: from a Bears fan. Chicago was killin' him & he kept getting up for more. He'll have some value in PPR leagues not so sure about TD heavy leagues though.

He reminds me a lot of Kevin Curtis. Undersized and fast but loves to catch the underneath stuff. Will probably never score a TD but will be solid as a bye week fill in in a PPR league. (lots of targets to him)

Question to all - if you had to choose between starting Furrey vs GB or a Mike Jenkins vs NO, what would you do?

Furrey seems to get more targets than Mike J, but Mike J is more likely to catch a TD. Also, Vick is playing better, and both of the opponents (NO & GB) stink on D in general and specifically wrt pass D.

Thoughts?

without actually answering a WDIS, I'll give a roundabout answer.I'll generally default to a team's overall offensive philosophy in times like this.Lions O = PassFalcons O = Run

I didnt get a chance to watch the Bears game, but in the Seattle game, Furrey looked impressive, getting creamed on one catch and still hanging on to the ball, and coming back for another and making a finger tip grab..

He looks like a tough player that has solid hands and a fearless attitude.

For this year he's probably a solid WW pickup. Bradford is in the doghouse and I don't see him fighting his way out of it. It's possible that Mike Williams steps into the #2 WR spot, as reportedly he's practicing harder, but that's still a long shot at this point. Furrey "should" be the guy in the old Az-Hakim slot in Martz's offense, but in absense of a viable #2 he's been bumped into that role. He will not hold this role long term as the Lions will make sure they have a good WR #2 next year.

So in summary:

Redraft - pick him up

Dynasty - don't bother

The guy is a hard worker and a hustler. A little shy on talent though, but he is playing.

If Rogers and BMW worked as hard they would be superstars.
