Lions stare 0-16 right in the face (1 Viewer)

Technically, with 10 games to go they are "looking at 0-16 from afar". It'll be a few more losses before you get into "right in the face" territory. :lmao:

Sure, they've been hanging in there in some games until now. However, they now have lost Roy Williams and Jon Kitna, Calvin Johnson's hurt, there are several guys on the injury report, and the whole team knows they've given up on this season to play for draft picks.I think they could do it. (0-16)
a couple of things that will keep it from happening. the coach acts like he cares and has some pride. Some other team (besides the Texans) won't be able to cover Calvin Johnson.

What hurts Marinelli is that the team knows that he's a dead man walking. He won't survive the next offseason, and a new GM will want to bring in his own guy anyway. All these guys have left to play for are their phoney baloney jobs.

Next up @ Chicago with the Bears well rested coming off a bye

they'll win a game or two. probably deserved to win today. at least they are playing hard and seem to have realized calvin Johnson is really really good. he'll get them a win by himself sooner or later. This is the NFL....every week a team wins a game no one thinks they can.

0-8 sucks, but it's a good effort out there. 4 competitive losses after 4 blowouts to start the year is some measure of progress.Orlovsky has been competant, can't put it on him. They'll win 2 or 3.

I don't want to pile on, Lionsfans are suffering enough but you had a decent size lead, knocked Kyle Orton out of the game, had Sexie Rexie in the game and you blew it. I don't see where they are going to have a great chance most weeks agianst whoever they are playing.

Miami barely won 1 game last year...and while the Lions have more talent at WR than Miami even has this year, they still are dead last in the league on defense, they are going to have to get lucky once in order to avoid it.

Is there any reason not to fire Marinelli at this point? Maybe you wake up some of those players who think they might be out of a job?

Yep. Entirely possible (going 0-16). OP is right that the rest of the schedule is brutal. They've showed

SOME signs of life against WASH and CHI, but I dunno.......

11/16 @ Carolina 7-2(*)

11/23 vs. TB 6-3

11/27 vs. Tennessee 9-0

12/7 vs. Minnesota 5-4

12/14 @ Indy 4-5 (*)

12/21 vs. New Orleans 4-5

12/28 @ Green Bay 4-5

records as of week 10

* game at halftime, week 10
The next 3 games look rough, but the LyDowns might be able to sneak a win in against one of the last 4 teams they play. Minnesota is probably (unfortunately) their best chance, although the Vikes may come in a little motivated after their last game against the Lions. Lions almost never win in Green Bay, and I can't see Indy losing at home with 3 games to go in the season. New Orleans has too many weapons, but the Lions might have Culpepper rolling by then (joke!).I could easily see the 0-16 season from Detroit. But it's a long way off yet. One of these teams could easily be looking right past the Lions due to their record (like Jacksonville in Cincy).

Oops, meant "game at halftime" - editting my post now.

I really don't see a team they can beat, but this is the NFL.

Call me crazy, but their best chance to win is against Tennessee on Thanksgiving. The Lions have beaten some powerhouses on Thanksgiving, even when they were really bad.

That being said, I see 0-16 in the future.

I'll put my money on Minnesota @ home. I could see Childress losing that one. Detroit kept it close last time.

On another note, who is looking the early favorite for top pick in the draft? The way Dallas has been looking lately, Detroit might have another pick in the top 20.

That used to be the case, but since Millen came to town:2000 DETROIT LIONS 34, New England Patriots 92001 Green Bay Packers 29, DETROIT LIONS 272002 New England Patriots 20, DETROIT LIONS 122003 DETROIT LIONS 22, Green Bay Packers 142004 Indianapolis Colts 41, DETROIT LIONS 92005 Atlanta Falcons 27, DETROIT LIONS 72006 Miami Dolphins 27, DETROIT LIONS 102007 Green Bay Packers 37, DETROIT LIONS 262-6, with the only powerhouse being 10-6 GB in 2003. NE was a year away from the start of their dynasty, finishing 2000 at 5-11.Maybe the post-Millen regime can bring back some of that turkey day magic, but at this point I am not holding out a ton of hope.

Bucs have been pretty terrible on the road this year, lost to Detroit last year and have often struggled up there. Not saying that's a Detroit win, but I think that and Minnesota are their best shots.

Well, their best shot was yesterday. They had the throwback uniform, which in my humble, 30 year span as fan, opinion is what they should wear all the time. However, the pitch and catch with Calvin and CPep was not quite there yet. And I am sure that most Lion's fan here will agree, we did not expect our defense to fall apart like that.

Looking ahead, Colts fans will be scared in December. Really. Will we pull it off? I don't know, but i got a feeling in my gut and it is not all the Natty Light from yesterday.

But come on, just for a few plays, those CPeP to Calvin close ones.....wow. IF they get their timing down..... It was once said that you can not overthrow Randy Moss. I believe it is now that you can not overthrow Megatron...

Peace

With that loss, Detroit may have *** Officially *** earned themselves a seat on the sofa to watch the playoffs on tv.

In the Wildcard chase, they can't catch Tampa Bay, but they can pull even with Washington and Atlanta, should those teams lose out. However, the Lions have lost to both of them, so I believe that takes care of them in the tie-breakers (H2H sweep).

Their hopes hang on possibly winning the division. But even that is somewhere between 'slim' and 'none'. If they should win out (no really, stay with me here), they'd be 6-10. With Chicago still yet to play Minnesota and Green Bay a second time each, either Chicago will win both to get to 7 wins and eliminate the Lions, or two of the three teams will win a 6th game. In the latter case, it'll come down to tie-breakers (this is all contingent on Min/Chi/GB all losing out in their other games) to break a tie between the three 6-10 teams ( if that happens, the division should forfeit a playoff spot). Instead of trying to figure out the tie-breakers at this point, I think I'll just wait for one of the three to win another game, or the more likely 11th Detroit loss. lol

 Lions

Michael Crabtree, WR Texas Tech :( The Lions could use some help on the line but they should draft the best player available on defense.

They have to draft a franchise left tackle or a stud pass rushing DE. They have to start with the line. They have 5 picks in the first 3 rounds and 4 of those 5 should be defensive players.

They will beat the Bucs this week. This isn't any stupid homer double-reverse shtick. The Bucs aren't good on the road (at all), are absolutely putrid in the red-zone, and Detroit is just frisky enough on offense to keep this close until the end.

The Bucs will roll up tons of yards on offense, but will resort to kicking field goals and Detroit wins 17-13 or something. CALLING IT NOW.

Have the Lions ever won a game against a QB that used to play for them? 0-16 baby. BELIEVE.

I'm with you guys- it's the only possible reason I can come up with to justify Marinelli still keeping his job- he's guaranteed a win vs. TB.
