Lito Sheppard (1 Viewer)

Throughout the preseason, teams constantly threw away from Revis, and at Sheppard. Basically, in about 4 quarters of preseason football, he had 5 solos, 1 assist and 3 PD's. He also drew 3 or 4 PI penalties. Looks like he is a marked man in this Jets defense. There is little behind him, so getting benched looks unlikely.

IMO, drop Revis on your rankings, and Sheppard is worth a late flyer. I'll be starting him week one agaist Houston. If Revis doesn't follow Andre Johnson... either way, Sheppard will be thrown against often.

if the preseason is any indication of what Lito brings to the table its only a matter of time before he gets benched for Lowery but until then id agree hes going to be targeted a ton by opposing offenses. In leagues that award points for def. pass interference im taking Lito in the top 10. Im expecting a career day for Kevin Walter next sunday.

Lowery is sooo inconsistant. He'll make a great play and then completely blow his coverage on the next play. Sheppard doesn't blow his coverage, he just gets beat, but not deep. But, when he gets beat he's still in a position to make the tackle. Lowery gives up the big play. If Sheppard can learn to keep his hands off the receiver, the PI's will go away. In just about every case, he had the receiver covered, and did not need to use his hands, which is how he has drawn so many penalties. All of his PI penalties came as the ball got there. They were unecessary. They weren't plays where he was going to get beaten deep and he held. Ryan went out and traded for Sheppard. I think he will stick with him longer because of that reason. Sheppard's problem is not so much getting beaten but using his hands on the receiver instead of playing the ball or making a hit. Lowery just blows his coverage often. He bites on double moves, while Sheppard does not. That makes him pretty risky. In any case. like I said, Lito is gonna be in my line up against Houston for sure.

Lito has not looked for the ball either which has been part of the problem on deep throws. I really thought we had that cb 2 spot nailed down with the Lito aquisition, but i think we are going to be frustrated this season watching him get picked on. Like you said though, at least hes been able to stay with wrs for the most part. I agree that Lowery needs to be more consistant, but I liked some of what I saw from him as a rookie, and think there may still be hope for him to develop into a decent cb. I especially like that he goes for the strip when making tackles.

Very good point about Lito not looking for the ball. Ryan talked about the PI problems... and he said he wanted to look at the film in the post game presser. That one PI on Revis was bogus... Revis WAS looking for the ball, and he got his feet tangled with the WR... incidental contact. Not the case with Sheppard. You can bet that Ryan is working on Sheppard's tendency to use his hands and not looking for the ball.
