live Grateful Dead (1 Viewer)

They haven't played together in this form in like 20 years (?), if so, that is like 40% of the total time they have been together during the half century span covered by the anniversary.

For the most part, the show has been workmanlike if not sparks flying off instruments spectacular, but in that sense maybe it is representative of the bulk of their work, not on fire every night, but you don't get to play as many shows as they did and reach their stature without being consistently good.

Maybe they were playing it safe and trying to hit their collective marks tonight.

The Drums/Space has been more interesting than I ever remembered it way back when. I used to tune out completely. But I dig what they've done these 5 shows.

I loved that song when I was a young idealistic stoner in high school
and now that youre a crusty middle aged ########?
Mid 30's #######. I haven't listened to much Dead in a while, that just took me back to '94 when I discovered them. My stepmom had an In the Dark cassette that I stole and wore out in my car stereo. Life was simple then, and young chauncey was an idealistic little fella. I'm a little more jaded now, but listening to this music now takes me back to that happy place.

They came to Charlotte in March '95 for 3 nights (where they busted out Unbroken Chain for the first time in forever), the first two were school nights and due to some concert mishaps the previous summer I did not attend. The last show was a Friday, I had SATs the next morning, and played it "smart" and skipped the show. Figured I'd catch them next go around. Will regret that decision for the rest of my life.

These shows these past few weeks have been a real treat. It would've have been a dream fulfilled to catch the Chicago shows, but I didn't know what to expect and didn't think it would be worth the high cost. Hopefully they decide to do a few more of these "mini tours", the fans and financial incentive is definitely there.

Like the Bid You Goodnight call...

Black Muddy and Roads are too predictable
black muddy is the biggest downer song in the catalog (i love it deeply) and it was what jerry tried to end the final show before his death with. phil was uncomfortable with it and went off-script called box of rain. final encore was bmr>box. true story.
