I actually think they do.  If this is going to be Liverpool's style, then they need lots of depth in those position.  Depth they haven't really had in the first half of the season.  I also think that you have to worry whether some guys are just on hot streaks.  Lallana is a good player, no doubt.  But he's never been as good he's been in the last 20 games, even in the season at Southampton that got him the Liverpool move.  And yeah, maybe that's coaching.  But it could be just a great run of form.  We all know that Coutinho is the quintessential form player.  When he's on form he looks like he should be on the Ballon D'Or shortlist.  But he has periods where he doesn't produce much.  Mane is going to miss three games and is another player that has never produced like this over a full season.  Firmino is a consistently good player who has always tended to go hot and cold scoring goals. 

Liverpool has one player who has a pretty long track record of scoring goals.  And he can't stay healthy.  So I think that consolidating their strength is a good strategy.  If Liverpool wants to be a title contender, they have to face some title contending realities.  Title contenders don't have the luxury of waiting for Divock Origi to fulfill his potential and start playing in the league the way he does in the cup games.

Totally agree.  LIV have dominated by scoring "system goals".  Sturridge, the best pure goal scorer on the team, hasn't been a part of things.

I think Coutinho is the glue, and the team isn't nearly as dynamic as they were when he played.  Firmino, for one, hasn't been all that good over the last month.

Mane is gone for a month, and while you don't make big transfers for a one month period, this month may underscore the lack of depth there.

I think LIV are at their best with Lallana in midfield, Coutinho and Mane at both sides, and Firmino up top.  But when any of those four things don't happen, there's been a noticeable drop-off, and I bet Klopp would like to address that in some way.

psa - "Borussia" is a latin term that refers to Prussia, and is used by several different sports clubs with historical Prussian ties, including one other current Bundesliga club, 'Gladbach.  Refer to the big club in Dortmund as "Dortmund" or "BvB", but not "Borussia."

Thanks for the tip.  I had no idea. The transition from redneck SEC Bama fan to worldwide fan of the greatest game is a learning process!

As an aside, I never would have believed it if you told me a decade ago that on the day that Bama would win their 5th national championship under Nick Saban, that I'd start a thread about Liverpool FC and spend 95% of my internet browsing figuring out the ideal starting XI for Liverpool.

It's been a crazy change and I can't even put my finger on why I feel nothing headed into tonight's game.  Just ready for ManU.

 This will be funny to nobody but me - but my younger daughter is on an Amazing Race kick - watching old seasons.  The other night, she and my wife were watching an episode where the teams were in Liverpool, and in fact at Anfield where they had to make penalties against a couple of youth keepers.  So, they call me in because it has to do with soccer, and as soon as I see they are at Liverpool, I just laugh, and say I hate Liverpool and I won't want to watch.  But I did stay long enough to make fun of the teams attempting to kick soccer balls while dressed as full-kit wankers...
