Liverpool FC - The Climb to a Superclub (1 Viewer)

backed their way in.... typical.

I kid... an historic season, purely from the level of play they've put on for the better part of two years. even lovren can't stop that.

 
Thiago comes in today for 45 minutes and completes more passes (75) than anyone on Chelsea did in 90 minutes (and more than any player has in 45 minutes since they've tracked the stat since 2003). And he just arrived a couple days ago.

Absolutely brilliant signing.

Mane/Firming/Salah already arguably the best front 3 anywhere.

The backline of Robertson/VVD/Gomez/TAA with Alisson is also elite.

And now looking at a midfield of Fabinho/Thiago/Keita with Henderson and Wijnaldum (and Curtis Jones up and coming).

Other than depth at striker, I don't see any holes anywhere and they can match up with any team.

 
Really freaking excited for the season to start, especially after being fan-less for so long.

I realllllly hope they make one midfield signing as the current mf is a tinderbox ready to burn down. Henderson, Thiago, Keita and Ox all keep pilling on injuries. Jones and Elliot are the only youngins that they can count on imo, hopefully Jones doesn't fade this season like he did the last.  RB cover is nill (Even hurts the MF more if Fab has to cover here), that's going to be an issue unless Williams steps up, but I don't think he's ready or will be, ever.

Excited to see a full healthy season for Jota and Minamino. The front three rotation should be a good one.

Agree with the midfield, but if the two bolded stay healthy...

Gomez isn't Trent, but he's been decent at RB.  Would rather see him than Neco.

And they dodged a freaking bullet with Robertson.  When I saw it my first though was that I've lost count of how many times I've seen a running back do something similar and be back in a few weeks, but wasn't counting on it.

 
Hard to think of a manager who's been that successful and is still universally well-liked. He's going to be very, very hard to replace. I guess Xabi Alonso comes to mind as a club legend who is killing it in management right now.

I would not say it’s universal. I don’t think he’s well- liked in Germany.

In what sense? Would he not be accepted/wanted with a Bundesliga club? The national team? Just generic terms?

I have no idea, genuinely asking.

I would say he is more universally respected as a manager, than well-liked. I am not sure many fan bases outside of Liverpool would say they "like" Klopp.

I think "like" is fine. I have no rooting interest in Liverpool but he seems like a genuinely decent and likeable guy.

Really? I thought he was very appreciated at Dortmund by the fans, back when he coached Pulisic in the beginning. I did not realize he was not well liked...

I meant to say he's not "universally" liked. My impression is the Bavarians don't appreciate his schtick.

Mother Teresa was not universally liked either. There is no such creature when using technical terms.

When I hear the term universally liked, that to me means "most people"....
 
I appreciate Cletius' input. The point I was making is that I thought that Klopp really was somewhat uniquely appreciated even by people who don't love Liverpool, for instance. He has his antics, but I wasn't really aware of a backlash similar to that against, say, Pep. Or even Sir Alex in his pomp, when we all bitched about Fergie-time. So it's edifying for me to hear that the Bayern mob don't like him. They're admittedly a tough crowd. They seemed to hate Pep when he was winning titles with them.

He doesn't get as much backlash as Jose does, which does upset a group of fans when he gets away with certain things. But I think he does get some, similar to Arteta. I do feel like Klopp, Pep and Arteta are allowed certain liberties that others do not get. But they are all high profile managers and top 6 clubs, of course they get some.

And everyone loves Fergie-Time. And its still often referred to in that way!!!


(And now I feel dirty not only entering but posting in a pro-scouser thread. I need a shower)
 
Wow. Talk about unexpected. Says he’s done, but I’m thinking he’s the betting favorite for the Germany job, especially if they flame out at Euros this summer.
 
I honestly don't think he'll manage again because I think he'll do so well in punditry and probably enjoy it. I'm not sure he's really suited to international management and I can't imagine his ever being as excited by another club job. Even something like Real Madrid won't fit his sense of romanticism.
