FOXSports.com's Jay Glazer reports Larry Johnson will undergo an MRI on his cracked foot Monday to find out whether he'll need surgery.Glazer explains that until late this week, the Chiefs weren't able to get a good read on L.J.'s injury because the foot was too swollen. The team did know he had a crack in the foot, but weren't sure of the severity. Glazer adds that those within the Chiefs' organization aren't overly optimistic about Johnson playing again this year. He'll likely go on I.R. if he needs surgery.Per Rotoworld:
Exact opposites...nice...however undergoing an MRI at this point to determine if you need surgery does not make a lot of sense IMO but the again Czarnecki is not real accurate a lot of times...

hmmmm...so he's healing nicely but may need surgery. Makes perfect sense :loco:
:lmao: This has to be the most F'ed up speculation I have seen in a long time. I am waiting for a newsreport telling us they just amputated his foot. That would put an end to the speculation at least

Its looking more and more like this is the dreaded Lis franc. Will LJ even be healthy for any of 2008. Id assume they would start him on the PUP and go from there. A lis franc injury is worse than a torn acl for a rb to try to come back from.

:wall: So, you're basing this on what exactly? That the injury involves a foot? I haven't heard this mentioned as a possibility anywhere besides the 'I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express' wannabe doctors on this forum.

Is it just a coincidence that LJ's injury is progressing exactly how a lis franc would?

Lisfranc fracture-dislocations are often mistaken for sprains. The top of the foot may be swollen and painful. There may be some bruising. If the injury is severe, you may not be able to put any weight on the foot. Lisfranc injuries are often difficult to see on X-rays. Unrecognized Lisfranc injuries can have serious complications such as joint degeneration and compartment syndrome, a build-up of pressure within muscles that can damage nerve cells and blood vessels. If the standard treatment for a sprain (rest, ice and elevation) doesn't reduce the pain and swelling within a day or two, ask your doctor for a referral to an orthopaedic specialist.
I would almost guarantee when it's all said and done that this injury will be officially diagnosed as the dreaded Lis Franc.

So the fact that it's progressing like a sprain shows it's a lis franc injury?
Does the fact that he will likely miss the last 8 games of the year on IR sound like its just a sprain? The chiefs are still in the playoff hunt, why would they IR LJ for the rest of the year if its just a sprain? Face it, hes done for 2007 and this will surely affect his 2008 workload and performance. Very similar to Kevin Jones last year.

This is really a whole lot of speculation on your point. He has several cracked bones in his foot. He is a running back. He uses his feet. I would be shocked if he played again soley based on the fracture diagnosis. Yes a Lisfranc is in the differential but you have no more information today then you had yesterday that this is anything more then what the Chiefs have been saying.

Anyone have any official linkable info out yet as to his status (other than Rotoworld's "insider info")?

Source: Chiefs plan to shut down L.J.Published Mon Nov 19 2:00:00 p.m. PT 2007(Rotoworld) Sources close to Larry Johnson indicate that the Chiefs and their star runner are expecting to shut Johnson down for the season.Impact: The decision was apparently made before the results of a Monday MRI are revealed. While the news may not officially announced right away, the team and Johnson were looking at a best case scenario in which Johnson would return for a few meaningless games. L.J's rivalry with Priest Holmes was playing a factor in Johnson's desire to return, but that's not enough to risk jeopardizing his career. Johnson owners can wait to hear confirmation, but don't expect him to help your fantasy squads again.

Chiefs clarify Johnson's injury situation -- sort of

Posted: November 20, 2007

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- The mystery surrounding Larry Johnson's foot injury has finally been solved.

Not the injury itself, but the reason the Kansas City Chiefs have been so coy about the extent of it: Johnson didn't want anyone to know.

The subterfuge surrounding Johnson's injury started almost the minute he caught his foot in the turf during a game against Green Bay on Nov. 5, the questions flying from every direction. Was he going to need surgery? Would he play this week or the week after? Is he done for the season? Is the foot broken, as a Denver news station reported?

The Chiefs swatted away every volley, appearing awkward at times as they turned Johnson's status into a John Grisham novel. The verbal labyrinth continued for a brief while Tuesday before general manager Carl Peterson finally gave an explanation for the charade.

"There is something between a doctor and a patient, and if the patient doesn't want the information out there, he's (the doctor) obligated, as we are under the rules of HIPPA, to not go into it," Peterson said. "We're just going to give what we're required to give by the National Football League for a lot of reasons."

Since the injury, the Chiefs have said Johnson had a mid-foot sprain and his status would be evaluated each week. The former Pro Bowler missed the past two games and coach Herm Edwards said he wouldn't play Sunday at Oakland.

Johnson had tests on the foot Monday, though Edwards evaded questions about the results, saying only that they showed "that he's rehabbing it." When pressed for an answer, Edwards searched for words before Peterson curtly jumped in.

"We're not going to get into medical terms. We said that from the onset," he said.

It hasn't helped that Johnson has stopped talking to the media. The one time he broke the silence, on Peterson's weekly radio show last week, Johnson said nothing about the severity of the injury, only that he expects to play again this season.

The Chiefs might be evasive about the extent of Johnson's injury, but it's obvious they still have hopes he'll return in 2007. Had they thought he was done, Johnson already would have been on injured reserve.

"If we didn't think he's going to play for us, we'd probably make that decision," Peterson said. "Every week we have to put down eight players, injured or not, so it's an easy decision to make unless it's a decision where we know absolutely 100 percent he's finished for the year. But we don't feel that. Our doctors tell us that's not the situation."
