Local politics vs National politics - which do you care more about? (1 Viewer)

At a time where national politics is so divided, do you find yourself more focused on local politics or national politics, and why?

Neither TBH. I'm well informed & occasionally get involved with micro issues (serving on School Board, Neighborhood Block Association), but between work, two kids and volunteering with a couple organizations which help street people, I don't have the time.

Even if I did, I can impact my local community (& by that I mean my micro-hood within HK) a lot more than worrying about any stuff at higher level. National politics is like a diversion or hobby or interest for some. I follow along and I am concerned, but as far was where I am investing time, it's always going to be to help people around me.

(mostly....I did provide stateside support for medical missions to Burkina Faso and Nepal this year....and I am going to Benin or Togo myself on an optometry mission next year....but those are just one week volunteer vacation deals with a few weeks training/prep ahead of time...the vast majority of the year is locally based.)

I allocate my attention between local and national politics as a percentage of time spent in Lawrence, KS vs Washington DC.

My local guys suck too. I know the mayor personally. Lived next door to him for a long time. He was a guest at my first wedding, i painted his house twice, we have lots of mutual connections. I wouldnt let him put a sign in my yard for the most recent election. Told him i wouldnt vote for him.

His personal aspirations of becoming a big deal in the state GOP have gotten in the way of doing what is best for our community.

Watching his transformation is why i have zero faith in politics. It is just a joke.

Went to high school with the guy who's mayor of my town.

Guy thinks he's a big shot now.

I once saw John Daly in the airport.  As I walked past him, I hi fived him as I was walking and didn't say a word.  I'd ####### vote for John Daly.
