Looking ahead...2009 RB/WR Sleepers (1 Viewer)

For those of us who have a dynasty league team or two that are in full rebuild mode.

Looking for some of your opinions on who are the current 2nd or 3rd stringers in the NFL right now at RB & WR who you see as having a good chance next year to rise up and become a force and why. For example, Michael Turner from 06' and 07' who finally cashed in here in 08'.

I'll start off the thread with Ahmed Bradshaw and Steve Breaston.

Both Ward and Jacobs contracts are up at the end of this season and I think it is highly unlikely that NY brings them both back. With only one of them back Bradshaw takes an expanded role next season on PR/KR/and some 3rd down duties as a change of pace back.

Breaston is an obvious choice right now as he has been a force with Boldin out of the lineup recently. Well, Boldin's contract is up this season as well...I don't see Arizona bringing him back knowing that Breaston is capable. Breaston moves into the #2 role next season and has a solid campaign.

Who else?

I like the call on Bradshaw, a couple of others I like:

Ray Rice- everyone is down on him right now. Due to injuries and work ethic there is a good chance McGahee is not a Raven in 2009 and I do not see McLain as the every down back. I would think as this year continues Rice will get more work and he may not be as cheap as he is right now.

Kevin Jones- he is playing on a one year contract with the Bears and Forte is bound to hit the rookie wall later this year. KJ may show enough for a team to pick him up next year with a chance to compete for the #1RB once he is over a year removed from his injury.

Darren McFadden (If you can get him cheap)

Ray Rice

Hightower

Mendenhall

Jamaal Charles

Just off the top of my head RBs. I'm not sure about Jets/Browns RBs cause i am guessing they draft someone this year, maybe jerome harrison.

Boldin is not a free agent until after the 2010 season.

Plus, there this person named Early Doucet that may put a kink into that plan.

Jacoby Jones may finally make some noise. Obviously it's a long shot, but i can't think of very many 6'2 210 wrs with the acceleration that guy has. If nothing else, he's a great physical specimen.

Caldwell once they clean house in Cinci, Carson is back healthy and they draft a top RB.

I am trying to get Josh Morgan and Jason Hill in every dynasty I can. Bryant Johnson only signed a one-year deal and Isaac Bruce is not getting any younger. Morgan played more than Johnson this past week due to the Johnson injuries. I realize Martz might be elsewhere in 2009, but these two could be the starters in a Martz offense next season. Morgan and Hill played well in preseason and could be decent. Hill is being dropped in dynasty leagues every week and Morgan is cheap.

If Matt Ryan's the next Peyton Manning...a headline I read somewhere this week...then it would seem to make a lot of sense that there will be pretty good value in the Falcons #2 WR in dynasty leagues. L. Robinson and H. Douglas are guys that are both probably still available in a lot of leagues.

I like the Sidney Rice and Josh Morgan calls. Rice is having a bad year because of injuries. He's still a nice prospect going forward. Morgan had a great preseason and is getting significant playing time for a late round WR. He made a very nice leaping catch in overtime last week. I've made some reasonable offers for him (Driver in one league, Meachem in another), but no one is biting. Still worth a shot though.

I also think Darren Sproles has a chance for a value bump if he goes to a team that's actually willing to give him the ball. He probably can't handle a full workload, but he could be productive in a committee.

I gladly gave a late 2009 2nd round rookie pick for Morgan. He somehow got the flu and is just now getting back into shape and making plays. I also like the Sproles call. He has looked like a legit playmaker .... whatever the role, whichever the team

I agree on Jones, although only if he gets an opportunity later this year and does well with it. If he continues to merely gets table scraps after Forte, he'll just be taking another clear cut backup role somewhere else next year.

mike walker got hurt at the wrong time this year, but at the right time if you are trying to acquire for long term potential
