Looking for a gas grill. (1 Viewer)

Webers are this good.

I sold an old Weber Silver C...that had no burners left...corroded completely...but the connections were rusted so bad I could not get the screws out.

Thing had been outside at my house for years.

Sold it with no burners...rusted parts making what was left of teh burner tubes stuck...no grates...and no propane tank.

$50 on craigslist and the guy called within a few hours of the ad going up and was there the next day to come pick it up.
What do you do with a grill in that shape worth $50? Scrap metal?

I guess.

The Lid and bottom of the thing were in great shape.  Up until the burners died...it held heat great.

I thought about just cutting it all out in the bottom and making it into a charcoal grill or into a smoker somehow.

Never thought to ask the guy buying it?

I am sure they use top quality metal on those so maybe that was the worth in it? I suppose you could do other stuff with it if you have the skills.

It was at the point that I just didn't care and wanted it gone.  Already had my new Genesis on my patio.

Couldn't you just buy burners and bars and pass it off as a "working good" used Weber?
Sure...I could have lied and just had burners and bars and given them to him saying it was working fine.  But, how much would that have sold for?  $100?  Burners and Bars likely costing more than $50 don't they?

Sorry, I didn't mean you, I was pontificating about what the guy might be doing with it.

He may have other piece parts instead of buying new - I don't think you can get both burners and flavorizer bars for anywhere less than well over $50.

Oh yeah...he might.  Ol redneck dude.  He was probably going to torch the old burners out and slap new fittings in to either resell or use himself.

Made the plunge today decided on the Genesis-S330

Ace Hardware has a Memorial Day sale which has free delivery/assembly and 50/100/200 gift card.  100 for the Genesis.

Thanks for responses
Looks like the Ace site has the EP models mentioned above as well.  I don't really need a 100 gift card to Ace but I guess its better than a swift kick in the nuts.

Having chewed through 2 or 3 'cheap' gas grills in my life, I'm absolutely totally in love with my Weber Genesis, which was a gift from my in-laws.  Feels like I'm grilling with a cast iron skillet.  Tough, durable, cooks evenly.  Just a wonderful piece of American ingenuity.
Very lucky they installed 2 of them on the premises here. I'll be honest, it's easy to use but I like the taste and control I have over charcoal a little better, also better flavor IMHO. But for most folks who just want to throw on some chix n burgers most nights, it's great.

Fresh Market runs a pretty good special on Tuesdays...at least down where I am. Chix Breast 2.99/lb and Ground Beef 85/15 $2.99/b. I could cook up a weeks worth a food in one night on the grill just about.

As long as the stand, lid, and firebox are in decent shape, you can get full new parts for everything else for like $150.  I just re-did my 15 year old weber grill a couple weeks back with new burners, igniter, flavor bars, grates and some other misc parts, and it's working 100% like new.  That will probably give me another 3 to 5 years out of it before I need to think about investing the $700 for a full up new Genesis.  Completely worth it.

And their support people are great when you call them up.  They can pretty much find any part you need, and give you a much better price then either a Home Depot or even their website lists.  Always get your parts direct from them.

Good info.

Weber seems to be one of those brands that you are really buying quality and you know it versus it rivals.

I wonder how much longer they'll be able to sell the EP model. Unless I'm mistaken this is a discontinued model so I would assume Ace will offer until the supply dries up. Shame too because I have the EP-330 and think it's sweet spot with SS grates and sear station. Of course you could get this as well with the S-330 but then you're also paying another $100 for the SS hood (which I didn't want).

Anyone have any regret getting the Genesis series instead of Summit or vice versa.

Mainly looking at Summit S-470 and S-330

Obviously a large price difference and can afford the more expensive just trying to justify the price difference.

Thanks for any input.
Got a Summit two years ago and is easily the best grill I've had. Huge amount of space so I can grill a whole spatchcocked chicken and broccoli, asparagus and potatoes. Or I can cook a bunch of steaks, chicken breasts, veggies and potatoes. One thing I always struggled with was enough space, which is no longer an issue with the Summit. I have the 420.

Yes, I do. Though, Nashville winters are not all that bad.
I do and live in Minnesota.  Rarely use the cover and my weber still runs like a champ and is in great shape.  Must be going on 10 years old?

Now that the kids are older, thinking about buying a weber kettle. Gas is convenient amd good when you have kids but can't beat that ole charcoal taste.

Best $ i ever spent on a gas grill was $400 on a used Weber Genesis. I wouldn't pay what they want for these things new, but I have no doubt they are worth what they charge. I just refuse to pay that much.

Soooooo what should I buy?  I do not want to break the bank.

How is the Weber Spirit E-310? 3 burner propane with gourmet bbq system.
What would break the bank? What is your top $ limit?

Let the Weber love fest continue because that would be my recommendation. I went thru cheap grills every few years and finally said "f" it. I'm tired of these cheap grills that don't heat evenly and break down too soon. Finally ponied up for a Weber Genesis and haven't looked back. I've never used the Spirit but if it's like every other grill in the Weber line and is within your limit I say go for it.

You also asked earlier about grilling the winter. I live in the Midwest so while it isn't exactly the Great White North it does get cold but I still grill all year round. I have a nice cover and it does just fine protecting it from the elements.

I have the E-310, but not the gourmet bbq system. Great grill and have zero problems with it. Couldn't recommend it more.

If you are handy, you can keep a cheap grill running for about 4 years before replacement parts run up some $. Pay the man, get the weber & make sure its covered when not in use. If you can put it in a garage or shed in winter months that's even better.

me too.  Only complaint is the amount of film that develops on the inner roof of the grill and black flakes can fall down onto food.  I don't think this is uniquely Weber phenomenon, but seems bigger issue with this grill. Mine is 5 years old and still in great shape.

Not picking on you, but asking to the various people who have commented along the same lines - why do so many people not cover their grills when not using them

I have some.  Lately out of laziness of not picking up a new cover when the old news goes to crap.

My old cover is on my kettle grill now.

FYI for anyone in the market, Weber is apparently updating their Spirit and Genesis lines in 2017, so the current models are currently $100 off.

Buying a Genesis EP-330 tonight on my way home from work as I have been without a grill for the last 5-6 months ever since my Charbroil model rusted out after about 3 years. Been wanting to go back to a Weber so I had decided to make the plunge a few weeks ago, but had put off while trying to find out if there would be any offers around Labor Day (Ace hardware gave a $100 gift card around memorial day), but with the $100 off right now I'm making the plunge. Ads say the $100 off price is good through November or while supplies last.

I would guess you could get an even sweeter deal once the 2017 models come in and they are really trying to move out any remaining older models.

I am considering getting a Kenmore Elite 700 series grill.  I have been told that they are made by Weber and told that Kenmore is being sued by Weber for being too close to the same grill.  Wondering if anyone knows which is the truth.  The Kenmore appears to be the same quality for less than half the price.  Does anybody have any experience with Kenmore Elite grills?

That's not true. None of the Kenmore grills are made by Weber. It is true that Weber is suing Kenmore because they made grills similar in appearance to the Weber Genesis and Summit models. I've never owned a Kenmore but I doubt they are up to Weber's build quality.

Give me your city, and I will find you a great used Weber for half the price or less than that Kenmore "Elite"

Well yes, some are in terrible shape.  Don't buy those, and don't buy any without decent photos.

The one I linked (now expired) was in great shape, $50
