Looking for trip recomendations around San Diego (1 Viewer)

Wife and I are coming with a couple friends in July. Easy access to recreational drugs would be good. Any recs?
I might know a guy (Tommy) who knows a guy(Still Tommy. Just covering for him). Also lots of good footy bars if you want to catch a Euro or Copa game.

Oh man. I never thought about the fact that Copa/Euro was going to be happening during this. The male half of the couple we are going with is a guy that skipped work to meet up to watch all the US games with me at the WC and the guy I went to San Antonio with to watch US v Mex game last spring.

This is going to be glorious. And could lead to divorce. Definitely going to need to hook up with a guy who knows a guy.

Sebowski is more of soccer fan than I am, but I've watched a couple big games at Shakespeare's and the atmosphere was awesome.

Seconded... Very cool place. When I was with my old employer and hitting SD a lot, one of our lead engineers was English and "dragged" me here to watch a match one morning.

Flying out with the GF in a few hours. Staying at Hard Rock Gaslamp. Working thurs-sat.

Some plans:

- werewolf

- neighborhood (whiskey flights)

- nobu (happy hour)

- aero club (700+ whiskeys in dive bar!)

- stone brewing Liberty station

- PB shore club (patio sunset and maybe goldfish races)

- cass street bar for old times sake

- pizza port (gotta give it a shot)

- open bar (at some point)

- got roped into the "tacos tequila and tombstones" tour for one night by the GF From SoDiego Tours.

flying back out at ######## of dawn Sunday

Going to Vegas in a couple weeks to visit my sister and then me and the wife are driving to San Diego for a few days.

Tentative plan is to leave Vegas in the morning and make Temecula around noon for lunch and a few wine tastings.   Then stay in La Jolla for one night (Grande Colonial Hotel).  That will give us a little time in the afternoon and evening to check out La Jolla and the next morning to go to the beach and see the seals/sea lions.

Then we are going to drop the car off at the airport and take the shuttle to a hotel in the Gaslamp Quarter (the Westin).   From there we will either walk or take the trolley where we want to go.

One day we plan on going to Balboa Park and probably the other to check out the USS Midway Museum, Old Town, Little Italy, etc -- not sure which.   I definitely plan on hitting a couple breweries in the downtown area.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

So, I finally made all of my plans. I am staying in the Gaslight from Friday April 1 to Thursday April 7. I am hitting up the Padres game on Wednesday night. Plan to skip out of enough work to hit up a brewery tour in that span. Heading up to Temecula for 2 nights after that to drink wine.

Which Pizza Port did you make it to?  I'm at the OB Pizza Port every Tuesday.  You like that back patio at Stone Liberty Station?

Gaslamp.

I work in the East Village just a couple blocks from the Gaslamp so if you're up for a beer after work I can probably grab one either Tues or Wednesday, but I have to leave the city by ~ 5:15 to pick my kids up from after school programs, so it would have to be before that.

Otherwise, happy to answer any questions and/or provide any recommendations.

I should be able to get a beer Tuesday. I will let you know. That would be cool.

Hard to go wrong in this town on beer, but if you want to get into specifics let me know. Whether it's style preferences or maximizing distance/time.

Thanks Tommy.    We ended up going to Temecula for a few hours -- had a real good time.  Then went to La Jolla for the evening and next 1/2 day.   We really liked La Jolla quite a bit. The highlight was going to a restaurant called The Marine Room at high tide -- watching the surf hit the dining room windows was fantastic -- food was great too.

We went to Balboa Park and Little Italy and the Gaslamp Quarter.   I managed to hit a few breweries:  Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens - Liberty Station, Half Door, Bolt and another I can't recall off the top of my head.

All in all a great time in a beautiful city and wish we had a few more days.   The one down side was the number of homeless people sleeping on the streets at night.  Very sad to see people down on their luck like that.

Any specific Temecula wineries I need to hit up?
I really enjoy Leoness...great views, excellent dining.

Miramonte, South Coast, Wilson Creek (lots of flavored champagnes and decent champagne brunch here) and Ponte (great dining here also) are all pretty good as well.

My wife loves the fresh sourdough bread and crafts for sale at Maurice Car'rie.

Hit up Pechanga Casino while in Temecula.

And walk through Old Town...grab a decent burger at the prerequisite In n Out.

If you're up for some good breakfast...hit up Mo's Egg House.

Filippi's has pretty good pizza or check on Goat & Vine to see how long the wait is...they've got interesting pizzas.

If you're into some Pho...try Noodle House in Murrieta.

For a dessert treat, try Happy's Cafe.

Thanks. I suspect we will drink in Old Town Thursday and Friday.

Have you done the VIP tasting at Leoness?

Cool.

Thirsty Thursdays still get decent action in Old Town.

If you like country...go to Stampede.

If you like dance music...hit Blackbird Tavern.

If you like pretty decent karaoke...hit Lil's.  Get the onion rings.

If you like biker bars...hit Beer & Wine Garden.

If you like dive bars...hit Hard Hats (bikini)  or E.T.'s (shuffleboard/pool).

Luke's has the best view overlooking old town.

I've lived in San Diego for 14 years and I've never heard of any of tdoss' places except In n Out and Fillippi's, and I hate Filippi's

NTTAWWT This is one of the many reasons I love San Diego so much. There is something for everybody if you know where to look.

That's because I was referring to Temecula.

Cowboy, word of advice: tdoss is from a ####stain on the taint spot of Virginia, so I would put zero weight on his advice regarding wine.  Conversely, there isn't a man on these boards more qualified to give burger and breakfast diner advice.

I can't deny where I'm from (unlike Gunz)...but I do know how to get my drank on!

Strip joint real close to the airport.  Can't remember the name but they have early afternoon shows(talking noon).

I am in for beer. Wednesday would actually be best. I am going to the game later, so near the stadium is best.

This Wednesday is going to be nuts down there. A lot of Opening Week parties. I know the big booze industry one is Wednesday. I may be down there.

Bring your sorry ### downtown for a cold one or two.  I have to leave by 5:15 to get my kids before 6, but am hoping to squeeze one or two with Cowboy in before then.

The party is completely open bar with premium spirits until 5. Hard to pull away from something like that if I do make it down.

At the bar by the entrance

Great to meet you DC, enjoyed the brew.  Let me know next time you're in town and we'll grab beers at my beach neighborhood.

Glad getting drinks worked out.  It was fun.

I was going to ask, but forgot:

I found a watch on the street the other day. Do you know of anything local that people might post lost and found on?

Hmmm.  Can't say I've ever found anything of value, so I have no idea.
