Losing a dynasty.... (1 Viewer)

I lost a good friend (i would say, although we never meet) who was our dynasty commish of a 2 yr running dynasty.

With his passing im sure FF is the last thing his family wants to talk about period. And while he was our commish and collected moneys from several dynasty leagues, Im kinda really lost here. The money for next season which everyone in our league has been paid up, isnt as big of an issue as it is with the owners building there teams thinking dynasty.

My team was hit with injuries HARD last year but i look to bounce back this year.

We have an option of playing with NO PRIZE money for this year.

Or to disband the league.

I dont know if other teams would be willing to pay double for this season, some may not feel strong about there teams or have the funds.

I dunno maybe MFL can help us out.

Its a league with alot of dedicated owners.

Any ideas fellas on what us other 11 owners should do?

Please any help is appreciated.

I know this topic hits alot of his other leagues as well, cause i know many are up in the air about what to do right now.

Sorry to read about your friend and commissioner. My recommendation would be to ask for donations of any amount from your league members. Whatever gets donated becomes your prize pool for this year.

Good luck.

I am in another of his leagues and unfortunately had also paid for 09-10 season.

Any ideas are appreciated.

Donating the money sounds fine to me. Getting a consensus isn't always so easy though. I hope that some of the league members don't make it too difficult. Our league has a Treasurer as well as a Commissioner. Putting the onus on one person can be a lot.

The $600 for the 08-09 season is in their bank account and/or the family's PayPal account, it is not like we are going to try to collect, but I wonder if PayPal covers stuff like that under their insurance policies.

Never a great situation, but you can donate his league fees and the others can play for the remainder.

It also allows for a new person to step in and try and learn the league and his former team and manage it for free in Year 1.

Again, not a great scenario, but just an option that probably is viable for all.

Putting it up to a league vote may also be a good option as to what you donate or do going forward.

I also might suggest naming something associated with the league after the former owner (a trophy or a division or an award).

Good luck with the league.

I'm very sorry to hear about your friend, and sincerely hope you are able work through this tragedy.I'm a co-commissioner and treasurer of an online dynasty league. Let this go to show that anyone who handles money for a league like this, as undesireable as it may sound, owes it to their fellow leaguemates to at least make some sort of arrangements should something happen to them. I've instructed my wife (teenaged kids know about the instructions as well) that should anything happen to me, the money in this specified account is to be sent to the acting commissioner. I have the account numbers listed as well as the address of the commissioner, and his phone number. We had a league member pass away in the same dynasty league a couple years ago which prompted me to make these arrangements. Bill also passed away during the offseason (after our rookie draft, but before the season started), so we were in a similar boat as you. We renamed the league in his honor. We frose his roster, not allowing any waiver moves or trades. Additionally, each team took turns setting his lineup throughout the season (the commish had final say if something looked questionable - which didn't happen) with the idea should he win anything, the funds would be donated to his family.Your situation sounds a little more complicated with him being the commish. Best of luck.

Cocnept for you guys who pay a year ahead in dynasty.

Set up a joint credit union checking account for the league, and only that league, with the commish & the treasurer on it. If someone dies, is ill, etc. the other one can still get at the money.

I'm pretty sure PayPal considers any fantasy games to be gambling, which is prohibited under PayPal terms. Or at least it used to be.
