Lots of UFA RB in 2011...strategy talk for keeper leagues (1 Viewer)

For those of you that play in a league where you keep players and give up draft picks based on the round you drafted them...who are you targeting.

I had been pretty fortunate in the past with targeting guys like Michael Turner, Lamont Jordan, Chester Taylor who were in the last year of a contract and about to be free agents... For the past 2 years I have not been as successful, as guys like Darren Sproles/Chester Taylor/Leon Washington didn't pan out...

Who are you targeting as potential players who might be back-ups this year that could have a starting job next year, based on the fact they will be a free agent, or the starter in front of them might move on/retire, etc....

Here is a list of the Free Agent RBs for next sseason:

Player Name FA Status Previous Team

Joseph Addai UFA Indianapolis Colts

Deon Anderson UFA Dallas Cowboys

Jackie Battle UFA Kansas City Chiefs

Cedric Benson UFA Cincinnati Bengals

Ahmad Bradshaw UFA New York Giants

Michael Bush UFA Oakland Raiders

Kenneth Darby RFA St. Louis Rams

Heath Evans UFA New Orleans Saints

Kevin Faulk UFA New England Patriots

Quinton Ganther UFA Seattle Seahawks

Korey Hall UFA Green Bay Packers

Brad Hoover UFA Carolina Panthers

Brandon Jackson UFA Green Bay Packers

Steven Jackson UFA St. Louis Rams

Vonta Leach UFA Houston Texans

Brian Leonard UFA Cincinnati Bengals

Laurence Maroney UFA New England Patriots

Corey McIntyre UFA Buffalo Bills

Brit Miller RFA San Francisco 49ers

Sammy Morris UFA Miami Dolphins

Lousaka Polite UFA Miami Dolphins

Mike Sellers UFA Washington Redskins

Fred Taylor UFA New England Patriots

Leon Washington UFA Seattle Seahawks

DeAngelo Williams UFA Carolina Panthers

Eddie Williams RFA Chicago Bears

Ricky Williams UFA Miami Dolphins

Garrett Wolfe RFA Chicago Bears

Jason Wright UFA Arizona Cardinals

The one person that comes to mind as I look at this list is Donald Brown... If Addai were to move on next year, and I can see the Colts not re-signing him...he would definitely see a huge leap in production, and would far-outperform his draft cost this year.

As far as the players that will be FAs... not a lot of sneaky plays there... Some guys that have been okay or were supposed to be pretty solid, but if my memory serves, they never truly shined when they did get a chance (Brian Leonard, Brandon Jackson).

If DeAngelo leaves, Stewart could become a monster in Carolina. If Ricky is done...who gets the carries in Miami...especially with Ronnie Brown getting older...

Lot's of questions, and I will not profess to know all the players and situations well enough to extract who can benefit from these opportunities.

Who are you targeting, and what players could potentially go from mid-lower tier to top tier RBs next season...?

I think a lot will depend on the labor situation. If it's like this year, guys had to have played 6 years to be a UFA instead of 4 years. If that stays, that will limit some movement. And of course, there may be no football.

Fair point David. I pulled that UFA list from KFFL.com...which reflects the assumption that the 4th year players will be UFAs. Obviously all of that can change depending on a labor agreement that none of us can project. If we do assume that there is football, and that the players listed will indeed be UFAs, who stands to benefit?

If Williams goes somewhere else, then I think BOTH him and Stewart are easy top-10 RBs (possible top-5)

Thanks for that valuable dynasty/keeper info.

Seems to me maybe this info is in general more valuable from the perspective of the player that stays put and steps into the position of the player who left.

Meaning - you don't know what kind of situation the player that leaves will be going to.

Cashing out, or looking for ring, or actually good opportunity to thrive?

Another example of this is the Thomas Jones/Shonn Green situation.

Jones goes from RB4 to a backup. Didn't see that coming!

Fewer variables for the player staying under contract.
