Louisville University - any alum or attend? (1 Viewer)

My high school senior daughter is in the college selection process.  Anyone have any input on Louisville?

Currently live in WI and she has no real interest in any of the state schools.  Most of the kids stay instate and just disperse in different directions, but it seems like an extension of the high school crowd.

She's an honors student, top 5 or so in her class of 600+, with an ACT score of 28.  Pediatric nursing is her choice of major at the moment.

She recently toured Madison and Minnesota and didn't like either - more the size and atmosphere than anything else.

She did an informal tour of Louisville this past spring while driving through and really liked what she saw of the campus.  After doing some additional research, it seems like a decent school overall.  Even though out of state tuition is crazy - with her test scores, etc - it basically ends up the same cost as Madison.

She has already applied and been accepted to both Louisville and Winona State (at the advice of her guidance counselor).  Selfishly, I prefer Louisville vs anywhere in WI or MN, as the drive time is the same from Milwaukee to Minnesota University as it is to Louisville and the weather in Jan/Feb will be much better to visit.

Any alums on this board, or anyone attend Louisville and can offer any insight?

Just out of curiosity, if she wants to go out of state but seemingly doesn't care where, why wouldn't she look into the top Pediatric nursing schools in the country?

Part of it is logistics - while she wants to go out of state - she's still looking to be in the 5-6 hours drive from "home".  If you look at the national rankings, the "top" are mainly east and west coast based.

Secondly - the top of the top nursing schools, while she probably has the test scores and credentials to get accepted are crazy silly expensive.  Louisville does have a nursing school and is ranked above average.  As mentioned earlier, they are offering a scholarship package, which puts it on par with Madison in terms of cost.  John Hopkins, Duke or the other top nursing schools would easily be 50%+ more per year.

One thing about Louisville, there are quite a few top hospitals in the City as well...so maybe some opportunity to work /intern while studying.

No.

Honestly I have never heard of a top pediatric nursing program.  I have been a RN for almost 20 years.  Nursing school wherever she goes is only going to touch on the basics.  Where your daughter goes to work after college is much more important.

Thank you both!  This is the exact type of information I'm looking for.

First kid going through the college selection process and I know nothing about nursing.
