LSU Pro Day Results and Analysis (1 Viewer)

Landry is a lock to the Falcons. If he doesn't go earlier, that is.
I dunno. I stole some of your mock and weaved in some of my own picks/analysis to come up with my mock draft. I have Landry going higher.Done two days ago, prior to JaMarcus Russell’s Pro Day and before Kevin Curtis was signed by Philly but I’ll stand as is.

1. Oakland - Brady Quinn, QB, Notre Dame: The Raiders passed on Matt Leinart and Jay Cutler last year. It was later reported that Al Davis wanted Lienart. The Raiders new OC is Greg Knapp who has run a West Coast offense as a coordinator. Head Coach Lane Kiffin also is from the West Coast tree so Quinn would fit in more with the style of offense that will be used in Oakland. Additionally Al Davis is 77 years old and needs help walking around the Raiders facilities. He saw Lamar Hunt pass away before winning another Super Bowl so my guess is that he will opt for the more NFL ready and cerebral Brady Quinn over the physical prowess and long term upside of JaMarcus Russell. Of this writing the Raiders are reportedly in serious negotiations of trading WR Randy Moss to the Pack for QB Aarron Rodgers and a conditional draft pick which would mean the Raider take WR Calvin Johnson. I’ll stick with Quinn as of right now.

2. Detroit - Gaines Adams, DE, Clemson: Gaines Adams looks to be a special pass rusher. The Lions have installed the Tampa Bay Cover-Two defense which is predicated on getting pressure on the QB from the defensive line instead of from blitz packages. Kalimba Edwards failed in the role as a pass rusher last year. They moved Corey Redding inside and although they signed DE Dewayne White from the Bucs but they are missing the key pass rushing piece to complete the Tampa/Lion defense. Like the Raiders the Lions also passed on both Leinart and Cutler last year but unlike the Raiders their QB Jon Kitna had a productive year. Mike Martz also reportedly likes both of his young quarterbacks backing up Kitna. Martz is the only OC/HC in NFL history to take two waiver wire guys and turn them into Pro Bowlers in a three year time span so he doesn’t need to use a high pick on a QB and Russell doesn’t fit Martz’s offense at all so they pass on JaMarcus Russell.

3. Cleveland - JaMarcus Russell, QB, LSU: The abysmal state of the Browns quarterback situation should last only as long as the Browns bide time with Charlie Frye or Derek Anderson as Russell gets up to speed. The large investment placed in WR Braylon Edwards and TE Kellen Winslow Junior has floundered along with the rest of the Browns offense as it has finished rock bottom in scoring and second from last over the two years. The single most significant missing piece is a legit starting NFL QB. Not much was available in free agency but even so the Browns FO made no attempt to sign a starting QB. The front office has been guarded in statements concerning their QB situation as the team has apparently switched focus from RB Adrian Peterson to QB Brady Quinn. If Russell is there then he will be the selection. Russell is a stone cold physical freak with easily the best arm to enter the league since John Elway. The thing that sells me on JaMarcus is his escapability from pressure. He has an excellent feel for pressure and understands angles so he makes guys miss and then can kill a defense by effortlessly chucking the ball a mile and he is accurate improvising on the fly. Shades of Elway, definitely worth a high draft flyer as the payoff could be monumental.

4. Tampa Bay - Calvin Johnson, WR, Georgia Tech: The BPA of the draft falls into the Bucs lap at an area of one of their biggest needs and they didn’t have to move up to get him.

5. Arizona - Joe Thomas, OT, Wisconsin: The Cards also catch a lucky break as the player they covet and who fills their biggest need falls into their lap.

6. Washington - Jamaal Anderson, DE, Arkansas: Jamaal Anderson fills a need with the Skins and is a fair value here.

7. Minnesota - LaRon Landry, S, LSU: The Vikings pass on AP for the opportunity to upgrade their secondary. Brad Childress worked with S Brian Dawkins with the Eagles in Philadelphia so he knows the value of a menacing defensive back presence patrolling the secondary and intimidating receivers.

8. Houston - Adrian Peterson, RB, Oklahoma: I’m not sure what direction the Texans go at QB but AP is just too good to pass up. The signing of 30 year old Aahman Green would not dissuade the Texans from taking of Peterson.

9. Miami - Levi Brown, OT, Penn State: Glaring team need meets a blue chip talent, karma.

10. Atlanta - Alan Branch, DT - Michigan: The Falcons won’t reach for S Reggie Nelson to fill a big team need. They instead go BPA and take Branch.

11. San Francisco - Adam Carriker, DE, Nebraska: Perfect fit for scheme. The Niners also need wide receivers and might nab one here but they instead land a solid 34 DE.

12. Buffalo - Leon Hall, CB, Michigan: They lost Clements so Hall would fill that hole. They also could take RB Marshawn Lynch but a shut down CB is harder to come by.

14. Carolina - Reggie Nelson, S, Florida: Playmaking safety rising up draft boards.

15. Pittsburgh - Amobi Okoye, DT, Louisville: The Steelers want to make the switch to a 4-3 defense. Okoye can play both 3-4 DE and 4-3 DT. Perfect transitional player and a great long term talent and also a bargain here.

16. Green Bay - Marshawn Lynch, RB, California: The Pack has no starting RB since Aahman Green left. Lynch is an effective pass-catcher with great YAC ability. He fills a team need and fits nicely with Green Bay‘s WC offense.

17. Jacksonville - Ted Ginn Jr., WR, Ohio State: Too good to pass up here. The added bonus is that he also returns punts. The recent dismal first round wide receivers taken by Jacksonville won’t deter them from taking Ginn.

18. Cincinnati - . Lawrence Timmons, LB, Florida State: Bengals lost their starting inside linebacker so they replace him with an extremely productive LB who has been rising up draft boards.

19. Tennessee - Dwayne Jarrett, WR, USC: They have lost wide receivers and have not restocked. The Titans OC came from USC where he worked with Jarrett. USC RB LenDale White along with Dwayne Jarrett are already versed in the Titan offense and each can grow with Vince Young as he develops.

20. New York Giants - Paul Posluszny, LB, Penn State: The LaVar experiment failed. Posluszny is a sure tackling LB who will fit in with the G-Men.

21. Denver - Jarvis Moss, DE, Florida: Denver needs help on the defensive line so they reach a bit here but land the top ranked DE left on the board.

22. Dallas - Robert Meachem, WR, Tennessee: How long can TO last? They need to start grooming his replacement. Meach could be a fine compliment as he learns on the job.

23. Kansas City - Joe Staley, OT, Central Michigan: Willie Roaf’s eventual replacement. A bit of a reach which will take a year possibly being massaged in at OG but he should fill some big shoes at OLT next year. I'm not sold on Black at OLT.

24. New England (from Seattle) - Patrick Willis, LB, Ole Miss: They signed Aldalius as their outside pass rusher but Teddy Bruschi and company aren’t getting any younger on the inside.

25. New York Jets - Chris Houston, CB, Arkansas: Solid prospect, fills need.

26. Philadelphia - Dwayne Bowe, WR, LSU: Physical WR who tore up the Senior Bowl. Dwayne should fit with the current Iggle WR corps. (note: this was prior to Kevin Curtis being signed)

27. New Orleans - Darrelle Revis, CB, Pittsburgh: Solid prospect that matches glaring need on team.

28. New England - Greg Olsen, TE, Miami (Fla.): They lost Graham and replaced him with Kyle Brady but Kyle is a one-dimensional blocking TE. Olsen is more of a pass catcher who flew up some draft boards after his blistering Pro Day. The Pats used a high second round pick on an the athletic Ben Watson and could envision a perfect compliment to Watson and the new receivers acquired by NE.

29. Baltimore - Aaron Ross, CB, Texas: Ozzie is a slave to BPA so the Rats take the BPA CB over a lesser ranked offensive lineman where the team need would be better met.

30. San Diego - Steve Smith, WR, USC: The Bolts need help at WR as Keenan McCardell has left. Smith playing opposite Dwayne Jarrett was overlooked and may be underrated.

31. Chicago - Jon Beason, LB, Miami (Fla.): Ungoing holdout issues with Lance Briggs can be addressed here.

32. Indianapolis - Justin Harrell, DT, Tennessee: Indy had the worst run defense in the league last year. They could use help inside plugging the lanes and covering up those undersized speed guys in Dungy’s defensive scheme. Harrell would pair with Anthony ‘Booger’ McFarland to form a solid base to the Colts defense.
