LT to get more touches this year. (1 Viewer)

Saw on Football Friday on ESPN that Norv Turner wants to get LT even more touches this year. 5-10 more per game, not carries though. Thats 80-160 points extra just for the catches. I don't know how realistic that is, but worth mentioning. Hard to bump him any further up as he's already going #1 in any regular draft, but in a PPR auction league I think you have to. Also I think you might have to bump Rivers a bit here.

You think LT catching 80-160 MORE passes this year might be unrealistic? :goodposting: Would be very surprised if the Chargers didnt rest LT this year as much as possible, with Michael Turner heading into FA, and the possiblity of tagging him and trading him in the offseason.

Damn, I passed on him for Westbrook at #1 (PPR, and I've been told Leonard is going to get 15 touches/game) and really regret it now that I know he's going to get an extra 80-160 catches this year.

:goodposting:

That is the most idiotic thing I've ever heard. The most important thing for the Chargers is for LT to remain healthy throughout the season and hopefully deep into the post-season. They have enough depth at RB to have that luxury.

This is really good news for Turner owners. The wheels will fall off the LT train by week 10.

Good point you make. May be what happens, but contrary to what is being said. Either way, I don't think Defenses are going to adjust anything based upon what is said by Turner. You game-plan for LT, Period. As far as the rest of you, bring on the beat down, my skin is thick enough. Just posting something I hadn't read anywhere else on here. Every miniscule piece of info on every player is on this forum, so why wouldn't a statement made by the coach on the #1 player in the league be on here. Just take it for what it's worth, probably nothing. Coming from somebody that drafted LT, I am happy to see that they are not talking about spelling him, just the opposite in fact. I think the $9 over S.Jackson was worth it in my $200 auction, and I still got him for under the AAV.

Well, 9 out of 10 owners in my league agree that I paid too much for him. That's true of every auction league though. I guess I'll just have to find the "LT Owners Support Group". We can all get together and talk about all the pains of owning the best player in the league :potkettle:

I just think its funny that the runaway consensus #1 pick in every draft in America just got better.

I may be going out on a limb a little here, but I think I'm going to bump him up my list. :nerd:

granted, 80-160 more per year is way out of line, but does anybody think Westbrook type reception numbers are possible? That would only be 1-2 more per game. I think that is possible.

I plugged in 77 receptions (Westbrooks total for last season) and then 699 yds receiving (tomlinson's y/c from last season x 77) in the Dominator. It changed his value from $76 to $85, at least with our league scoring format. That is $1 under the average what he is going for in $200 auctions. It's also $17 higher than the $68 value for S. Jackson. If it is possible that LT can achieve Westbrook type receiving numbers (not saying he will, but he could) than yes, you would bump the consensus #1...at least for auction draft.

On a side note, Turner was brought in to replace "Marty Ball". He also desperately wants validation as a head coach. Anything less than a Super Bowl ring will mean failure with the roster he has been handed. If the folks in San Diego were sick and tired enough of the Marty Ball to bring in Turner, I would expect an increase in LT receptions as well as all San Diego receivers. The Dominator has LT projected at 61/500/3. Compare that to last year's numbers at 56/508/3, and I just don't see it.

From the "Chargers Training Camp" post:

"2. While Michael "The Burner" Turner has established himself as the best back-up Running Back in the NFL and could easily start for countless teams around the league, it was unfortunate to see that his receiving skills are nowhere near as developed as his bruising running style. He dropped a very catchable ball out of the backfield, and on several occasions let the ball get into his chest rather than catching it out in front with his hands, which will make it harder for him to secure theball if he gets hit quickly by a defender."

"An interesting LT quote regarding the new offense under Turner.....

LT believes that he will have EVEN MORE catches out of the backfield under Turner. "That's why I spent the off-season making sure I was in shape, to run those pass routes," said Tomlinson, who believes he should have "70-plus catches and 315 carries""

Honestly, can LT really handle an even bigger load? He's already a high mileage vehicle as it is.

Riddle me this Batman, if LT is going to be used even more this year, then why is Turner still in town? Are the Chargers really going to pay him $2.35 million to sit on the bench as a contingency plan? Are the Chargers that certain that they're going to run LT into the ground in the very near future?

Since when has LT been a self-promoter? He is regarded as one of the most humble players in the league. He has nothing to prove to anybody. If he says he'll get 70+ catches this year, why would you doubt him? It's not like this talk is coming from Ocho-Cinco. Every year LT sets a lofty goal for himself, and every year he attains it. Last year it was TDs, maybe this year it's receptions. Just speculating here.

I agree with this completely. LT's career average is 66 catches per season (to go along with 342 carries). 70 catches in 2007 is not only doable, but is highly likely. Looking at his career stats, I found one that jumped out at me. I don't know if it's a trend, but I found it kinda interesting. He has played 6 seasons. In his first 3, he increased his ypc from 3 to 4 to 5. Then he dipped back down to 3, then 4, then 5. BTW - 2007 will be the year he breaks that trend.LT's average season so far is 342 carries for 1529 yards (4.5ypc), and 66 catches for 483 yards (7.3ypc) and 18.5 TD's. I'd say his floor is about a 20% dropoff from his career average, putting him at 1610 total yards and 15 total TD's. That is simply amazing, considering that is the ceiling for most RB's in the league.

rest the best player in the NFL  ,right :bs:
