Former Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck, the projected No. 1 overall pick in April's NFL draft, has been training with quarterback guru George Whitfield.

who is george whitfield?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Whitfield_Jr.

in no way am i trying to demean this man's abilities, but reading that i cannot see how he suddenly came to be considered a QB guru who can improve Luck, who is so often touted as one of the best prospects ever.

I am fascinated by how one becomes a Quarterback guru.

"Former collegiate standout and Cincinnati Bengals first round draft pick Akili Smith looked to Whitfield to help revitalize his slumping career."

Well, he does have that on his resume.

I'm not sure who he is (other than the information readily available), but from what I understand Luck is working with him on a few small adjustments, nothing major like what Newton went to him for.

Newton's doing all right.
yeah, but this guy worked with him pre combine, was it this guy or his QB coach at the panthers that helped?
Both more than likely helped Cam improve. Cam also helped Cam improve, I'd suspect.

He's helped a lot of guys, including Ben Rothlisberger:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WxA1U4Cp70He's a very credible QB coach and considered one of the top handful of QB gurus out there. I've learned a good amount about him as he has some Ohio State connections.
