Luke Willson (1 Viewer)

Is there any reason to hope that he could get 85+ targets.   That's what Ebron had and he was a huge disappointment the last two seasons

I don't see any threat on that depth chart to Willson, and honestly I see Detroit's offense as so much more calm than Russell Wilson's mad scramble running for his life every play hoping someone works open Seattle offense.

So I guess is it to hopeful to suggest Luke Willson as a sneaky sleeper mediocre but useful tight end?  Is he worth even a flier pick in a 12 team, 24 person roster dynasty league?

For a 12 team 24 person roster I would say yes, as long as you have one or two TE on your roster that are proven. I plan to take a flyer on Willson in a 28 person dynasty, but I have ertz and kittle on the roster. I like his athletic profile more than Ebrons, and the Lions used a single TE set i wanna say ~75% of the time in recent years. So good opportunity for Willson, but a lot of mouths to feed in Detroit. Consider him a 'deep sleeper' and only take him if you have a spare roster spot.

I'm not sure Willson is the starter in Detroit. They also have Michael Roberts and Levine Toilolo. I think its very possible all 3 guys play close to equal snaps, and if I were to pick 1 to pull away, it'd likely be Roberts.

How many TE's are owned in your league? I probably have Willson around TE40 or so.

There are 37 TEs owned currently in the league so yeah by your standards he's boarder line ownable.

Honestly my team was purchased as a bad orphan and despite nailing a lot of picks over the past 3 years (fournette, cook, Howard (who I traded for A Cooper before last season :( ), Ajayi, Henry Hunter,  Truisby...) the top teams are so loaded I can't compete yet.

My team was loaded with a lot of mediocre vetran weight like DJax, Maclin, A Gates and so forth...  And since it's looking like I can't compete seriously this season I have cut/traded it all away for what I could and am loading up on younger fliers trying to rebuild.  But gems are hard to find, thus the Willson interest.

Ebron (86) and Fells (27) combined for 113 TE targets last year for the Lions - that's about 7 targets/game. Another thing to consider is the Lions invested heavily into the running game this offseason (signed Blount for short yardage, draft Johnson in the 2nd round, drafted center Ragnow in the 1st round, get starting LT Decker back from injury) and I'd expected the Lions to be more committed to the running game this year. In turn, Stafford's passing attempts should decrease a little. I'll say the TE targets drop from 7/game down to 6/game or 96 targets or the season.

As already mentioned, I see Wilson competing with Roberts for targets. Wilson should be the #1 but Roberts will see playing time and has red zone ability. I have a tough time see Wilson getting in the end zone too. The Lions have red zone receiving options between MJones, Golladay, Roberts plus goal line RB in Blount. I'd say a best case scenario for Wilson would be something like 64 targets for 48 catches for 500 yds and 2-3 TD's. I don't see him as anything more than a reserve FF TE. If any of the Lions TE's are a sleeper or breaks out it'll be Roberts like was already mentioned.
