Mad Men's Matthew Weiner to remain at Sterling Cooper

AMC has known for a few months that their Emmy-winning Mad Men would be back for a third season; the future for showrunner Matthew Weiner, though, wasn't as certain. But according to the Hollywood Reporter, Weiner and Lionsgate—who produce Mad Men for AMC—have struck a two-year, seven-figure deal to keep the show's creator around. He will oversee everything in the Sterling Cooper–verse for the upcoming season, work on "new projects," and take on a possible full-length feature for Lionsgate. (It won't be a Mad Men movie, sadly.)

The two-year deal, strangely, doesn't include a fourth season order of the universally lauded period drama. But unless the show ties up all its loose ends come next year (… and other impossibilities), it's likely there'll be more Pete Campbell—but still no Chauncey—come June 2010.

This is the next show I'm catching up on. I'm about four episodes into season 1. I haven't read any posts in here to prevent spoilers, but I just wanted to say that as a recovering chain smoker, this is a BRUTALLY tough show to watch! I want to go out tomorrow and buy 5 cartons of Marlboro's.

:sadbanana:

Almost done with season 1. Good Lord the red head "Joan" is soooooo freakin sexy.
Are you watching this on DVD? I don't see season 1 available OnDemand?how many DVD's is it? Would very much like to see this as well.
Hey Payne... I grabbed 'em from here:http://hotfilms.org/tv-shows-series/rs-com...-psp-98519.html

I have a Rapidshare Premium account. Downloaded the entire season in less than 15 minutes. Then you simply extract the files and play on VLC or Real Player. The quality isn't great, but beggars can't be choosers. I have seen some season 2 links which are in HD, so that season will be much better quality.

How come Don doesn't seem to be into his wife at all? Betty is beautiful, she is obedient, she is pleasant and she is a good mother. Why would he be having affairs with skanks who are nowhere near as good looking as she is? Is he simply bored with her?

*NOTE* I am only halfway through season 2, so if the answer is revealed in an upcoming episode, feel free to ignore this question.

This is part of it. You also have to remember that he came from nothing and is determined to have more. Maybe that extends to women as well. Maybe trying to prove something to himself. You'll also notice that he is attracted to women that very different than Betty. Midge, the beatnik artist...Rachel the Jewish department store owner...Bobbie Barrett the agent/manager. All of them are independent and/or powerful.

I really enjoy this show, but the 2nd season is so much darker than the 1st. There are some really uncomfortable moments. I am at the point where Don is kicked out of the house (S2,E8) and I have the same thoughts as RN.Betty is stunningly gorgeous. Joan is quite a looker. Don's new secretary (Peyton List) is mind-blowing too. Send me back to the 60's dammit!

Okay, well there's one episode I won't have to watch.

Whoops. My interpretation of your post led me to assume you had reached this point. Considering your question, I think you could see this coming.

No worries, GB. You know that Betty is the chick Stiffler was peeping on in American Wedding, right? She's so hot.

 some of it's also that she buys into all that he sells through advertising which he views a being weak/dumb. He basically views advertising as telling ignorant people what to buy, so anyone who buys what he's selling is ignorant (this was highlighted in the Heinekein or whatever beer it was episode she wanted to serve at their dinner party). Midge doesn't fall for any of the advertising while the other two know its all a big charade.

Okay, I'm all caught up with the rest of y'all. What a fantastic show.

Betty humping the stranger in the bar came as no surprise to me. Being pregnant, she needs Don financially if for nothing else. The only way she could live with Don (and herself) was to become Even Steven with him. That dude was in the right place at the right time!

I dreamed that it was August 10, and the season premiere was on. Sadly, January Jones wasn't featured.

Just getting into this - love it. The audio commentary is pretty hit-or-miss. Much prefer the commentary from writers & directors to the ones from the actors.

Just finished the second season. Joan my have just passed Megan Fox on my list of things to do. What talent. Those hips can sink ships.

This show makes me look differently at old people.

Before, when I saw some loud, cranky guy complaining, I would roll my eyes.

But now, I think, hey that 84 year old guy could be Don Draper.
