I know we're just taking stabs. I thought the John Maine and Arod ones are nutty.Do you really feel that way? The idea is to post random predictions, not far fetched ones. Anyway, just curious cuz I know you know your baseball stuff.

James Shields wins 17 games.

Bob Howry gets 30 saves.

Juan Pierre steals 60 bases.

ETA: I own none of them.

*Miguel Cabrera will have a MONSTER year, MVP

*Polanco WILL commit an error this season

*Detroit Tigers win at least 100 games

~~~yes, I know! I still claim (can't prove to any of you, of course) that I've been a Tiger fan for over 30 years...& I'm more excited about this season than I've been at any time since being a baseball fan (1975, for any of you scoring at home).
:shock:
NL -
Billingsley leads the Dodgers in wins. Broxton emerges as closer by mid-season. D-backs run away with division behind Webb and Haren. Pena is closer by mid-May at the latest.
Brewers self-destruct despite all the hype they realize their pitching staff isn't much better than any of the other staffs in the Central.
Braves and Phillies leave the Mets out in the cold as Johan doesn't adjust to new league and large media market.
AL -
Red Sox run away with division, Yanks struggle - push Joba into a starting role and ruin his career.
Detroit wins World Series, Cleveland takes wildcard. Franklin Guttierez emerges as a stud outfielder.
Harden surprises everyone by staying healthy and winning Cy Young.
- The Rays finish at .500 or better
- Geovany Soto will win the NL RoY
- The Orioles set a new league record for losses in a season
E. Bedard will win AL Cy Young
R. Weeks will lose his leadoff roll for the Brewers (again)
M. Tejada wins comeback player of the year
Prince Fielder will use a bat made of chocolate....
Prince Fielder will eat Zambrano's cheese...
Prince Fielder will denounce his thrown
(im not funny, but i try)
chonically injured theme:
Rich Harden stays healthy all year
Mark Prior looks horrible and finally retirees
Blalock will spend more time on the DL than on the field
Joe Crede will win comback player of the year
Gary Sheffield will play less games this season than last
MELKY CABRERA WILL BE ALL STAR WORTHY!
I'll attempt to guess all Cy Young and MVP candidates before the season here for posterity's sake.
NL Cy Young:
Carlos Zambrano
AL Cy Young:
Erik Bedard
NL MVP:
Matt Holiday
AL MVP:
Alex Rodriguez (Although David Ortiz is more deserving, he is slighted for being a DH)
Random:
Pujols opts for season ending elbow surgery August 1st with the Cards out of the playoff race
Arizona finishes a distant third in the NL West
The Tigers fail to make the playoff's
CC Sabathia becomes a very wealthy man in the offseason
The Rays finish with 75 wins...and Rays fans rejoice in the offseason as they stock up on young talent for next year's "run"
Worst record in baseball - SF Giants. Best record in baseball - Cleveland Indians
Someone signs Barry Bonds a few months into the season (Detroit Tigers in a desperation move when Sheffield's elbow falls off)
1. Indians win the AL Central
2. Indians win the AL pennant
3. Indians win the World Series
It is time for the city of Cleveland to get a championship.
1. Jim Leyland violates league rules when he is caught up in an illegal NASCAR gambling ring. Tigers miss the playoff by 1.5 games.
2. Mid 70's Joe Torre sex video surfaces involving a midget :thumbdown: The distraction is LA is too much. Dodgers fail to make the playoffs and Torre ponders retirement.
3. Ryan Howard hits a bunch of homers.
:popcorn: I laugh because both might come true. Also a lot of Bedard lovers around here. Color me a pessimist on that front.
1. The Reds finish top 5 in the NL in ERA, and still don't make the playoffs.
2. Chase Utley hits more HR than Ryan Howard.
3. Matt Cain leads the NL in ERA.
1) Both NY teams miss the playoffs
2) Texierra is the NL MVP
3) Playoff teams:
NL-Phillies, Brewers, Rockies, & Braves
AL- Red Sox, Indians, Mariners, & Tigers( 1/2 game over Jays)
1. Tampa Bay will lead the East for a short time during the year
2. The Reds will finish at or above .500
3. Josh Hamilton is this years Carlos Pena
Prince Fielder will use a bat made of chocolate....Prince Fielder will eat Zambrano's cheese...Prince Fielder will denounce his thrown (im not funny, but i try)
It was a good attempt... I don't get why people always give Fielder the fat jokes, he's a vegetarian. Also he has already denounced his Dad so isn't that like denouncing the thrown? Eh, what do I know I'm the guy whose yahoo league name with his friends is Cecil Fielder's ###.
I would say at the same age, Cecil was more athletic than Prince. Cecil certainly balooned in the mid 90's and traded some years going to home plate to hang out with the dinner plate. But at least Cecil came up playing a little OF and 3B. I'm encouraged to hear Prince is looking at the vegetarian life because I could definately see him eating himself into trouble.
I don't think Prince's new-found vegetarian lifestyle will provide any benefit to his fantasy owners...only bad things, and less muscle can come from it...luckly for us, I give him two weeks, if hasn't dropped it already...
1. Rafael Furcal has a career year
2. Bobby Crosby finally lives up to the hype
3. Dice K wins the AL Cy Young
You know they do make powdered protein and weight gaining bars correct? This is 2008 not 1908.
Cubs fans certainly know.
Royals fan here....
3 Team predictions
-Royals go 81-81, finishing ahead of the 'Sox and right behind the Twins.
-A's, Giants and Orioles all lose 100.
-Boston does not win the East...and neither do the Yanks -- try the B'Jays.
3 Individual predictions
-Billy Butler and Alex Gordon each hit 20 HR, with Butler close to 30.
-Pedro has a great comeback, winning 13 games and pitches Mets to the postseason.
-Yunel Escobar hits .325, and just misses the NL Batting crown.
