I wouldn't bother clicking on a story like this except I found the "reveal" intriguing. I can't find any article however stating what evidence was presented other than the girl saying he did it, 10 years ago. Is that really enough? How do we know the girl isn't the one that's a whack job? I guess heresy and conjecture are kinds of evidence.

I guess it would come down to who was more credible in this case. Which is really always the case in this situations where a sexual assault gets reported so many years later. The one problem I have is the lack of other accusers. If he is a predator with a predilection for very young girls it's hard to believe he stopped at just one. Not impossible of course but no very usual.

You have to think there is more to the story. Seems hard to believe a jury would convict just based on that.

Things really have changed in the era of this religious right dominating the courts.

In court, she must have been able to identify/confirm revealing marks and such on and/or near his private parts. There had to be more evidence than this essay and he said/she said.

But the prosecutor pointed to more evidence than the teenager’s words alone.

When Tarrats was questioned after his 2012 arrest, he recalled one night when his stepdaughter entered his bed and grabbed his genitals, causing him to cry himself to sleep.

Kurtaya argued that is implausible.
I tend to take the victims word on these. However I think it's also worth remembering that some of the time the victim isn't really a victim. This one seems pretty light on anything beyond he said she said. Of course they often are. And really again a one time incident with one victim is not the usual profile. Once they start they usually go back for more. I just don't know with this one. But I wasn't in court I didn't hear and see everything so I guess we hope the jury got it right.

Me too and I agree with the rest of your post as well. It's a very unusual story to say the least.

I sure as heck hope so. Call me crazy but I'm fine with being on jury duty, which I was one time. I believe I would want people like me on a jury if I was ever tried.
