Manning & Addai (1 Viewer)

this is possibly useless info, but thought I would share for those who didn't hear the interview yesterday with Archie manning on sportingnews radio

Basic gist was that Manning (Peyton) is very impressed with Addai's game, work ethic, attitude, etc. More interesting, i thought, was that Archie indicated Addai and Manning were connecting off the field as well. He indicated that Addai had been to peyton's for dinner few times. For Addai owners, I think this is a good sign and could be pretty telling in what could happen with the rock early on, but we'll see how perseason goes.

Maybe Peyton invites everyone over, but I still thought it could be something to think about...take it for what it's worth I guess.

We all know Peyton likes to form a chemistry with receivers, and his RBs, so it looks like that has already begun, well before camp, per his father.

Not me. :kicksrock:

The "beginning" of the triplets of Maning-edge-harrison was them working off the field all the time on their chemistry.

this is definitely good news for addai folks (like me).

Archie used to live in New Orleans. He and Eli played at Ole Miss and Archie with the Saints. Peyton at Tennessee. Maybe its just a bunch of good ole Southern boys talking up SEC Football.

I would see this as a bigger deal for a WR and a QB. A RB has to hit the hole, see an opening, make a linebacker miss, run for daylight, block when needed, and catch a few passes if used on 3rd down. Most of that is instinct and ability. You have it or you don't. And before you start screaming that I'm a Rhodes owner (I am) but at my Rookie/FA draft this weekend there is about a 98% likelihood that I'm taking Addai with the two. This news doesn't make me want to do it anymore but I'm still doing it....

A RB can be a QBs best friend when he is picking up the blitz on a passing situation. Especially if it's to his blind side.

 Edge practiced with Manning and Harrison for a specific reason. Plus, Manning's play fake is key to his game - the RB (not the QB) sells the fake handoff.

My point is also that Peyton likely has some influence in who gets time...i.e., who he is "more comfortable with". Time off the filed would likely lead to a higher comfort level.I own Rhodes as a keeper as well, and am certain I will have to stretch to get Addai, likley before I should, but he won't last long enough to wait.

THE NEWS

The Colts will report to training camp Sunday, but as of Thursday they had not signed a single one of their seven picks from April's draft—including first-rounder Joseph Addai, who is expected to contend for significant carries this season. Addai's agent met with the Colts Tuesday, and while the Indianapolis Star characterized the talks as substantive, a deal was not imminent.

Our View

Indy kicked off a three-day minicamp for rookies Wednesday, and you have to imagine it was a pretty low-key affair without a single draft pick in the fold. However, missing the rookie camp pales in comparison to a prolonged holdout, which would significantly damage Addai's chances of squeezing current starter Dominic Rhodes out of the picture.

Seriously, why is it the Colts can NEVER get their #1 into camp in time??

Key veteran leader taking time to mentor a rookie. As the guy on offense, it is standard operating procedure for Manning to extend his hand in some fashion to an offensive rookie. I don't read anything deeper into the dinner than that. It would be no different than a guy like Ray Lewis taking another high profile and potential starting defensive rookie to lunch.

There is a hell of a lot of pressure on Addai and Manning is doing his job, as a team leader, to help the kid out. Pretty standard locker room stuff.

I've been pretty high on Addai this summer, but a lengthy holdout would definitely change my mind.

Edge held out a long time as a rookie seven years ago and still ended up playing a ton (and quite well), but I'm afraid Addai is no Edge.
