Manningham. Is it time to dump him? (1 Viewer)

since this is a brown vs manningham debate......

fyi - pats just cut cb bodden, and placed rookie cb dowling on IR.

we are left with 2nd year cb mccourty, and arrington -- who had been promoted off special teams to starter last year.

I believe vontae davis is out for miami.

.Jimmy Wilson. The rookie seventh round draft pick is expected to start this week at cornerback for the Dolphins, in place of the injured Vontae Davis.
Making things now even more difficult is putting Sanders into the mix here. Few things I'm struggling with since I can start any one of those guys:1. NE / PIT SHOULD be a high scoring game or at least PIT is going to have to pass a lot with NE. Plus NE lost another DB.

2. I have Mike Wallace so start two PIT WR and put all eggs into one basket? Are we convinced even that Brown is the play over Sanders?

3. Manningham legit WR2 but will going against a horrible MIA defense generate many pts for NYG WR?

4. Jacobs is back

5. NY weather right now is horribly which I'm thinking leads to them running the ball more, get the lead and rely on the run.

All said, looks like Manningham, Sanders, Brown have positives and negatives going into Sunday, I'm just racking my brain in who I should start.
For you, I actually think it would be better to start Wallace and Brown. No way NE shuts down the PIT passing game, but if they do try to take away Wallace, I see Brown having a huge game. Sanders starting would have no impact on whether Id start Mario vs. Brown.Jacobs doesnt worry at all. Its not like Im counting on Mario to get a TD within 5yards. You had me scared for a minute with the weather thing, but they snow is all overnight and tomorrow the forecast is 45 degrees and no snow/rain. I knew NE's DBs were hurt, but I didnt realize Vontae Davis was out. Thats huge for Manningham as it means Sean Smith is on Nicks and Mario gets whoever their #3 CB is

Thanks. I've been thinking Manningham vs Brown now all week so I've decided to not even put Sanders in the mix. The weather is supposed to be good by game time tomorrow so you're right that shouldn't be an issue. Doesn't NYG still like to run a lot though? My only concern with starting Manningham is NYG defense creates scores or short scores and their RB scores basically having a large enough lead where they won't throw it much. Ugh. I think I am going to go with Brown. At least we know that NE will score and probably a lot and I can't see a situation where PIT will run a lot and keep the score low.

Not to change the subject from "Manningham vs Brown" :)

But what about Manningham vs Garcon?

Would most play Manningham or Garcon?

Not on in my area, but I did see the highlights.. :)

Most sites have the 2 ranked very very very close, I wanted others thoughts.

I had this problem too. In fact I dumped Garscon for Brown. Garson had two monster games back-to-back but ottherwise he has been atrocious. 3 points last week. i can't risk that.So now I'm back to Manningham vs. Brown. Ready to throw a dart or pick a name out of a hat. Heck I'm even considering Torrey Smith.

Eli has thrown 2+ TD's in 6 of his last 8 games at the Meadowlands. If Manningham is going to turn it around this season, right now looks like a great buy low opportunity. He's healthy, getting targets, and has had numerous just misses in the red zone of late.

And still has yet to post his first TD of the season. He isn't finishing the season with 0 TDs. Just saying. These things come in bunches.

shoulda had the 25 yarder the cruz had. eli hit him nicely in the end zone on the prior play and he couldnt handle it. a tough catch, but certainly makeable.

Nice game for Manningham and gives us owners a little hope going forward. The targets have remained high so that's a good sign as well.

Eli had a very nice game, at least five easy drops by different Giants receivers

Cruz looked really sharp today as well - I think all three Giants wideouts should be starting in 12 teams 3 WR formats

manningham should be a prized possession at this point, esp with nicks suffering a dreaded hamstring tweak.

Had some balls today and put Mario in instead of Fitz.It may have been stupid but it paid off.
I had him in, then pulled him back out. I did the same with Chris Johnson over Sjax. :bag:
wait isn't the point of this thread that you cut him cuz he sucks and gave himself a concussion? Now he's back on your team?
Multiple leagues. I got him as a throwin when I acquired a different player.

This guy is such a freakin BUM! Fool me once, shame on you.... fool me eight times, shame on me.

It ends right now.
Tough week. No one is getting anything in that game.
Yep, Eli only threw for 250 which is below avg vs. the Patsies. Knowing Nicks was out, I have a feeling they focused on Mario more than usual as well. He still was tied for 22nd in targetsSidenote: Ballard looks good. Im set at TE in my leagues, but Id pick him up if I didnt have a top 6-8 TE

Manningham also caused a couple of huge pass interference calls in the game that may have connected for long passes.

Yeah, I was expecting a lot more from him today, but I'll settle for a couple catches and a touchdown.
I took FBGs rankings to heart and benched V. Jackson for Manningham this week...oops! could have used those points as I faced the Julio owner. I guess I will go back to the "always start your studs" theory.

I've started him all year as a WR3 and he's just not very good. He drops any tough catch.

His opportunities are the only thing keeping him in my lineup.

I'm with you. He has started for me every week he's played, generally over Harvin or Crabtree. I just feel he offers more upside.

ya i can distinctly remember 5 tough to very tough drops that would have been huge plays. id still expect his best days to be ahead of him. eli is playing awesome and he is the no2. he is still getting 7+ targets a game.

Another example of Mario's knuckleheadedness:

FOXBOROUGH - Mario Manningham nearly went from hero to goat in the few seconds it took for an official to throw a yellow flag in his direction. With 3:03 left, he caught a 10-yard touchdown pass that put the Giants up 17-13.

But when he celebrated by taunting Patriots cornerback Kyle Arrington, out came the flag. That pushed the Giants 15 yards back on the ensuing kickoff, giving the Patriots a head start on their next drive starting at their own 36.

"I felt like they were looking for a reason to throw a flag," Manningham said. "And I gave them a reason to throw a flag."

Two weeks in a row with TDs. These things come in bunches.

I still suspect a big game coming. He has had multiple games with near misses on having monster games. Still plenty of criticism in the firepot that is New York.

Also, regarding his boneheaded-ness. These guys are football players, and WRs to boot. Not rocket scientists. Not many Harvard grads out there (although you would expect more from a Michigan Man). Luckily, this is fantasy football and leagues usually dont penalize players for flags.

Expect another good week this week....

Saber, so far so good - true? Late season push - when you need it most?

per Mike Garafalo (via twitter):

The Giants added WR Mario Manningham to the injury report with a knee injury. He's listed as questionable. No clue what the deal is.

Per Rotoworld:

The Giants have added Mario Manningham to the injury report with a knee issue, listing him as questionable for Sunday against the 49ers.

It's likely Manningham suffered the injury in Friday's practice. The fact that he's listed as questionable instead of probable suggests he's dealing with more than just a simple nick. The Giants don't play until 4:15 ET, so it's quite possible you will have to make a start/sit decision based on incomplete information. With Hakeem Nicks also ailing, the Giants could be forced to lean on Victor Cruz and Jake Ballard in the passing game.

That's not good. I hate the late week downgrade. Looks like I might have to insert Decker or Damian Williams into the lineup now over Mario. Have to keep an eye on this.

This is why you always need to work on those last few roster spots on your squad though. I'd hate to have to trot out Donald Driver or some such.

Was debating on Manningham or Harvin all week. This makes the decision easy. I've started Manningham every week he's played, so I had some fear that he would go off for a huge game the one week I sit him.
