Manti Te'o's girlfriend who died... (2 Viewers)

After reading the transcript and the Ashley York blog linked in another thread, I believe what Manti is saying. He's still an idiot but plenty of people are. Who knew people did stuff like this?

Ow i read that whole transcript. No way he was in on the hoax. There was a TON of detail and the story sounded almost EXACTLY the same as that Ashley York story in the blog.

Ok...My question is this: If Manti's story is true, than there is a girl. Yeah, many of the details are wrong, but he said he talked to her every night and went to sleep talking to each other. I don't know a single girl who would spend every single night doing this. I wonder if it's even possible that the girl he was talking to kind of "fell for him", which is why she contacted him again and then tried to see him at the NC game. It could be one of those weird things where she was in it for fun, but then fell in love.I mean seriously who sits there and spends that much time talking to a guy for a prank. Wasting every single night of a four-five month period on the phone with him? Seems ridiculous. He also seems like a complete idiot for never making an attempt to meet her. The "oh well there's a family reunion sorry" crap doesn't fly. I really tried to give him the benefit of the doubt while I read the entire transcript. But when it's over and I think about it, it falls apart.Who has long distance relationships like this in 2013? This is the kind of crap that happened in 1994 on IRQ when you were 16 years old. He's a complete idiot or a liar. One of the two. But if he's telling the truth, this girl needs to be found. And if his story is true...I think she still kind of likes him.

MANTI TE'O: Before the car crash, it was -- we were talking. I was talking to her. I was talking to other girls. Just trying to get to know people. I was a college player, just trying to get a feel of who was who.JEREMY SCHAAP: There was a lot of girls.MANTI TE'O: There were a lot of girls. Not a lot. A couple.
JEREMY SCHAAP: Now she's out of the coma and you guys just resume again.MANTI TE'O: Obviously, our relationship has gone to another level where I'm just exclusive to her.JEREMY SCHAAP: Why?MANTI TE'O: Because I wanted to. When she got into an accident, I was like, OK, this is who I want to be with.
He fell in love with a girl in a coma?
:lmao: His story makes me think of the episode of Arrested Development when that hot nurse professes her love for Buster while he is the hospital faking a coma.

He fell in love with a girl in a coma?
fake girlfriend in a coma I know I know it's serious

There were times when I could

Have "murdered" her

(But you know, I would hate

to have to come out)

Do you really think

they'll find out ?

ESPN just continues to eat up info from the Te'o camp and pass it along as if it's the objective truth. Comical.
Let's suppose your perception is accurate. What is ESPN's angle for backing Te'o?
5. According to multiple sources inside the network, ESPN had the story, but was waiting on Te'o for a sit-down interview.

Per the Big Lead, ESPN had the story for ten days.

That would mean that ESPN first got wind of the story before the BCS title game.

Ouch. (FYI, ESPN disputes that they had the story for ten days, saying instead that they had it for seven days).

What I was told is that ESPN wanted to have a sit-down with Te'o so the network could get his side of the story. But if you've got the goods can you really wait on a story like this? Of course not. Credit to Deadspin for doing all of the due diligence on this story and then not waiting too long for a comment.

Many will criticize ESPN in the coming days for not blowing this story up in advance of the BCS title game. And there will be many who ask: Did they slow play the story as a favor to the bigwigs at Notre Dame? I'm told that isn't the case, but I just don't understand how you wait on this story so you can get Manti Te'o on camera. How long does it take to confirm that the girlfriend doesn't exist once you get tipped off on this story? Not long, right? An investigative reporter named Mike Fish is credited on the ESPN story that links to Deadspin. Was he the only guy working on this story at ESPN?

If, as Deadspin has Tweeted, they've only had the story five days, how did it take ESPN twice that long to produce nothing?

Also, for you sports media conspiracy nuts out there, is it more convenient for ESPN if someone else breaks a story like this first?

Yes.

Would it shock me if someone at ESPN tipped off Deadspin because the story was getting slowplayed? As a former Deadspin editor, it wouldn't be the first time that happened, so it wouldn't shock me at all.

So the motive might have been to put money in Te'o's checking account?Between that and the hours spent exchanging quotes from scripture and studying the Bible, it sounds like the "praksters" were getting the #### end of the stick.
If true, from the things I've read Tuiasosopo sounds like football groupie. Not sure what the motive was of the chick allegedly talking to Te'o.

He provides an astonishing amount of details in that interview. And Schaap said he was perfectly composed and believable. So either Te'o is the greatest actor ever, or he's telling the truth. It's just unfortunate that he chose to be interviewed with no cameras and no audio. Most people won't take the time to read that.

I think he's very good at what he does. I loved it when he

Don't like Jeremy. Seems like a total doosh and a punk. Yeah, both! I love that Bobby Knight interview where Knight scolded him like a school kid...told him he was nothing like his father or some ####. :lmao: Could not have given him a bigger insult than that. Jeremy was aghast. Then Knight just gets up and leaves. :lmao: So great.

The investigation ordered by Notre Dame was limited to the electronic search, [spokesman Dennis] Brown said. Investigators did not interview Te'o or his family, nor did anyone attempt to contact Ronaiah Tuiasosopo or any of his relatives. In response to questions, university officials said the investigators did not examine cell phone records, e-mails or other electronic communication to determine the length or extent of Te'o's communication over the past few years with the person claiming to be Lennay Kekua, nor did the university ask Te'o to take a lie detector test.
Good thing they've gotten to the bottom of this!

was hilarious, though.

FLORENCE, Ky. (AP) - A Kentucky-based minor league baseball team is jumping on the Manti Te'o girlfriend hoax story. It is offering a bobblehead giveaway of the girlfriend. Only the boxes will be empty. The Florence Freedom says on its website that the boxes will go to the first 1,000 fans on May 23. They also will rope off a special section just for people to bring imaginary friends. Freedom General Manager Josh Anderson says fans can make the bobblehead out to be whatever they want it to be. Te'o, a Notre Dame football star, said this week he was duped in a bizarre lie involving a fake dead girlfriend. The national media did several stories on how Te'o played through the pain of her death. The Florence Freedom is part of the Independent Frontier League.

I'd actually feel better about myself if Bobby Knight talked down to me. I don't think **** ever spoke to Knight again after that either.

LANCASTER, Calif. — The person cast as the mastermind of the hoax involving Notre Dame’s Manti Te’o may tell his side of the story, a family member said Sunday.Peter Navy Tuiasosopo, uncle of Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, says the family plans to hold a meeting this week to determine when and how his nephew would talk about the bizarre prank.“We want to do it right,” he said, also noting that the family has hired an attorney. He never directly mentioned the hoax or his nephew being involved.Te’o insisted he had no role in the hoax involving his “dead” girlfriend and told ESPN on Friday night that he was duped by a person who has since apologized to him.In an off-camera interview, Te’o identified that person as Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, a 22-year-old acquaintance who lives in California. He said the young man contacted him soon after Deadpsin.com broke the news on Wednesday. The Deadspin story indicated Ronaiah Tuiasosopo was involved, and suggested Te’o was, too.“We’re just a family of faith. The family is holding up well,” Peter Navy Tuiasosopo said. “They’re holding up the way I would expect a family to. This is a storm.”He made the comments after attending a two-hour service at the Oasis Christian Church, where his brother, who is Ronaiah’s father, is pastor.Titus Tuiasosopo, the father, choked up as he thanked people for their prayers.“I’ve been practicing how to say ‘no comment’ in 20 languages,” the pastor told his congregation. The family has not commented publicly since news of the hoax broke.Ronaiah Tuiasosopo wasn’t seen in attendance, and two church members said he was not there.Earlier in the day, ABC news announced that Te’o would do his first television interview with Katie Couric. The interview will air Thursday on Couric’s daytime talk show and Te’o’s parents will be with him. ABC was not releasing details of when the interview would take place or where.

I wish Yandek had first crack at him. Yandek personifies the hard hitting journalist. I can picture watching Teo squirm when Chris asks "First off, how are you?"

Question:You're an NFL GM. With the security dept./resources at your disposal, you can determine with 100% accuracy as to whether Te'o was rubed, or whether he perpetrated the hoax. Aside from fit/football ability, how much would each possibility upgrade/downgrade Te'o in your eyes? For me, if he was in on the scam, I would downgrade a bit. If he was completely rubed, I'd downgrade heavily.

Yeah, this is like a real-world Wonderlic, and being fished that badly would be like scoring an 8.
It'd be like if he was still running after Eddie Lacy from a play action pass two weeks ago.
:lmao: I would not be able to spend a premium pick on him at this point. He's just way too dumb.

Yeah, when I see him he has the same look as my dog when I'm holding a ball and do the fake throw and he turns and starts to run, then turns back and sees that I still have it, then repeat 10x.

Parcells used to argue that not too bright and unquestioning made the perfect player.

Yeah, and the kid's a linebacker, not a QB. Ray Lewis and Brian Urlacher aren't exactly brain scientists.

Instead of going top 10 (crap teams) he looks like he will now slide toward the bottom of the 1st round (better teams). Might help him out in the long run even if it costs him money on his first contract.

Personally, I won't be happy until this kid is so humiliated he kills himself.
No one wants anything bad to happen to him but he brought the ridicule on all himself Bob.
A stupid, naive kid got tricked and was embarrassed about it so he tried to cover it up. Yes, he deserves to be ridiculed nationally.
The ones that are this mad are the ones that really bought into the story and they're hurting. Like a woman scorned.
