Marc Bulger - released (1 Viewer)

I Love Doggies
(KFFL) Jim Thomas, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports the St. Louis Rams have released QB Marc Bulger.

Why release him now? The move would seem to give Bradford and his agent a little more bargaining power.

Would have been nice for Bulger if he got released earlier so he could compete with the likes of Carr and Anderson for a backup job but I guess the Rams wanted to make sure they like Bradford and maybe tried to trade Bulger but no takers.

I still think he could do well in the right situation meaning he's not tee'd off on every play.

You get to negotiate with the first pick before the draft. So you think that the Rams could drive down the price by saying, "We don't have to pick you, we have Marc Bulger."?

Buffalo - Oakland ?
Poor dude was shell shocked; IMO Bulger started throwing off his back foot 75% of the time in StL. I think he's got some football left in him, but he's a reclamation project. While Oakland and Buffalo might be improved situations over StLouis, I don't think either is the answer. He'd be a great fit in Carolina's offense. Strong OL, strong running game, not much pressure.

A while back there was talk of the Jets being inetrested in Bulger as they seek a vertan backup. I don't think anyone is going to hand him a starting spot so that may not be a bad gig for him.

I could see GB as a landing spot as well. They;ve been playing with fire with Matty Flynn behind Rodgers the last coupld of years.

1. He pretty much said no contract before the draft2. Leverage is for when he's holding out into the season. At least the Rams have SOMEONE who can play weeks 1 to whenever he signs

An indication that the Rams are confident they can get a deal done without such leverage?...

If Big Ben gets charged, I see him being a steeler in a New York Minute. He could excel with the Steelers. I could see him do well in Arizona too. Both pretty unlikely.

Oakland, Buffalo? I could only see it being more of the same as here in the Lou.

I gather for your post you think very little of Matt Flynn. While I don't think he's an all pro, the guy has made some great strides through the Packer system. I like the way McCarthy develops QBs, so I have no problem with them having Flynn as the backup. That said, he was the ONLY backup last year. That's not good.

That would actually seem doable. Bulger is a native Pittsburgher. He attended Pittsburgh's Central Catholic High School, as did Dan Marino.

Correct Flynn has done a solid job in the backup role. Outplaying second round pick Brian Brohm out of a job.

Buffalo - Oakland ?
Carolina... I would like him in Arizona but I doubt it would happen.
Carolina ?Maybe as a backup. Matt Moore is the new deal in Carolina. He's got a much better shot at starting in Buffalo or Oakland, imo.
I can see him being less than excited about standing behind Oakland's or Buffalo's offense line, despite his starting prospects.
At this point, I think he would be more excited to land a starting gig as opposed to holding a clipboard as he fades to black into retirement.

What if Bradford pulls an Eli/Elway? What if he gets hurt? What if he pulls a Crabtree? What if another team makes an amazing offer to trade up and take Bradford? All very unlikely scenarios, but when you are talking about a contract sure to be worth 10s of millions of dollars it seems odd to make any move that could weaken your position or limit your options when the draft is only weeks away. Certainly having Bulger on roster is not a threat to Bradford at this point, but it also in no way hurts the Rams position. It just seems an odd time to make such a move unless there's some sort of bonus involved in Bulger's contract or the Rams are extremely confident they will have terms worked out with Bradford.

I agree. I would love to see Green Bay draft a QB in the 4th or 5th round if the right guy is there. You need more than two QBs on a roster.

Is it true that it's also his birthday today and that he and his wife gave birth to their first child???

"Happy birthday and congrats on the kid. You're fired"

I still dont put Arizona out of this equation. THey mentioned bringing into another vet when they signed Anderson and I believe this is the guy they had in their thoughts.

Always liked Bulger.. very professional, even with the crap situation in St. Louis. Hope he gets a chance to start somewhere or at least a backup on a contender, he's earned it.

I just want to know if he went to the ground and curled up in the fetal position when he learned of his release.

Posted over in the ben thread that apparently bulger was already talking to the steelers. Buddy of mine got a text directly from bulger (they roomed in college and are still good friends). Just a rumor but it does make sense with him just being released.

Seems like Bulger might end up in CHI, backing up Cutler, and reunited with Martz.
:sarcasm: Surprised no one else had mentioned this. Seems like the most likely landing place to me.
