Now what should we expect of him. He was a low end TE1 and despite the fact inexperienced QBs like to check down on the TEs I see a downgrade out of the TE1 to a backup TE.
It all depends. TEs like Pettigrew and Witten flourished with backup QBs in there last season. I wouldn't over react until I see how the Jaguars do the first couple weeks. Still start him unless you have a clearly better option on the WW.
I agree. With 5'8" Thomas on the outside as the supposed #1 WR, he is their #1 receiving option especially in the red zone. He will catch a ton of balls IMO.
I have him. I don't see how this possibly represents anything but a downgrade. He was already a top 2 target with a QB who relied upon him and the QB wasn't a gunslinger who could do tons of damage. Now he's got an unknown who hasn't been running with the first team. I think it will be a miracle if he improves on last year's numbers or even duplicates.
wouldn't downgrade. he is in the basketball player type athletic talent/size discussion, good blocker plays a lot of downs, even before he realized his talent he was one of the best in yards per catch. and lewis is by all accounts one of the leaders on the team (named co captain over garrard). just think he'll make due with whatever qb is throwing.
Bigger % of a smaller pie = similar slice. Still borderline TE1/TE2 but a few slots down. Now a solid TE2, but as those stats have played out, a drop from TE#5 (last year in PPR, PPG) to #17 was only 2 PPG. O will score less and will lower his TD #s, but that seemed to be an outlier anyways. I would still put him top 18 and if you don't have a top 5 or so, it's not a big handicap to have a top 10 vs a top 20.
