Is Marion Barber worth keeping? I listened to the Audible on thursday, and Sig said he's a RB2 flex this week. Did I hear right?

I dumped him two weeks ago... tired of waiting for him to do something. The Cowboys will have to get it together for any of their RBs to have much value.

Cowboys rushing TD total should skyrocket soon it's way off IMO
Currently, I have Barber and Choice.I'm hanging on to both for two reasons. They may be piss-poor reasons, but . . . First: I have a strong feeling that once the "pressure" of winning it all is off their shoulders (and Lord knows it should be gone already), and they know that the coach is not coming back, this team will start to play to it's potential. Points will come because the game is fun again, and they know that they now have to impress the next boss.Second: In a dynasty or deep keeper league, there's a good chance two of the current Dallas RBs will be gone. I believe that Barber's contract is up after this season. Choice or Jones will emerge as the top dog here or somewhere else. By owning two parts of this horrible situation this year, with enough RB/Flex depth to carry it to 2011, I may just end up with two startable RBs in 2011.

No, he's not worth a spot.

Cost me a week 1 win, and then I sat him and hung onto him when I could have been more active on the waiver wires. He had one little teaser week where he got a TD on my bench. I decided to hold him while I remained dormant on WW bidding. Finally, it got to the point where Felix is getting 10 catches as the main RB and then the NFL trading deadline passed. His value is no better than a lot of other guys on the wire. He will technically start a game, but Felix soon takes over. He's now a GL back, and that might have value in TD only leagues, but even then, he has just one TD so far.

On top of all that, it just felt good dropping him. He had "name value" I thought. I couldn't drop Marion the Barbarian could I? Well he I found that he was occupying a spot and handicapping my team since I never had any inclination of starting him. I dropped him for Derrick Ward who is on bye. Could have been a bye week kicker. I just had my fill of Barber.

Never again.

from RTS news popup:

Dallas Cowboys RB Marion Barber III has converted all nine of the chances he has received when carrying the ball on third or fourth down and needing less than two yards for a first down, according to Charean Williams, of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

I thought he was doing well in short yardage, but that's not many tough carries per game when you think it through-still, this is yet another way Wade makes me scratch my head and wonder. If you have a back capable of converting at a high rate (100% clearly too high to expect but still...) why not keep giving it to him in those spots? I've often thought Garrett tries to be too cute with his offense and it could be on him and not Wade.

I keep reading about Parcells lately. It's an odd amount for a coach that hasn't been there in years. I think those thoughts are popping into the writers heads because they are getting ready to discuss Wade's departure and all the wrongs he's done along the way. I don't see how the team has been coached well under Wade. I'd give Steven or Jerry credit for building a team, but they still have the same issues they had with Parcells and have even added new ones. Zero progress in coaching.

This is like the 10k time I've thought, is it so wrong to have learned from BP? Let Marion put the team on his back, then go from there with the offense. Saints recently are a good example and not coincidentally they are coached by the Boys former OC. The Boys are always looking for a big play and forget the impact some good tough runs can have.

Depends on how your league size and settings align with the league size/settings of the people dispensing the advice. I work on the assumption that advice applies to a 12 team PPR league unless otherwise stated. He's on waivers in the 10 team league I play in and no one is exactly fighting over him.Dallas is obviously in trouble this year and I predict that if "panic" sets in, they will do what most teams do - go to their "happy place". In the case of the Cowboys, that's "pass, pass and pass some more". If a handful of carries, yards, a couple receptions and the occasional punch-in TD is worth keeping on your team, then keep him.

He was dropped before Week 6 in my 12-team PPR league with tight rosters. Nobody bid on him this week. I added Donald Brown instead because I think his upside (perhaps only for the short term) is much higher. I'm not seeing any upside with Barber right now. I think he's running hard but he's not getting goal-line looks because the Cowboys aren't getting in that range, his ceiling for carries appears to be about 10 with Jones dominating the touches and prior to this past week he hasn't been utilized consistently in the passing game. I think he has some value because Jones has yet to show he can stay healthy for an entire season and if he does get hurt again than Barber's value will rise, So if I was adding him, it would be because I was a Jones owner and wanted the handcuff or I did not trust Jones to stay healthy or there wasn't a RB with any upside left on the WW.

Actually, Parcells didn't think Barber could carry the team on his back. He viewed him as a closer only. And Parcells was right, Barber is not a guy who can carry the load. The Cowboys tried it, and now Jones is basically starting with Barber back to a closer role. They just haven't had much of a lead in the 4th to use Barber much.

When Parcells was there they were shifting from Julius to Barber. Parcells relied on the running game and now it's an afterthought and the horrible rushing TD number isn't surprising because of it. I believe there's a whole mindset that is just good football in showing a determination to run as well.

Relying on the running game would be a good thing. But you are way off if you think Parcells was shifting to make Barber the starter over Julius Jones. Barber had 138 carries the first year, 135 the second, and Parcells always viewed him as a part time RB. Julius Jones carries actually increased the second year Barber was there as the closer. It was Phillips who thought Barber could be the full time RB, and Jerry Jones who heard fans saying how much better Barber would be than Julius Jones. Thinking Parcells was behind or even involved in the shift from Jones to Barber is revisionist history.

Barber has a bit more value than Brandon Jacobs at this point. He's not going to have that 20 point game, yet should be a solid bet for 6-12 points on a weekly basis, regardless of any scoring format that doesn't reward for rushing attempts.

The Cowboys need to do better in the red zone, and Barber has been excellent in short yardage situations so far this year. The TDs will come rolling in soon, starting Monday.

I try not to make a lot of moves in-season, so I still own the worthless donkey. (10-team redraft/PPR) He is first on my cut list if something comes up. Thankfully, I had Clinton Portis to get rid of earlier.

Crap, I tell you.
