Marion Barber's role to increase (1 Viewer)

Found this blurb on the hotwire and thought it worth noting. Is it conceivable that Dallas will look to move Jones or will they remain a rbbc team with Barber grabbing all the short yardage TD's, again. Anyway, here's the blurb, and sorry if its a Honda.

Cowboys | Barber III's role will continue to increase

According to Jean-Jacques Taylor, of the Dallas Morning News, reporting for the Sporting News, reports Dallas Cowboys RB Marion Barber III's role will to continue to increase in 2007 after scoring 15 touchdowns, 13 on the ground, and becoming a fan favorite with his physical, slashing style.

I think with the way he performed last year, this was a given.

I honestly believe in a ppr that if he does get more carries he could be in the top 10-12 RBs easily. I can't see the Cowboys moving Jones (what could they get for him?) but I love Barber for next season anyway.

RB M. Barber's Role Likely To Increase

Jean-Jacques Taylor, Dallas Morning News, Sporting News - [Full Article]

Look for RB Marion Barber's role to continue to increase in 2007 after scoring 15 touchdowns, 13 via the ground. He is fast becoming a fan favorite with his physical, slashing style, but Barber was at his best near the goal line. He has terrific hands, which is why the Cowboys made him their third-down back, and he is also a superior blocker. He should see a bigger role in the offense.

Just wanted to point that out

If Jean-Jacques is saying it, it must be true.
Well, he nailed the trifecta in last year's Iditarod, so don't dismiss him out of hand, eh?
I guess with a name like that, I'd be more inclined to believe his word on Mike Modano or Marty Turco.

I heard on one of the Sirius NFL shows that the Cowboy offense will be featuring a FB this year. And that Julius Jones runs better behind a FB.

I owned MBIII in a number of spots in 06', but still think they are trying to get JJ going as an explosive everydown back. JMO

Barber is immensely talented. To see his role increased should not be much of a surprise.
I agree, but with Juius Jones in the picture, I just don't see how his role can expand that much more than last year. Of course, Jones was a Parcells guy so I don't know how that plays into the picture. As for the post about which wire I use....I feel great shame. I forgot about the FBG news blogger, but hereby vow to use it instead of the KFFL hotwire I usually jump to for daily info.

So who gets drafted first next summer? Jones or Barber? I have both in a 3 player keeper league (ppr) and I am leaning towards keeping Barber.

All four teams in the final four last season ran full RBBC. I don't think there's a question w/Jones and Barber both still under their reasonable rookie contracts they keep them both and run it again this year. I can see the difference in carries shrinking, but I can also see Jones getting used more in the passing game and getting some goalline opportunities. Parcells was pretty strict (read: predictable) in his RBBC, whereas I don't know what to expect from Garrett, but I see it more along the lines of attempting more Sean Paytonesque innovation. Of course, Tony Sparano, who coordinated the running game, is still there and will allegedly be a big part of game planning. That whole thing seems to be set up to train wreck. You've got the annointed one in Garrett as OC, but he's never game planned to this extent getting helped by a guy from the old regime who didn't get the OC job being asked to assist, all reporting to a new HC who was hired last out of all of them and is just there to take over the defense and keep the seat warm with his previous experience, while your glory-hound owner stalks the sidelines. Then you've still got Terrell Owens there in the mix to help make sure things go smoothly. Washing a few Vicadin down with a bottle of Everclear and then going down to a construction site to operate some heavy machinery seems like it could turn out better.

Of course, Jones was a Parcells guy
Barber was a Parcells guy too.
Agreed, however Jones was a guy who Parcells targeted to be the franchise RB, even trading down and bypassed guys like Stephen Jackson, Perry, KJ and Tatum to get him, so Parcells' team-building strategy is closely associated with Jones, and certainly more so than Barber who seems to have been taken more as a BPA type of pick.

I admit I was wrong about Barber last year.My only question is:Was it talent or opportunity?
I do not know how to answer this question other than to say he had fewer touches per game in 2006 than 2005 and produced more with those touches.

:goodposting: Dude was amazing at getting 3 extra yards after contact. What a grinder.

Hmmm... to buy low, to hold, or to sell on this news. MBIII remains one of the more difficult players to value in a dynasty format, IMHO.

Barber's stats last year between the 15 yard line and the goal line ranks as the 8th most productive in the last 5 years. The only people who scored more points from the 15 on in in that time are named Priest, Larry, Shaun, and LT2. I suspect if "buy low" is an option, that's the one I'd take. While he may or may not get more work, to think that Wade Phillips and Jason Garrett are going to disregard the fact that he is clearly very productive near the goal line seems a little silly.

Buy low...good luck with that. Even with the RBBC uncertainty in DAL, MB3 is one of the more sought-after players in my dynasty league.

And yet he remains locked in a RBBC with JJ, is now auditioning with a brand new coaching staff, with a completely unknown future role. As a Gopher fan I've always known this guy is underrated from a talent perspetive.

sib, I'd be interested in specifics if you have them. I have received zero inquiries for him in my own league. Feel free to PM if this is a hijack.

Here's a few offers I've gotten for MB3 straight up (dynasty league, standard scoring + PPR)I give up MB3 for 2k7 1.4 draft pickI give up MB3 for Philip RiversMore common is him being included in package deal proposals:I give up MB3 and LM for the 2k7 1.2 draft pickI give up MB3 and TO for Gore/HoushI didn't do any of these deals. I have some pretty good players on my dynasty squad (R Bush, Maroney, L Johnson), but the guy who draws the most interest is MB3. I think a lot of folks want to get him at a fairly low cost while he is still in RBBC. I'm not ready to part with him just yet :excited:

If LM is Laurence Maroney, then 3 of those trade offers seem like dogs to me. Gore/Housh was an interesting offer, certainly the best of the bunch.
