Mark Ingram (3 Viewers)

-2.9 points, lowest non-QB/non-DST score I've ever had in 20 years of playing fantasy football.

I just hope Hightower will be there when the waiver wire runs on Wednesday.

Mark Ingram rushed three times for -9 yards in New Orleans' Week 8 win over the Seahawks, getting benched after losing a fumble.
Ingram's cough up — which wasn't particularly egregious — came at the 7:53 mark of the first quarter. He wasn't heard from again, banished to the bench where he collected dust as the Saints rode an ineffective Tim Hightower. Hightower got more work than Ingram could ever dream of. After the game, coach Sean Payton said he thought Ingram would "bounce back," but the Saints clearly have zero faith in their lead runner. It's been demonstrated over and over again this season. Ingram has a dream Week 8 matchup in the 49ers, but can't be trusted as more than a mid-range RB2
.Sean Payton is so disingenuous.

Forgetting just about our own fantasy needs, this clearly must suck for Ingram. Imagine he's feeling pretty slighted for seeing the usage of other backs, fumble or no fumble.

Feel bad as he definitely has talent, and made the bad choice to stay with NO when he clearly would have been utilized better on pretty much any other team.

Ingram made a mind-numbing decision to stay in NO. I couldn't believe it at the time, and it looks even worse now. Maybe they'll trade him.

Unreal.

He's so much better than hightower.   surely if he's still on the team after the trade deadline he's still the rb 1 but who knows with these clowns

Are we the ones that are missing something here? The treatment of Ingram seems to odd. Maybe there's something we're all missing!?!?!?

I honestly can't believe what we're witnessing.

Just going to note that Hightower had 5 carries inside the 3 yard line today, plus he was the intended receiver on a pass.  He converted 0 of those into a TD.

Looking at Ingram's play-by-play for the year, he has 2 carries inside the 3 yard line.  For the entire year.  He converted 1 of those into a TD.

Tim Hightower rushed 26 times for 102 yards in New Orleans' Week 8 win over the Seahawks.
The Saints benched Mark Ingram for fumbling midway through the first quarter, and Hightower took over as a three-down player gifted a workload 2016 Ingram could only dream of. Of course, Hightower was extremely ineffective, getting stymied for no gain on five different goal-line touches. Four were carries, one a reception. Hightower is a plodding veteran who doesn't get more than what's blocked. It was a mistake for the Saints to ride him instead of Ingram. Coach Sean Payton said he expected Ingram to "bounce back" for Week 9, but Hightower will be on the RB3 radar against the 49ers' pathetic run defense.
Mindblowing.

Well that's one way to send a msg about fumbling.  what's the next move if he fumbles again?  cut him from the team?  maybe ingram should go ahead and do that

Also it seemed liked all season they avoided giving Ingram any GL carries. Against a dominant Seattle DL, they repeatedly fed Hightower at the GL.

Maybe Ingram is a malcontent and butts his head with the coaching staff ...i mean what else could it be ...looks like Payton is just slapping him down and showing him whos boss

That very well may be true but if they don't trust Ingram and he doesn't get along with them then just trade him.  I know that's wishful thinking in FFL but maybe it'll happen...or they release him in the offseason.

Used to think talk like this was more like PTTS whining, but I've watched Ingram in every game this year, and it's not like he's running poorly. He truly is being underused (even in a pass-first offense) and it's not like the other guys are much better. It's just that they are getting the opportunities that Ingram is not.

Haven't seen anything like this since Al Davis vs Marcus Allen. Allen was in Al's doghouse, and claimed to not really know why. Most claim it was simply because he held out of camp, but Davis's only response on the matter was: “I’m not going to tell you. It’s a deeper story than you even dream, that I was well aware of. I just have a certain approach to life.”

This thing Payton has with Ingram has to be as dark, cryptic, and inexplicable as this. There is no other reason for this criminal misuse.

Ingram's contract wasn't that rich -- 4 years, $16M with $7.6M (including a $3.6M sign bonus) guaranteed. Base salary of $1M/$3M/$3M/$4M per year. A few sprinkled extra bonuses too -- $100K/year workout bonus per year, $500K eligible bonus in 2017 and 2018, etc.

Arguably NO did pay Ingram what was required to get him to stay, but based on talent they may have gotten a bargain. His total guarantee and overall average is around backup guys like Bilal Powell or past prime backs like Frank Gore. Not a Heisman-winning Pro Bowler in his prime.

Speaking of Pro-Bowls, Ingram has an termination clause in his contract he could trigger in the 4th year of his contract if he makes the Pro Bowl twice over the first three years. Ingram made the Pro Bowl last year.

Wonder if part of this hate is Payton playing out a front-office game of limiting Ingram so he can't make the Pro Bowl and so they can wring out one more year at value.

Maybe a little  :tinfoilhat: , I know. But it is one plausible motive for an otherwise mystifying misuse of Ingram's talent.

If the Saints had lost, someone could justly point a finger saying shoulda, coulda, woulda. But now he's the smartest guy in the room and has no reason to change his actions. No GM or owner is going to second guess a coach benching his three million dollar investment considering the W is what counts.

Probably more than a little to this. Saints are within striking distance of the Falcons and in the thick of the Wild Card

It's Payton and Brees' team until at least one is gone. Running game is secondary to the pass. Screw up running, find the pine, screw up passing....pass some more to make up for it.

I'd have loved to hear Ingram after the game but have seen nothing. Sure wish they'd have lost. Can't believe Hightower got that many carries. Wonder how many other games the Saints would've won if they'd have ridden Ingram like that and not been so pass-happy. Wonder if Payton will be nice enough to let me know which back to start next week.

Why doesn't some reporter ask Payton why they gave hightower more run this game than ingram has gotten in any game this season?  love to hear his answer

What an abomination. It's not like it was an egregious fumble (I just finally saw it), nor was his last fumble bad - he wasn't carrying the ball like a loaf of bread. In fact, he was protecting the ball like crazy while fighting for extra yards. Generally that type of effort is applauded in the NFL. Sometimes you've got to tip your cap the defender.

I'm thinking Ingram will be back next week as the starting RB. At least this clarified his handcuff. Hightower was pretty mediocre out there. It's ridiculous that the Saints finally had a 20+ carry running back this year and it wasn't their :censored:  starter.

Some of the worst coaching in the NFL.

Because he would get banned?

Maybe, juuuuuuust Maybe Payton is holding him back to motivate him for next week because he knows Ingram going to run even harder now???????? (Or maybe I'm just reaching for straws to find an explanation???)

if you read the comments from all the saints Homers, it sounds like they expect Payton to start ingram vs sf for what that's worth
Of course, he'll START Ingram.  Just like he STARTED Ingram this week.

Will he run him 26 times like he did Hightower?  Nope.

Will he vulture him in the red zone like he's done all season?  You bet.

Will he bench him again should Mark so much as look at him cross-eyed?  Damn straight.

Think Ingram starts next week, but who knows what happens during the game. Hightower was used like Ingram should have been used all season. I just don't understand Payton at all.
