Mark Ingram (9 Viewers)

Ingram has no one to blame but himself for this... he didn't even test the market when he was a FA -- he resigned before FA opened with NO.  Get what you deserve in that case.

I bet he doesn't make the same mistake again.

I haven't paid too much attention, but have there ever been stories or rumors of Ingram being a malcontent? Is there a personality/behavior issue with him?

 
I have heard nothing of Ingram being a malcontent and he seems to say the right things.

I should have known better than to draft him.  I will join the chorus of why a talented rb would resign with new orleans is beyond me.  Also put me in the camp of Peyton has to go...he is a terrible coach

I heard a rumor that he was being investigated for being involved with some kind of gambling ring.  I don't believe that, but I have seen people posting about it on several new Orleans fan sites

 
In *theory* they've always been a committee -- Ingram and Cadet and Hightower all saw snaps in the past (and Lasco and Pierre Thomas before him and such).  They've always been a committee -- the question is whether Ingram sees 15-20 touches at the head of the committee.  Idk anymore.

To be fair to those that drafted him, the last 2 years Ingram was the most consistent fantasy back around. This year they have decided to stop using him in the passing game, stop giving him RZ carries and now stop giving any carries. This was not the case the last 2 years and was unpredictable.

I own him in dynasty and while has been consistent I would say that consistency has been pretty much at his floor.  He has never gotten the carries he deserves, he has never gotten the tds he deserves and he has never gotten the respect he deserves....

so yes from a fantasy perspective he hasn't been bad but he could/should be dominant

 
Peyton isn't a terrible coach. They just beat a quality team in Seattle and he has a ring. He just doesn't care to run the football and why would he? They have a sick QB and great young WR's. Ingram should have left if he wanted to be the focal point on a team, because as long as Brees and Peyton are there he will always be an afterthought.  We all know that when we draft Ingram in re-draft leagues.

 
I had always been a staunch hater of Ingram. Last year he really won me over though. He was great catching the ball out of the backfield, ran hard and looked like a real good player. It seemed like a can't miss. A powerful RB that catches passes on a super high scoring offense. Even though they are prone to mixing in other players, the consistency was there to be low end RB1.

I agree that anyone drafting him expecting David Johnson numbers was dreaming. However, for standard, Ingram had averaged 12.7 and 12.8 the last 2 years. Last year his worst game was 74 yards. Sure his best game was only 148 and a TD. He wasn't explosive, but he was really steady. It's nice to have a balance of explosive players and consistent players.

It is but i struggled last year with his consistency.  You need big games from you big names to really put yourself over the top.  In my redraft league this year he went at the end of the first.  That's a disastrous pick even with his numbers from last year.

That is a bad pick. He was a late 2nd/early 3rd in my leagues which would have been ok (if he had played like last year). He seemed like the safe pick.

You guys can all blame me. I drafted Ingram 2.10 in one league & targeted him in a trade that brought me Mike Evans in my other as my RB2 behind David Johnson - by buying up that share of Ingram, I effectively jinxed him for everyone. There's just no way I could possibly have 1 player on 2 teams and have them not be a bust. 

The fantasy football gods have smited me thus, and you are all paying the price for my insolence. And so it was written, and so it goes. :(

Hightower averages 64 touches per fumble whereas Ingram averages 123 per fumble. How does this constitute having a shared backfield?? Peyton is a total ### face.

Hell, Payton would sooner run onto the field and give himself a goal-line touch than give it to Mark.

I was always confused why Payton hates Ingram so much to the extent of  punishing him for the slightest mistake his entire career in NO.  Not to mention, when he has had great games, he gets pulled in the most inopportune times? I remember a few years back, Ingram was extremely displeased on the play calling where he was concerned, and many game scrips seemed to be focused around him if he did well, to pull him. Again, why did they sign him to that new contract??

Speaking Monday, Saints coach Sean Payton said Mark Ingram will still have a "key" role in the team's backfield going forward.
Payton's comments came as he was explaining that Tim Hightower has earned more work. Payton also claimed the team wasn't planning to bench Ingram for the entirety of Sunday's game after his lost fumble, but that Hightower was running too well to go away from. That didn't appear to be true if you were watching the game, but to each his own. It's hard to say who will be in the touch lead for this week's golden matchup with the 49ers. Ingram still has more upside, but Hightower is probably the floor play.

I get the feeling Payton didn't want him back but the GM did. Since then Payton has always just done stuff to get back at Ingram. Pulling him at the GL is the main thing that sticks out to me. He should have had double the TD's last year but Payton pulling him constantly.

No one cares about your fantasy team.  As a Saints fan, I'm quite happy with Payton.   Loomis is the one that needs to go.

 
Man how I wish Ingram would go all rouge over this and start lashing out it's hard to be a diva RB in the NFL if you are not real elite. Still I'd like someone to at least ask him how he feels about this situation and/or how he feels about comments from Payton saying he thinks he will "rebound'.

I took a look at salary/cap ramifications of trading him. One big negative is unfortunately he redid his contract in March and converted his salary into a signing bonus so trading him carries a bigger cap hit than it would have before. On the other hand he's counts about $11 million against the cap in 17-18 so if they are truly don't have a bigger role for him than playing "key" role in tandem with or maybe playing less than Hightower they might as well eat the cap cost already if they can find a buyer. Better to eat the cap charge now and not pay $11 mill over two years for a RB you don't appreciate. Do I think this will happen? Nope, because you don't devalue trade pieces the way Payton just did.

That doesn't explain why 2015 he was being used more regularly than any other season.

Signed Spiller who was hurt/sucked and Khiry was dinged up early before breaking his leg so kind of forced Paytons hand and even than he never saw 20 carries in game like Hightower did twice later that year.

Does Payton have no say whatsoever in those moves?  I'm honestly asking since he does seem like he gets a say in the organization or at least the perception is of that but maybe I'm way off.

He got his one superbowl.  besides that, which is awesome, they have been garbage.  same crap def every year, won't ever win one again with payton.  I will call it.

I think Payton created that thought by how little regard he seems to have for some key FA signing but I don't buy it one bit.

Loomis is either directly working off Payton's shopping list or at a minimum I don't think there is a one single FA signing or draft pick that  is made before Payton is consulted and signed off on, with notable exception when he as sent away for a year.

 
There is no way Loomis is doing all of the FA signing with no input from Payton. I saw this same sort of conversation on Falcons boards regarding Dimitroff. People wanted him gone while others said he was just shopping from the Mike Smith grocery list. I will admit you never really know who is doing what, but all I know is Dimitroff's last two drafts have been fantastic with Dan Quinn as coach.
