It's really interesting to think about where the Cubbies were just 4 years ago now. Wood had already been under the knife, but he could still really deal, and Prior, my god he looked like the Seaver or Clemens of this generation to me. Now we have this mind boggling ideal of "exploratory surgery"(the idea that this is the last resort of stud pitcher to have a doctor hope and poke around his shoulder is insane to me) and Wood is still on the DL. Does this fall back on Dusty's workload or are these guys just not up to it. Who else has Dusty blown out in the past? Billy Swift and Salomon Torres come to mind, Russ Ortiz maybe? Carlos Zambrano has looked a little worse for wear too.

Dusty gets a lot of the blame and its probably somewhat unjustified.

From what I've read and heard, Kerry Wood is a mental midget and never took a bit of advice he was given at the professional level. His mentality was that he got there doing things a certain way and wasn't about to change. That led to poor mechanics and poor mechanics lead to injuries. Wood also had a history of being overused in High School if I remember correctly so it's not all Dusty

I have no idea what's going on with Prior. He was going to be ther next Tom Seaver. It's what I thought the first time I saw footage of him from USC. Its very possible that he just doesn't trust his body anymore because of the fluke injuries. Some guys just don't make it back from those type of things mentally.

We'll be putting him in the what if thread one of these days. He was destined for greatness.

fragile, the Dusty blew them out argument is BS. pitchers just don't blow out because they threw 120 pitches in a few games.
