(WGR 550) - The Bills were missing pivotal players on both sides of the ball during Wednesday's practice at the Field House.
Marshawn Lynch was absent from practice as he continues his recovery from an ankle sprain, while Donte Whitner observed practice after suffering a head injury against the Patriots. Angelo Crowell (foot), Terrence McGee (achilles) and Jerametrius Butler (calf) were all limited in practice.
Bills head coach **** Jauron said that Lynch is still very sore, but that the running back wanted to take the field against New England, and feels ready for Jacksonville, even though Jauron said he isn't overly optimistic Lynch will play.
"He still thinks he's should've played last week, but he's just real sore," Jauron said of Lynch. "It's the typical high ankle, and we're not particularly optimistic about this week."
Whitner said the team has not used the word "concussion," and wasn't concerned about the injury's affecting his availability for Sunday's game in Jacksonville, even though Jauron said Whitner had some problems remembering parts of the New England game after his head was injured.
The majority of Media Day conversations centered around the upcoming game against the Jaguars, and it's crucial nature in the team's quest for the post-season. Starting quarterback J.P. Losman said rebounding from the Patriots game has been different than a normal loss.
"I can't speak for everyone else, but for me it's been tough," Losman said of making sense of the New England blow-out. "We were going well for a while, but we ran into a brick wall, pretty hard, pretty fast. Once I started watching game film against Jacksonville Monday night, things started moving away."
Losman said being named starter for another week hasn't taken his mind away from his lack of stability as the team's starting quarterback.
"It always is, especially this position," Losman said. "It's about winning and taking teams to the playoffs. We have a chance to make some thing happen, but until they do, it's up for grabs."
Jauron said he "certainly doesn't see" the Jacksonville game as Losman's last chance to establish himself as the Bills starter. The quarterback was asked whether he feels he's on a short leash.
"I've been feeling that way for quite some time, but it's not affecting my play," Losman said. "That's just something you have to get over as a player."
