Martz storms out . . . (1 Viewer)

Well it's Detroit. What should we expect? I've been saying that the reason this team is sooo bad is because it starts at the top. Bad owner hires bad GM. Bad GM hires bad staff. Bad GM hires bad coach. All that means is that no one wants to be there or play for them.

From the article:

From the day he was hired, Marinelli's approach has been one of intensity, but with patience, too. The only promise he makes is that the Detroit Lions will be a better team, more fundamentally sound, smarter and better conditioned. Martz, on the other hand, walks through the halls of the practice facility and -- this is true - says things like "Touchdown, Lions. Touchdown, Lions" and "Line 'em up and let's go for two (points)."
Keep this loon away from sharp objects. :loco:

Martz has no patience and zero tolerance. If he's not happy, then everybody around him is not happy.'

:lmao:

What an alias you could create within these parameters...

Or the other way to look at the story...

First sword fight. Marinelli won and stood his ground on some unknown item. Martz lost; took his toys and came back the next day to play.

The boundaries of the working relationship and leadership are formally tested in a live environment. An expectation Marinelli set forth in the initial interview, which was how the dynamic between himself and Martz would exist, is tested and upheld.

If anything, Marinelli did something in that moment of truth to help begin to change the mindset of the franchise. He is the right personality type to begin to fill the obvious leadership gap in Detroit's front offices and on their sidelines.

Good job, first time headcoach. Marinelli did not budge nor did he put up with Martz's BS. When having leadership and or management authority over someone that is your senior and highly regarded in the industry, standing firm ground, as Marinelli did, is not as easy as it would appear.

I just wanted to edit and add this is assuming the issue was between OC and HC. Now, if this was an instance of Martz banging on Millen for his lack of ability, then I give him a free pass.

Great article. Don't know why people see this as a bad thing since over the last couple years what we have heard out of the Lions organization is that players don't know the fundamentals, no one is teaching them to run routes correctly, lack discipline, etc. Both Marinelli and Martz are sticklers for these things, yeah they have different approaches but they are both going to bust some ### to ensure that players know what they are doing and work their tails off.

Some of the best coaching staffs I've known (high school) really got after each other behind closed doors.

If I'm a Lions fan, I'm lovin' this. If these two guys can coexist, the Lions are going to become super competitive over the next two years. The difficulty appears to come from "timetable expectations", with Marinelli having patience to get the job done right and Martz having none - to get the job done right now!

Gotta love the Lion bashing. This is a non-issue.

I, for one, am hoping this is the staff that finally brings back some respectability to the franchise. Enthusiasm is tempered though as time will ultimately tell. Sometimes it's just tough sticking with your team when there are so many other bandwagons to jump on. :lmao: We'll see how many fans the Lions have when they start winning.

Really? I'm no defender of Millen, but if the issue of Millen's questionable competence as GM is news to Martz, then he (Martz) a bigger idiot than I thought he was and he shouldn't have taken the job (only a couple of months ago) to begin with. Based upon what we've seen of Martz's ego with the Rams, I think this was a power play by a guy who - only a couple of months into a job as what amounts to a consultant - has far too little power within that organization to play that game. That's why he came crawling back.

I'm not sure that a two-headed monster arguing with itself is a good form of competition or the way to establish leadership in an organization that desperately needs it.

To me it seems that cracks are already starting in the foundation of the Lion coaching ranks. Now with another franchise that would be no big deal because of the fact that the organization has been succesful.

Now if this continues into the season and they start losing games, (as they always find a way to do) the ####e is going to hit the fan.

Bad luck creates more bad luck and in order to overcome that EVERYTHING has to run smoothly for a set period of time.

PS: How about Millens whining about the Dolphins loosing the 2007 6th round draft pick for Harrington, now they will get nothing for him. Hahahaha

So far that is two marks aginst the Lions this year and training camp hs not even started.

Apparently ...it makes people in Detroit really angry to even talk about scoring points.

"Shhhhhh, don't even think about scoring...we're the Lions."
