Marvel Cinematic Universe - Fantastic Four - No Homework Required (1 Viewer)

I think I just don’t care anymore.
Was feeling some burnout as well. After GotG3 was encouraged and hoping Ms Marvel is as fun as it looks. If that keeps going I may be back to excited.
Will probably still watch, not sure it will be the event for my daughter and I it has been.

Infiniti war and endgame were the apex. Never getting back to that
They were amazing accomplishments in the genre, so this is likely accurate. It's not easy to maintain a level of greatness for a sustained period in any artistic field really.
Right. Very easily arguable as the best movies in the genre (better than DK IMO). Even arguable up there with the Godfather, G2 and Shawshank as the best ever regardless of genre.

So yeah, not living up to the best of all time isn’t shocking.

Agreed.
What is shocking is not having any avengers movies since endgame. And only a handful of decent marvel movies over the last few years. They have lost my interest due to their lack of direction and production

The lack of full blown avengers movies is intentional and there are a couple on the schedule.
I’ve enjoyed most of the movies enough, but my expectations are fairly low.

Intentional and dumb. You don't go 5 years without another movie after the impact they just made

Disney Dates New ‘Star Wars’ Movie, Shifts ‘Deadpool 3’ and Entire Marvel Slate, Delays ‘Avatar’ Sequels Through 2031

Other changes include a massive Marvel reshuffling. “Captain America: Brave New World” is moving from May 3, 2024, to July 26, 2024, which in turn is delaying “Thunderbolts” to Dec. 20, 2024, “Blade” to Feb. 14, 2025, and “Fantastic Four” to May 2, 2025. “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” is getting pushed back an entire year, from May 2, 2025, to May 1, 2026. It’s taking the place of “Avengers: Secret Wars,” which is jumping from May 1, 2026, to May 7, 2027.
I think this has a lot to do with the writers' strike. But with the trouble surrounding Jonathan Majors who knows what will end up happening. It at least seems plausible to me that the actor could be replaced with a simple "Kang looked different in that timeline". I am excited about the upcoming Secret Invasion.

Watched ep 1 of Secret Invasion. As with most of the MCU D+ shows I am curious to see where it goes. Definitely a spy thriller feel to it, as expected. A lot to unpack and see who's playing who in the spy game. Was enough for me to watch the next episode without calling it great.

Definitely hated Maria Hill being shot and left for dead at the end of the ep. Hoping its a misdirect as the fans seem to think

Which of the current phase movies that I have yet to see will be ruined by this show?

The Marvels :scared:

Actually after 1 ep, hard to say any of them. Outside of the characters involved and some references to the blip/Thanos, not a lot of tie ins yet. If you've seen the post credit scene from Spider-Man Far From Home, you are probably caught up.

Solid. Just really hope the last scene is different than it appears. Won’t spoil but that’s a thing that would almost ruin the show and more for me.
I will say the hits have less emotional impact with the multiverse.

Do I need to see the new Ant man first?

Would Captain Marvel be the movie to rewatch if I wanted to get caught up on exactly where things were left off with Fury?

No, at least not for ep 1

i have never understood how people can get mad at movies being made if you want a bigger space between movies the solution is pretty simple just dont watch them for a while as for me bring them all on i love these things take that to the bank brohans

many of us are having superhero fatigue.
If they could control the urge to exploit morons with ADD who salivate like Pavlovian dogs at bright shiny objects and just hold off for one or two every few years then it would fine.
The problem is the excremental glut of these things being ****out like turds every F-ing week is nauseating.

The Hollywood Genre Cycle: Commercial cinema fads and how they arise

I like the current amount of content, they just need to improve their writing a little.

Agreed. They’ve already cut back a bit.

Not that it will fix the mess of the multi verse story but it looks like MCU may have caught a break today as there was an important twist in the Jonathan Majors domestic abuse case. It looks like the police have collected enough evidence to arrest the woman who claimed the abuse.

This does not get Majors off the hook yet but it certainly muddies the waters quite a bit for him getting convicted.

4 eps of Secret Wars and I am enjoying some parts but hating others. Decent spy thriller. Some good action at times. A lot of time in between though.

I hate that Rhoady is a Skrull and that they killed off Maria Hill. I do not expect Talos to die after being left for dead this week, but it also wouldn't surprise me and I will hate it if he dies. Not sure how I feel with the Skrulls adding extremis (from IM3) and Groot to their DNA but it is an interesting way to increase their powers

It says a lot that this is the best news Disney has received in a while. It's amazing how effectively they've managed to destroy the companies/IP they acquired. Pixar (2006), Marvel (2009) and Lucasfilm (2012). Sure, they each did ok for a while post-acquisition, but I'd put that down to sheer momentum and that the pieces for those successes were already in place.

They didn't get any of these properties on the cheap. I believe that if anyone did a full accounting of the return on these investments they'd show a big red number. Amazing.

The decisions they've made on what to do with the IP they had - both in terms of what they did to characters from movies released before the acquisition and on what IP to use going forward - have been nothing short of financial malpractice.

Red in Hollywood accounting? Sure. But no way have they lost money in any way. Pixar was purchased for $7B.Frozen and Frozen 2 alone had $2.6B gross at the box office. The merchandise sold is at least 5 times that. Pixar movies total since purchase are at like $14B gross. And again, merchandise sales have to be through the roof.

Disney bought the rights to Marvel for $4B. As of 2019, Disney had made $18B at the box office from Marvel movies. And again, probably $$$$$ off all the merchandise as well.

Star Wars is a little less clear. They’ve probably netted a $1.6B profit on the movies versus their $4B purchase of Star Wars. BUT, they could be raking it in on merchandise. Nobody really knows what profit they make on merchandising, but one article I found said that they had $5-7B in merchandise sales in each of the years of movie releases.

All 3 of these have made multiple very good and profitable movies and shows.

Destroyed Marvel? You have to be kidding, honestly. They’ve made an absolute killing with that purchase and have catapulted it into the biggest movie brand in the world. Saying they’ve destroyed marvel just isn’t living in reality at all.

All this just to get Carol Danvers and other superhero's DNA?

1 ep to go so I am curious where it goes. I am enjoying it despite some moments to dislike.

Decent ending to the series and sets up Fury for The Marvels.

Connects the series to Captain Marvel, GotG, EndGame....
No spoiler, but while I was entertained I was disappointed overall. A couple of the more significant things don’t bode well imo for the future of the MCU.

I quit watching halfway through secret invasion and I was also quite disappointed with GOTG3.

I do not think I will finish watching secret invasion, instead I just read the wikipedia entry, that is good enough.

The interactions between characters are not always consistent with what that characters personality is, nor do they always make sense anymore. I can make believe that humans can have super powers, fly, etc. What bugs me is that the high evolutionary, the greatest geneticist in the marvel universe and one of the smartest people in the marvel universe could create planets, can created thousands of different species, however could not fix his face?

He should have never been beaten by a rocket without rockets gadgets to begin with, but that is fine sometimes you have to let lesser people beat greater people in the comic book universe, however we do face transplants on earth. They have magic packs that you can throw on deadly wounds that immedietly cure you in GOTG3, but one of the smartest people alive can't fix his face?

The second major problem was near the end of the movie when they are flying their spaceships at high evolutionary's spaceship. I do not remember which of the spaceships offhand but one of the main character's spaceship's windshield was broken, either rocket's or Quill's. However they were fine and did not suffer any of the damage from being exposed to space. However obviously at the end of the movie when quill was in space he almost died.

There were more of these, but I am going to end my comic book guy rant here.

Lets bring on deadpool! I still have some hope there.

I liked the idea of Secret Invasion, but I thought the finale was very underwhelming and the show just wasn't that good. Gaia with those powers -- what do you do with that in the future? Just felt like there could have been more to this series, but it just didn't deliver.

It did feel like it was reintroducing some characters to get ready for future films. And I am glad she got the powers instead of Fury, but yeah it does set up some questions with her.

I thought Secret Invasion was a good enough D+ show. It moved the needle in a worse direction in regards to the whole "human/super" climate. I'd have to believe that the ramifications for that will be displayed more predominately when/if the MCU brings in the idea of mutants.

I do think that they have dones themselves a diservice in regards to the glacial pace in which they are moving towards The Kang Dynasty. They haven't really done a great job in regards to giving us an underlying/secondary story that would springboard into the Kang Dynasty.

I keep expecting the next movie or show to start moving in that direction or integrating the characters introduced into the bigger arc.
For instance Ant-Man bringing in the rings from Shang-Chi and the Bangle from Ms Marvel. But no, it seems we keep getting more stand alone items with a cameo from someone else that doesn't seem to be more than a hey remember me type thing.

That looks like the Marvels, right? I don't know that I will ever watch Ms. Marvel or She-Hulk.

Ms Marvel seemed to target teen girls though (my daughter enjoyed which may be why I did). She-Hulk was just fun (and bringing in Daredevil was great). I enjoyed them both. Doubt I am going to rewatch them though.

Not sure if Ms Marvel's backstory is needed for The Marvels movie or the future of the MCU outside a couple details (her Bengal and being a mutant). Guess we will see how the movie goes.

Yup. Dr. Strange was good enough, and better on a second viewing, but it didn't live up to the rumors/hype....nor did it really push the story. Same with Ant-Man; even though (a?) Kang was introduced. If they had cliffhangered that with Scott being trapped in the Quantam Realm with Kang, thus depriving the MCU of an experienced leader to stop the Kang Invasion...I would have liked that. But as it is, there's no REAL movement on Scot Lang's character/role in the MCU.

They're also getting to the point, even with me...where I'm like "Should I know that guy?" when someone pops on the screen. I THINK the guy who helped Fury in E5 was in Black Widow....but I'm not sure.

Ant-Man as the "experienced leader" would be great.
