Marvel Cinematic Universe - Fantastic Four - No Homework Required (2 Viewers)

I'm wondering if I saw the same Thor movie that others saw.  I thought it was good.
Saw it last weekend and wife and I both thought it was hilarious and thoroughly enjoyed it.   Calling it a ‘silly’ movie was a good characterization though, but it was a nice counterpoint to how serious and dark MoM was. Leave it to these boards to thoroughly ruin a good tv show thread or movie thread as usual though.

I didn't watch Ms. Marvel -- do I need to?

I still need to get around to Dr. Strange 2.

We liked episode 1 of She Hulk? I was going to skip this one too due to the previews.

My daughter and I enjoyed Ms Marvel. There is a credit scene in the finale that links it to future movies. Do you need to? Guess it depends on your level of Marvel interest. Then again I am watching everything they put out!!

The "I Am Groot" shorts were fun. And short. I think the credits were longer than the actual episode.

My impression is that Marvel is on a really bad run. Several of the recent movies and shows are at best "OK" or "fun" or "not bad" or maybe setting up something better in the future but really not compelling entertainment as we've seen in the past from Marvel. I got about 15 minutes into Ms. Marvel before tapping out - fully admit that's unfair of me to judge it on that basis but just no interest. Dr. Strange 2 was OK maybe? Cool effects, but nothing of interest to me going on in that and not sure where it leaves us in terms of any overall story line. The best I can say about She-Hulk is it might be kind of fun for younger kids to watch maybe? A straight up comedy (like several others recently) but also breaking the 4th wall? Admitting this is totally just my own odd opinion, but I'm not on board with anything recently. The Egyptian MoonGuy thing was probably the best Marvel show of the past year for me, and that was pretty uninspiring as well.

It feels like they are trying to regroup after the huge ending to the Infinity Saga while also growing the D+ offerings and its causing it to be a little disjointed with all the new characters. Not easy trying to build a new roster to move forward with. Also a lot of burn out after 22 films. Borderline hassle trying to keep up with it....

I am hoping there becomes a little more focus and continuity as they end Phase 4 and get into phase 5. Black Panther 2 looks amazing in the trailer.

MoonKnight to me was one of the lesser D+ offerings actually.

I agree with @CletiusMaximus, I’ve been pretty underwhelmed so far. The movies have been meh and some of the D+ stuff has been almost bad. FATWS was cringe trying to make the girl terrorist redeemable after she murdered a bunch of people. Moonknight was disappointing because the previews had a The Batman feel to them and the rest of the show was nothing like it. Loved Loki and Wanda (wasn’t a fan of Dr Strange 2), but this wave is really disjointed and I feel like I’ll watch the stuff that I hear is great and wait for the rest to hit D+.

I watched all of Ms Marvel and She Hulk’s first episode. Clearly some girl power going on, but I was pleasantly surprised. Maybe low expectations but definitely feel worse when you really look forward to a show that greatly disappoints.

They need to keep Disney plus separate from the movies. Not sure it’s a coincidence that the movies are inferior at the same time Disney is trying to get rolling.

We’ve mildly enjoyed she hulk so far. It’s not spectacular but all I’m hoping for from most of these series is a fun watch. This hits that mark but doesn’t exceed it.
I do agree that the quality has suffered a bit. I’ve seen most of the first three phase movies repeatedly but have no desire to rewatch any of the last few shows. Thor is worse upon reflection than I thought at the time, MoM was good but disappointing for what was my most anticipated project.

I can't help but think marvel movies and shows have been played out. Not enthusiastic about future or ongoing endeavors.

Thor was eh, almost feel asleep, MoM was forgettable, while shang chi and eternals we're abysmal

Yeah, we haven’t bothered yet with Moon Knight, MoM, Thor, Ms. Marvel, or She Hulk. Just burned out I guess. All of this seems almost like a drawn-out epilogue after Endgame. And I am having trouble buying into the consequence-free time travel/multiverse dynamic.

Agree on Shang Chi, from all the reviews I thought it was going to be spectacular and I was really underwhelmed. If it wasn’t a Marvel movie, I might have been OK with it but the dragon stuff and the secret place were pretty cheesy. I enjoyed the family drama like the fight club/gang stuff (IIRC) way more than that secret place. Either way, it certainly wasn’t one of the best Marvel movies like it was portrayed.

It’s funny because I don’t even mind She Hulk because I was expecting the worst. Some funny parts and if the do the self-deprecating humor well, it should be fine.

MoM and Moonknight were the most disappointing in those because you’re expecting the best. Moonknight had ads making me think it was sort of a Dark Knight/The Batman type of vibe and outside of the scenes in the previews, it never got close. MoM was just a mess and the new character was beyond forgettable. Most of you don’t frequent the Invisibles thread where you have to guess the movie from an image with any body part photoshopped out. I had just watched MoM and her character was in one and I had no clue, so forgettable.

I am just apathetic to Marvel now. Moonknight was alright. I watched first episodes of She Hulk and Ms Marvel and neither were worth watching more. Thor is my favorite Marvel character but I didn’t even go watch it in the theater. I’ll watch it on D+ this week since I’m off work. Sad but I guess all good things come to an end.

It’s just too much. They turned the spigot on and now can’t turn it off. Disney did a smart thing somewhat slowing Star Wars down to a once a year thing — marvel has a new show on as soon as one ends. And it’s all just mediocre characters nobody has heard of. Moon Knight? She-Hulk? Come on who cares.

Plus with there being no stakes with the multiverse makes it even worse. Endgame was the perfect conclusion but of course the money game has to roll on.

I seem to be one of the few that liked Multiverse of Madness a lot - but I get the sentiment that this Phase overall has been subpar. Only Spiderman and Dr. Strange have been "great". Thor was tremendously disappointing if you wanted anything more than a straight comedy despite the acting of Bale and a few cool scenes.

I do think Phase 5 will pick up once the Kang storyline gets underway and we start getting the Fantastic 4 and Dr. Doom involved (and maybe the X-Men).

Wakanda Forever looks very good and that will end Phase 4. I'm excited about Namor and the rumors of Dr. Doom being in it.

Most of the recent shows have been disappointing for sure and they probably are extending the universe of characters that are introduced too far. She Hulk is actually pretty funny and I think will pick up action-wise soon. They should try and stick with the heavy hitters, because no one really cares about Ms. Marvel or Moon Knight or even She Hulk.

I don't get all the MoM hate, it was a good show, also the eternals hate has gone too far. We don't want every movie to follow the same formula and it took risks. We should welcome risk taking when these people make movies or else it will get old fast.

I’m fairness, when this whole thing started, nobody had heard of Iron Man or Black Panther or Ant Man or Dr Strange either.

I have read ~2 decades of marvel comics(~88-2008), Iron Man was certainly a b lister, but Dr Strange was fairly popular in the comics, Ant Man was popular but was mostly before my time reading comics. Black Panther was kind of in between.

SheHulk was a member of the Avengers in the 80's, and was mostly before my time of reading comics as well.

I think the shows will get better once they introduce mutants fully. I think a standalone show featuring Gambit, Emma Frost, or Jubillee could be done quite well. There are many others, but those are the ones I would pick first.

Gambit could be either the best movie of them all (other than Deadpool) or an epic disappointment.

The Eternals pretty much sucked. I don't want the same formula, but something that makes any kind of sense would be nice.

We are enjoying She Hulk. Body-ody-ody-ody-ody-ody-ody-ody
I really don’t understand why they didn’t make eternals into a show. Focus on one character per episode, bring in some of the others as relevant, and the last two shows the ending. Granted, maybe 12 episodes is a lot but it could have been done really well.

If only the Eternals was stretched out even longer!!!!

j/k I get your point.

Watched the first half hour or so of Thor and I’ll finish but damn have they changed all their writers and directors? Thor is a complete parody of a character. Loved Ragnarok and it had a ton of comedy in it but this feels different. We’ll see how it goes but man first Strange 2 and now this and I’m not feeling good about the next phase. I can understand Shang Chi and the Eternals falling a bit flat and a lot flat with all the new characters especially with them being around at the same time, but a new Strange and a new Thor which so far are bottom tier compared to the others. Didn’t think Dark Elves would ever not be the worst Thor, but still have a lot of movie left so we’ll see.

I'm liking She-Hulk. It's the tv series which best represents a standard issue comic series imo. I'm sure there will be some key touchstones to the broader MCU and Phase 4 to Phase 5 storylines, but so far it's mostly a well done story of the week type show. It's funny, just the right length, and has a great balance between action and character interactions imo. So far so good.

I watched Dr. Strange MoM last night. I thought it was pretty good.

Lots of new trailers for D+ shows released. What exactly is secret invasion?

I also saw that the Marvels picks up directly after the credit scene on Ms. Marvel. So do I need to watch that show?

In the comics, basically it’sa story where shape shifting aliens take over many heroes and infiltrate earth. I expected more of a buildup, unless it’s been happening without much reference to it. You know how Hill and Fury were skrulls in Far from home? It’s like that but on a large scale.
I think the show will be entertaining but I don’t expect them to stick to the comic storyline unless we see where various characters have been gone. That doesn’t seem to be the case right now. But they did get it started in captain marvel. I’d expect the marvels movie to be tied in.

Finally watched Thor and gotta say the whole thing felt like a parody of a Thor movie. Wtf happened to the MCU?
Going the complete Three Stooges route was a terrible idea, especially with such a dark villain played by an incredible actor in Bale.
Russell Crowe was an embarrassment and that lightening bolt looked very “Disney”.

Now She-Hulk is pretty funny but it was designed to be a light hearted sitcom. Thor should have left out 80% of the humor and it would have worked far better. With that said, it was pretty funny at least.

Surprised at the Werewolf By Night series I just saw a trailer for. Had no idea it was even in the works. The trailer looks like an ode to the old monster movies - hopefully it works in the final form.

Really enjoyed Love and Thunder. I was primed by a ton of beer and weed cleaning my garage so that probably helped.
