Marvel Cinematic Universe - Fantastic Four - No Homework Required (2 Viewers)

Also finally watched Ironheart. I enjoyed it although I did not like the ending
Didn't like her saying yes to Mephisto, kind of ruined her whole arc for me. Thought she would have learned by then

Liked the connection to the larger universe and the name dropping which some of the D+ shows don't seem to have.

Went to F4 with the wife last night and we both really enjoyed it. I probably more than her, but she was entertained and could relate to the mother/son aspects.

I  Vanessa Kirby as Sue. She also nailed it as Princess Margaret in the Crown. She is the rare combination of being a great actress and being stunningly beautiful.

One question I have that was still lingering (and I half expected to get at least a glimpse of):
How and why do the Fantastic Four end up in the future as per the mid-credits scene in Thunderbolts?!?

Was expecting that too.

Guessing that will be a large part of Avengers Doomsday along with the mid credit scene in FF

if memory serves, the after the credit scene in Thunderbolts was set 14 months after the movie, so lining it up with Doomsday makes some sense timing wise, especially given that

Earth 828 seems likely to produce the Dr Doom into the sacred time line

There is also Spiderman 4 before Doomsday. There may be an mid/end credit scene there as well that will tie to Doomsday but I don't know what.

Like most others who have replied, I really liked Fantastic Four. The setting was awesome and all of the actors were top notch in their role. I love Pedro but was a little hesitant for him in that role, but he really pulled it off. Julia Garner didn't have much to work with, but I firmly believe she will be back with more to do in the future. The biggest obstacle they removed for a lot of people is that "no homework is required". You could go in without any knowledge of any previous Marvel movie and know exactly whats going on. Overall I think I gave it an A-, the pace was a little slow in the middle, but that's just nitpicky. I really liked it.

What were the two books shown in the first credit scene?
The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle
The Origin of Species by Charles Darwin (suggested by H.E.R.B.I.E. but declined by Sue)
A Fly Went By by Mike McClintock (the book Sue picks up for Franklin)

Saw FF today and enjoyed it quite a bit. It dragged in parts when Galactus wasn't present or an immediate threat.

I think Franklin's powers will be used by Doom as a surrogate for the Beyonder's powers in Secret Wars.
The books mean something just not sure what yet - will wait for an uber fan to post on reddit or somewhere

Whoa this blew my mind. Didn’t connect the two. Yea she was super in the crown. Everybody was basically.

Did you miss the one with the Cat? or was that shown later?

Solid movie. Like anything else, if you go in looking to have a bad time you will. Haters gonna hate.

But it's a straight story, well paced, and not preachy. I had a blast. Like Superman earlier, this is like opening a comic book.

Loved that the name of the ship was the Excelsior.

I don't know about that other book. I didn't remember any of the books, just asked Gemini.

Re the FF mid credit scene from Thunderbolts

For those unfamiliar Tbolts has a credits scene of the FF ship approaching their earth
Feige threw cold water on it by saying that ship looks different than the FF ship in the new movie
Word has leaked that characters from prior versions of the FF are in the next 2 Avengers movies
Surprisingly the FF director said that Tbolt scene was never shared with him prior to completion of filming

So the MCU plans to continue to screw things up and misunderstand their audience?

I think something is significantly off here.

In Marvels awesome cast reveal for Doomsday, all the FF First Step actors were shown.

It's not the future - it's just a different Earth in the Multi-verse.

Yes, but Marvel also doesn't always show older/alternate characters. Think how they kept Toby and Garfield secret for the longest time. Sometimes it's what you don't see instead of what you do see, you see?

I understand what you are saying but they have already invested so much into the current FF cast and already made them a part of the Doomsday cast announcement that they are certainly going to be a big part of Doomsday IMO.

Any other FF versions that show up, if they show up, would likely only be the briefest of cameos.

I thought the movie was awesome and so much fun. It was different in that there were some "slow" parts, but those parts helped build up the feeling of family and the chemistry within the group.

I think the Thing was underused but I guess his strength doesn't really help much in a battle against an opponent like Galactus.

The last set of FF movies made Sue an afterthought almost and really downplayed her powers. I like that in this one we see she is by far the most powerful member of the team.

The first one at least seemed to spend more time on the "I have no clothes because I'm not invisible anymore" jokes then her character for sure. And the most recent focused more on her intelligence then her powers.

This one you got all sides, power/mother/intelligence.

SHE SAVED THEM ALL INBETWEEN CONTRACTIONS WHILE GIVING BIRTH!

Did they ever call the thing the thing in the movie? Just thought of that. Maybe in the cartoon they showed?
No, they didn't - and apparently it was by design:

Fantastic Four: First Steps Makes A Big Change to the Characters (But Marvel Fans Hardly Noticed)

One of the most striking and, arguably, most overlooked aspects of Fantastic Four: First Steps is the deliberate absence of superhero codenames. Throughout the entire film, Reed Richards is never called Mister Fantastic, Sue Storm is not referred to as the Invisible Woman, and Johnny Storm is simply Johnny, never the Human Torch. This creative choice is not merely a writing or directorial oversight; it’s a deliberate and foundational element that underpins the film’s thematic depth. By consistently referring to the characters by their given names, the movie emphasizes their humanity above their extraordinary abilities. They are scientists, siblings, and friends first and foremost, grappling with the unprecedented pressure of being Earth’s protectors. This deliberate choice becomes even more significant when it comes to Ben Grimm.

The film meticulously avoids ever calling Ben Grimm “The Thing.” This isn’t a casual omission; it’s a conscious, powerful decision that aims to reshape perceptions of the character, both in-universe and for the audience.

Casting news for Spiderman Brand New Day. Looks like an after the credits scene from 8 years ago is finally coming to fruition

=====================

I can't open it, what does it say?
It was an image.

In the image it lists:

Tom Holland: Spiderman
Zendaya: Michelle Jones
Sadie Sink
Michael Mando: Scorpion
Mark Ruffalo: Hulk
John Bernthal: The Punisher
Jacob Batalon: Ned Leeds
Liza Colon-Zayas

Thanks.

Saw a rumor based on some of the comic story lines that I hope comes true with Spidey, Hulk and Punisher all involved.

Mr Negative is the big bad, and he manages to turn Prof Hulk back into Savage Hulk. That leads to him fighting Spider-Man, Punisher, and Daredevil. IF DD is in this to I am so ready for it. Also gets Savage Hulk back for Doomsday and Secret Wars....

It may not mean anything in the end, but Ruffalo was not part of the massive Doomsday cast announcement. The Russo's have stated they are doing everything possible to limit any spoilers so I think maybe some surprise character or 2 may still emerge when the movie drops that was not announced.

It is probably not a coincidence that no characters from Spiderman Brand New Day were part of the Doomsday announcement. There may be an event that happens in Spidy 4, that keeps them out of Doomsday.

"It is probably not a coincidence that no characters from Spiderman Brand New Day were part of the Doomsday announcement. There may be an event that happens in Spidy 4, that keeps them out of Doomsday" - I could see that. Might just set up their involvement in Secret Wars.

Saw F4 today. My expectations were apparently a little too high based on the very positive reviews I’ve seen, but it was solid. It and Thunderbolts were solid singles in an era where Marvel is striking out a ton and just needs to get runners on base.

Just saw it today. I thought they nailed the family aspect, the MCM thematic aspect of it and the idea of them being heroes who are also celebrities. Thought the casting was great too. My only gripes were:
A) it felt a little slow and didn't really have much meat in the action department. To that....
B) I would have loved to see more of Mole Man. Thought he stole the scenes he was in and showing that battle and the aftermath would have given the actor a little more time to pop.
C) I know the post credits scenes are an MCU calling card and I do like them....but I need some more substance to them; particularly that last one. Give me the flavor one mid-credits and then the story advancer as the post credit. These two should have been flipped in their order.

All in all a very good MCU movie that's right up there with the best of the standalone origin movies.

If I have one nitpick it's the voice of Ben Grimm. Was way too subdued and quiet and did not match at all the boisterous and yet also brooding voice I would have expected from the comic character.

I kind of liked how chill he was. Thought that was a good twist on the character.

So I watched Thunderbolts last night and I wanted to not like it but I thought it was ok, however, I didn't feel like it deserved all the super positive that I saw on review sites. I did chuckle a few times but the humor got a little repetitive and I didn't always laugh. It may have not helped that I didn't know who several of the characters were so I didn't care about them but that's on me for not staying up to date with my Marvel stuff. I did like "Bob" and I thought he was a good quasi villain when he was "sentry". I saw shades of homelander so I thought it was a good performance/well written but I didn't really like the "boss" fight all that much.

I think there not being a really recognizable character to the MCU movie watchers hurt it a bit; being that most of them came from television shows or the Black Widow movie.
