Marvel Cinematic Universe - Loved Thunderbolts*! - Also Marvel Trivia May 5th at 9 EST on FootballGuys (5 Viewers)

I have no prior knowledge at all on Moon Knight. None.

Liking it so far.  The Marvel universe is just so much better on earth. All the space stuff is fun but the ground level stuff has almost always been better.

So far so good for me on Moon Night. Oscar Isaac is great. Those judging him based on Star Wars is misplaced IMHO. Those films were flawed.

Moon Knight is well acted but too weird thus far for me to say I’m really enjoying it. I’ll probably stick with it though.

The Egyptian gods thing is just weird to me so far. Zeus and Thor are gods but completely different than the Egyptian gods. I don’t see how they coexist in the same universe.

Something about this actor just doesnt do it for me.  Didnt work in Star Wars.. want to say something else he completely ruined as well.
Wow to each their own but I think Oscar Isaac has been fantastic in this.  First episode was slow and laying the groundwork.  It's also helpful if you are familiar with Moon Knight so I can understand those who aren't enamored yet.  I think it will end up being good but not WandaVision, Loki, or even Hawkeye level.  I do think it can reach Winter Soldier level.  It is already way, way beyond Iron Fist IMO.

I think that may be a problem for people who are struggling. Egyptian gods are not even in the sam ballpark of well known as Zeus and Thor. Norse and Greek/Roman gods have been littered in our literature and movies/TV. Most people into Marvel know Thor, Odin, Zeus, Athena, Mars, etc. I had never even heard of Khonsu before this show.

This show isn't just the worst MCU effort (Venom and Capt. Marvel set a low bar).... it is bad on any scale. I mean like where you watch Arrow or Iron Fist with the understanding it isn't gonna be  great and you can still enjoy it.  I went into tonight expecting awful and I got worse.. way worse.

I set the bar as low as I could and it still fell short.

Just an hour long repetition of saying WTF, wtf, Wtf, wTf, wtF to myself.  By the end my 13 year old is on his phone paying zero attention.  He is a HUGE comic fan, knows everything about MK.

Seriously?  It isn't hard to follow at all.

We like it.

Oh I follow.  It is just poorly done.  WTF as in the acting, the story.

Among the 1000 wtf-worthy scenes was the trial.  The gods apparently dont have smart phones and are unable to simply google Arthur and his cult/gang.  To the rescue comes a cringeworthy mental illness routine... instead of suggesting something useful.  Like google.

After 2 episodes of Moon Knight, I am completely

Started to clear up a little near the end of the episode but still weird.
I dont understand whats so confusing about it. The guy has multiple personalities. One of them is a dweeb, the other one is a mercenary. The mercenary agreed to be an avatar for an Egyptian God.

Hence the "Started to clear up a little near the end of the episode but still weird. "

Not sure I am enjoying it as much as the other shows though.

Pretty sure we don't stop at 2 based on the last episode.

Knew nothing about MK going in, other than people say he's Marvel's version of Batman (I thought that was DD but whatever).  The acting is top notch, especially Oscar Isaac.  I like his English dweeb accent too, not sure why people had a problem with it.

This last episode was a bit slow, but I'm really enjoying this so far.  I also read a rumor/speculation about Ethan Hawke's character Harrow that has me excited.  Even if it doesn't turn out to be true, though, very much enjoying this.  It's a back to basics super hero comic story and so far so good.

Yeah, I wondered about that, too.  They can't just look at the active crime scene over there?  They don't know where Ethan Hawke came from?  I'm thinking ist graders would have them by the short and curlies.

Didn't they say something about they no longer care to or want to interact with humans?

Overall I think it is pretty good, although I definitely agree the trial scene logically didn't play out.  They did say they weren't going to interact with humans, which gave me an Eternals vibe. I think Oscar has been really good and like others mentioned I think we'll see an expansion of his ability to showcase DID.

BTW I've never understood the Batman - MoonKnight comparisons.  They are both billionaires in the comics, and visually they look similar except the black - white contrast.  MoonKnight's suit gives him way greater superpowers than Batman's tech, hence why he could be stabbed through his body with multiple poles without an issue. I've never seen MK be a great detective in the comics either, so I don't think it is a great comparison.

Kind of enjoying MoonKnight -- it's not bad so far, not quite sold on it. Wife bailed after the 2nd episode, think she's just sick of Gods this, Gods that. After the last one I threw on an episode from the first season of Daredevil and DD is several orders of magnitude better IMO.

Thor + Taika Waititi! Especially welcome news for those of us (mostly just me, as far as I can tell) who believe that Ragnorak is by far the greatest Marvel movie to date and may be the best superhero flick ever.
I love Ragnarok.  I’ve watched it more than any other Marvel movie.  Although I really like Infinity War…1A and 1B for me.

The trial scene was just dumb and made no sense.  He never even laid out a case.  Just random yelling.  Unbelievable even for a comic book show. That said the show is solid.  Know nothing of MK so took 2 episodes to figure it out.  Not Iron Fist level; better than FaWS IMO.

IIRC the comparisons were based on the late 80s early 90s run of MK where he didn't have DID or it wasn't depicted in the comics very well. Was a billionaire who sort of had powers but they were pretty minimal.

So do we think the events in MoonKnight will lead into Thor?  Based on the villan and other reported appearances it seems to connect.

This might have been my favorite episode, I dug where they ended up at, has a Legion vibe and I thought that show was amazing.

That was throughly confusing. I love it.

Does have a certain Kings cross station meets Clockworks Psychiatric Hospital vibe going for it.

I have no clue what is going on, but I do know they’ve hinted at his third personality a couple of times now.

-at one point in an earlier episode Mark takes over the body and there are dead bodies and he says something like “Stephen, what did you do?” And Stephen says “I didn’t do this Mark.”

-in the latest episode, after Stephen comes out of the rattling sarcophagus they later run by a room with another rattling sarcophagus.

Funny, I agree with the first sentence but had the polar opposite reaction. At this point I’m only going to finish the season because I’m a completionist.

I agree, I thought the series was only alright up to this point, but the ending to the last episode  . I hope they lean into the crazy.

Before the series started I remember reading that the first four episodes may seem erratic but the last two episodes is the playoff that ties everything together and will blow everyone away.

After how Wandavision slow played and ended up being so good (IMO) with how it tied things together, I’m definitely inclined to give these Marvel shows more patience than I would most shows.

It’s crazy to me that these are so short. I’ve been rewatching the Netflix shows which are over twice as many episodes each.

Finally watched the latest Spiderman.

Yeah it was really good and a ton of fun with all the past characters in it. Garfield was the best part and I didn't even love his movies.

And Moon Knight is....fun. I really hope they do a dark side of marvel and lean into horror and darker themes more.

Also finally got around to NWH.  Especially liked Dafoe tossing out the "something of a scientist" line.

Are we spoiler-safe at this point? I have a question about the end-state that I haven't seen discussed in here.

I finally watched Spider-Man as well.  I thought it was good, but not as great as everyone was making it out to be.  I never saw any of the Garfield Spider-Man movies, and I agree that he was really good in this.  I might go watch those now actually.

I believe we are generally spoiler free after like a week. Go for it.

So this MCU Phase is all about Multi-Verse (Loki, Spidey, Strange); Gods/Antiquity (Eternals, Moon Knight, Thor) with Kang as the new big bad it seems.

How is this all going to play together and how do Blade and Black Knight fit?

Caught up on Moon Knight over the weekend (watched the first ep right away but then got busy)

I like the general premise. Its well acted. I like Isaac a lot. The action is generally fine.

But it isn't QUITE doing it for me. Found myself checking my phone a lot, which is generally the sign that I'm not that into it.

Maybe its my own fault for binging 3 eps in a row. I'm certainly in for the rest of the run but its not blowing my socks off.
